VIBE:
If you're looking for ambiance, you won't get it here- this is a hole in the wall mom and pop shop. BUT, oftentimes restaurants with ambiance have expensive and not-that-great food. Come here if you're actually looking for tasty food. The decor was very cute with hand drawn paintings on the wall and I especially over the crawfish cartoon on the menu. The owners (or the chefs I think?) came out and said hi to us.
COVID:
Social distancing and mask wearing was observed. Our host /server was possibly the friendliest, easygoing person I've ever met.
FOOD:
I ordered jambalaya and the husband crawfish etouffee; there was a bit of a wait, so they gave us some free hushpuppies which is like fried cornbread-that was wonderful and generous of them. Shortly after, our food arrived; my jambalaya was like delicious comfort food. Then I took a bite of my husband's etoufee and I was angry that I didn't order that! We also got boudin balls which were a bit gamey but that is how they are supposed to be. In the end i liked everything. Would come back again, and I would like to try their pies sometime.
This restaurant is great. I had the gumbo, catfish poboy, boudin balls, and crawfish bread. My wife has the crawfish etouffee.
The gumbo put mine to shame, the catfish on my poboy was cooked to perfection and not hard and over fried. The crawfish bread was amazing and will probably be better tomorrow morning for breakfast.
This was by far our favorite, and most authentic cajun food experience we’ve ever had. If you are looking for the best, look no further. We only got one picture of our food, we ate everything so fast we didn’t have time to take pictures of anything else! The etouffe was fantastic, so tender and mouth watering. The fresh bread was crunchy and fluffy. Highly recommend the boudin balls, great seasoning and flavors. Will definitely return!
Chef Aaron Hegger is as authentic as they come!!! Talk about being passionate about what you do!!! Can’t believe I just found this place. Homemade bread, amazing crawfish etouffee AND shrimp po-boy! Chef Hegger definitely knows how to bring the taste of New Orleans to ATX!! Cannot wait to go back
We had the po-boy sandwich and gumbo
Bread was freshly made lots of yummy meat and shrimp
Big bowl of gumbo, food was delicious
Just make sure you give yourself plenty of time, it’s a bit wait and pricey for lunch
We each had two large gumbo and large sandwiches it was $60
Will definitely come back but next time I’ll take a small sandwich
Amazing food! Better than pappadeauxs gumbo and etouffee! Wow! Yes, this is what they call a “hole in the wall” a great find indeed! a place on a strip that isn’t a part of a chain restaurant! The staff is friendly, personable, and welcoming! Everything is homemade and worth it!
The prices are great! (I would raise the prices though the food is damn good I feel as though I’m stealing)
Take the time to come on by! Throw on some shorts and a t-shirt and enjoy some homemade cooking I will be back!
Great customer service to start. The crawfish pie was amazing and very filling. The shrimp poboy was also very good. Both were fresh as well. Will definitely come back when I'm in Austin
Omg! This place is THEE Truth! The gumbo, redbeans and rice... are so delicious! And the Po' boy!!!! I've never had one so good! I'm going to be a regular here.
What a great family ran restaurant! The taste of New Orleans is all in details of the food, which is seasoned to perfection. They work so well together and they REALLY take care of the customers!! The pies are ridiculously yummy. We're going back, soon!
Great spot for some REAL cajun food... if your tired of all the rest, go and get the best! Highly recommend! Best roux this side of the Missippi.
