Shake Shack Chestnut Hill

02/11/16 -- When Shake Shack in Chestnut Hill first opened in early 2013 there was a line around the block to get in and there was no way I would wait in line for a fast food burger. Fast forward to now and there is no line so it was time to see what all the fuzz was about.
I went for the single Shack Burger ($5.29). "Cheeseburger with tomato, lettuce and ShackSauce". It was delivered in a little paper bag and looked good. I appreciate that the bun wasn't sliced all the way through, makes it easier to keep the stuff in place, The bun was nice as was the veggies but the patty was really thin but cooked nicely even if it was well done. I must admit that between the nicely melted cheese and the sauce, the taste of the burger was non-existent. I think it was seasoned nicely since I could taste some salt and pepper. I also went for the fries ($2.99) and it was Crinkle Cut Idaho fries that was cooked really well with a nice light crust on the outside and a fluffy inside but they were just crinkly fries and did not impress. They tasted potatoey and was OK.

Located in the area’s new shopping center called “The Street” it is a quick 25 minute drive from downtown Boston.

Shake Shack is known for their burgers, milkshakes, and frozen custard but also serve hot dogs, fries, beer, wine, and even snacks for your dog! If you are only there for a cold treat such as a shake or custard you can hop in what is called the “C-Line” and get what you want in just minutes!

To the right of the registers you can find a floor to ceiling menu wall including their “Custard Calendar” which displays the featured flavors for each month. Check out their website for the current Custard Calendar flavors.

All of the tables at the Chestnut Hill location was handcrafted in Brooklyn, NY using wood which was once the surface of a bowling lane.

I got the “SmokeShack” burger. This is a cheeseburger topped with applewood smoked bacon, a chopped cherry pepper, and ShackSauce which is a combination of mayo, ketchup, mustard, dill pickles, garlic powder, paprika and cayenne pepper.

I’m not a huge burger fan so I don't order them regularly but I liked how they don’t cut the bun all the way through so the contents of the burger don’t fall out. I also liked the kick from the cherry peppers.

The cheese fries were by far the stand out of the meal for me. Crinkle cut Yukon potatoes topped with cheddar and American cheese? YES PLEASE.

Last but not least, the frozen custard. Shake Shack has a few combinations that they dreamt up and they are listed on the menu under “Concretes”. You can also mix and match to make your own.

I tried the “Shack Attack” which is chocolate custard, fudge sauce, chocolate truffle cookie dough and Mast Brothers Shake Shack dark chocolate chunks and topped with chocolate sprinkles. I am so happy I got a half portion of this because it was very rich and I was already very full from my burger.

I love dark chocolate but this was a little too dark and unsweetened for me. Next time I think I want to try a regular old milk shake or make my own with chocolate and peanut butter.

I had never been to a Shake Shack in New York so I think it was definitely worth the trip out to Chestnut Hill!

Last Monday James had the day off from work and forgot to eat lunch. So Aida decided to treat him to a burger at the newly opened, much talked about Shake Shack in Chestnut Hill. We went on a Monday at around 3pm, there was no line and plenty of open tables. However, we have driven by it when the line is out the door and wrapped around the corner....needless to say we go lucky! We loved the predominately wood decor. As far as "fast food" places go, Shake Shack was rather good!  Now, we have a few fast burger joints around the Boston area, such as UBurger. As far as the quality of the food Shake Shack rose to the top of the list. Their burger meat did not have that processed, yucky  taste most fast food meats have, which is good considering we try to avoid fast food, especially those with drive-throughs, at all costs. The order, sit down, wait for buzzer to ring, pick up food, sit down, eat system makes it feel more like casual dinning and less like an actual fast food joint.  James ord

I get shake shack often in the NYC/NJ area and it's great to know I can get this exceptional of a burger with great consistency anywhere there is a shake shack. The double smoke is my go to. Kids liked hot dog, chicken bites and milkshake. Tried the new Buffalo chicken sandwich which was good but a little small. But these burgers are so much better than any other chain you could pick from.

One of my new favorite burgers. Easily top 5! The shakes are absolutely out of this world too!! The spiced cheesy fries are an ingenious addition too! You can't go wrong with this place.

First time at a Shake Shack. The food was great. Loved the burgers. The fries were good, but I thought the portion on the fries was quite small. The shakes were fabulous. The dining room was a bit chaotic. A few empty tables, but nothing wiped down. Would absolutely visit another one.
