Didnt intend to eat here but I'm really glad I did! It was casual, cheap, quick, and the food was surprisingly good for a greasy spoon. Being from Canada, I try and get biscuits and gravy whenever I'm down South and they had a Benny served with gravy instead of hollandaise; brilliant! The sweet tea was nice and cold and the atmosphere was perfect for me, just having walked in wearing a t-shirt and shorts, looking for some food to start my day of exploring Charleston.
Great food, low cost, excellent service. Our server was funny and quick, and helped with pointing out where a local landmark could be found.
A great lunch. I should start by saying we stopped in close to 2 after doing a walking tour and I had missed breakfast, so by that time pretty much anything would have tasted good. My sandwich certainly tasted very good and I believe I’d have the same opinion even on a more normal visit. I had asked our server what was the most popular sandwich and without any hesitation he said The Sutter. This turkey, bacon and Swiss toasted sandwich with lettuce and tomatoes was just what I needed, reasonably large, delicious, and with their housemade coleslaw a great lunch.
My wife had something called a She-Crab Soup, of which I had a nice sample. It was good with lots of little pieces of crab. She really liked it, I was glad I had the more substantial sandwich.
Our service was welcoming and friendly. My wife even got a sample of the soup to try before she ordered it, and that was an appreciated out of the box solution to her struggle to decide what to order.
The 50’s décor was pretty non-descript, just some photos on the wall, the place could use some attention. It has a convenient location on Market St just a half block from Meeting St.
Overall I was very happy with my lunch, and we were off to see more of this wonderful city.
My husband and I enjoyed this little diner flr a quick lunch. The she crab soup was great as well as our chicken sandwich. I would recommend this place for a great light lunch! Not crowded.
The pecan/banana pancakes are "the best pancakes EVER" according to my wife. The service was great, fast and everyone working was very attentive.
It was recommended by hotel staff and it was very good. Nothing special inside but nice booths by the window. Ended up there twice with the family and the service was verry friendly both times. Food was very, try the crab omelet and the grits.
Cute, slightly overpriced, but that is to be expected for its location. Nothing to dislike, really. Pretty good selection of soups and sandwiches. The word that comes to mind is benign. You won't have the best meal of your life there, but you won't have a bad one, either.
A no-frills breakfast spot. A little noisy but excellent food quality for the price. Friendly service too.
Nice place. Came in for breakfast, place was hopping... Breakfast was excellent... My wife and I loved the lively environment...
This place is conveniently located on Market street and right across from Charleston Place. I had the crab and bacon omelet. It was A LOT of food. The omelet was good, a little too large. It also had tomato’s, spinach and cheese in it. It was good but lacking in seasoning. The potato pancake side was delectable. The service was friendly and fantastic and the food came out quickly.
Great food and even better service. I had the corned beef hash omelette and the California croissant. They were both delicious the only negative for me was the potatoes. They have a certain distinct taste. But my tastes are different and maybe others will probably love them.
Would I come back? 100%.
Also, don’t forget to try the boylan coke. It’s also delicious.
Close to all the action, yet relaxing with fair prices. Friendly staff. Good selections and the cook even said thank you on our way out.
Great southern diner. The catfish and grits, shrimp po boy, and crab omelet were superb.
One of the best meals I have ever had in my life. Absolutely gorgeous food and if I ever return to Charleston, this place will be my first stop! 5 Stars!
I ordered a regular egg and cheese sandwich on a sour dough bread with a side of grilled potato pancake and a basket of tenders. The sandwich was good, but I never received the potato pancake, and the server charged me for a fried fish basket rather than the tender basket. The server who was serving us was already fighting, yelling , and was stressed out at the back door. I liked the place but will suggest everyone check their bills before paying.
This was a welcome respite from all the overpriced, bougie restaurants around downtown. Great kids menu, generous portions, comfortable booth seating, and they provide crayons and an activity sheet for kids which was a big help. Tasty cola in a glass bottle. Steak and eggs were both a bit overcooked and steak was salty and not what I expected (but that was my fault for not understanding it was more like a burger patty). Staff were wonderful and patient, and environment was conducive to a couple of us getting some remote work done on laptops. Variety of side choices was nice. I enjoyed the fried okra.
Hidden gem tucked away on market st. Downtown Charleston. Super close to King Street shopping. The breakfast is phenomenal made from fresh ingredients. Definitely in my top 2 places to grab a hardy breakfast. If you are unsure what to get; I would suggest the Ham Egg & Cheese. Just a Simple sandwich packed with flavor. I love the vibe here; It has this old time Diner feel with the glittery red seats and stainless steel decor over the kitchen. The staff is friendly and professional, Greeting you promptly when you arrive. Don’t look past this place…it’s really good food and may just be my new place to eat breakfast when I am downtown on business.
Great service and reasonably priced traditional menu!!!
We just happen to come across this Hidden Gem for lunch while leaving our Hotel, The Kings Courtyard Inn. And boy we are glad we did. We were looking for a traditional style lunch menu. Dee was a Great server! She is super friendly and very knowledgeable. Lunch was great. Even one of the kitchen staff we ran into outside the building was very nice and conversational. We liked it so much we came back the next morning for breakfast before leaving town.
Always busy and always good! I always have the Po Boy or shrimp and grits! A little off the main streets so it’s not a huge line of tourists. Also love the Bill Murray tribute!
