If you love Italian in an accessibly classy neighborhood spot, make a reservation at Capa Tosta in Pleasant Plains. My friend and I made last minute reservations for 7:45 p.m. on a Wednesday evening for dinner and drinks. We left impressed. Here's why.
1) Food: The menu is divided between starts, mains, and a surprisingly large dessert menu. My friend ordered the bolognese and I the chicken parm. We both really enjoyed our meals.
The chicken parm is HUGE! It's a large thin cut of chicken on top of pasta. The pasta came with vodka sauce, which I don't usually like, but loved this one. It even outshined the chicken, which was also great.
To start, complimentary warm bread came out. The oil and balsamic vinegar on the table went well with it.
2) Drinks: Italian drinks skew more bitter, but as a sweet drinker, I enjoyed the "Cali" with vodka, elderflower, lime, processo, and lemon peel. My friend really enjoyed the negroni.
3) Service: It was attentive and on point. They left us alone while taking care of our every need at the same time.
4) Space: It's a small space with a dining room, a bar, and an outdoor patio. Because it's more intimate, it makes for a great date spot.
5) Neighborhood: There's a lot to walk to in this neighborhood from restaurants in Park View to bars in Columbia Heights. We found street parking a few blocks from the restaurant.
Been wanting to come for a while and finally stopped in while on the run. The meatballs were excellent and I live bread when it’s served with olive oil and balsamic vinegar! Mama Mia!! I’ll be back for a more extensive meal bit the bread was wonderful and the meatball with the bursts were scrumptious!!!
Cozy spot with classic italian food. Came for DC cocktail week and was very impressed with the cocktails we tried. We also tried the antipasto cheese plate, loved the burrata on that, and the tiramisu which was very tasty.
It would be nice to have a smaller dish specifically for olive oil/balsamic to dip bread into instead of having to use the larger dish. Service could also be improved, I did feel hounded at times by the server and the owner(potentially?) kept walking to the front door of the restaurant and peering out, which added slightly anxious vibe to the whole meal.
If you like a quiet neighborhood restaurant, this is your place. After a few visits, you might even feel like one of the regulars - friendly service. What lacks in presentation is easily overlooked in taste. Don't come here extremely hungry. Portions are small, but when combined with an appetizer and dessert, you'll walk away very satisfied.
This was an absolutely gem! Will definitely be coming back. The atmosphere, service, and food were all 10/10!
Have visited this place a few times and it is always jaw droppingly delicious. The Frito Misto is a must have appetizer! Their pastas are amazing, with the best Italian sausage and chicken - so tender and flavorful. Their cocktails are delicious too! On top of the amazing food is top tier service.
Will be back, and back often!
We absolutely love this place, our neighborhood Italian restaurant. We have come here many times and it’s one of our favorite places to eat in the city.
We were disappointed they changed the menu a few weeks back and removed some of our favorites like the Brussels sprouts, pasta with vodka sauce and sausage, and the lamb shank. Please bring them back! This won’t dissuade us from coming but we miss these truly excellent dishes.
I went here for a birthday dinner with a large group and it was truly one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had! The food and drinks were great but what really stood out was just how above and beyond the staff went to make sure we all had a great time. I was surprised with two different birthday cocktails that were very tasty and creative and an awesome tiramisu. Pro tip: If you are okay with one person in your large party picking up the tab, I highly recommend you ask to play credit card roulette. You won’t regret it!
Delicious pasta, savory cocktails, & fast service in a cozy atmosphere. The owner himself, Aldo was very welcoming and told us how this hidden gem is family owned. All of the pasta is made from scratch in-house so you can imagine the texture and quality is 10/10. Will definitely be back to enjoy the patio once it gets warmer!
The food was delicious, and just the right amount, one felt full after but not heavy. The servers were friendly and accommodating, and the food arrived promptly after ordering. As a sober person, I particularly appreciated their mocktail options. All in all, a great experience
