One of my favorite places for Ethiopian food in DC especially with low costs, good portion sizes, and incredible flavor. Recommend getting one of the combo plates for a good variety especially a veggie combo and a meat combo One purchases the dishes at the counter, pays the bill, and then can sit at one of the tables before a buzzer tells you when the food is ready. It is usually quite empty as most people do takeout, and the tables seat 4, but one can easily move them around or add chairs. Overall, very satisfied with the meal, the service, and the food!

Such great food and service!! Perfect for anyone that is vegan and/or gluten free, as they have a wide array of delicious plant-based stews and even gluten-free Injera if you request it (although it costs extra). Have been here twice already and plan to keep coming back.

Probably the best Ethiopian food I’ve ever had (as a New Yorker reviewing the D.C. food scene, you know it has to be legit). The veggie platter is huge and absolutely scrumptious (the mashed beans are a personal favorite) and a great deal at $12. Plus, you know it’s going to be good when utensils aren’t an option. Pictured: veggie platter with the mild lentils, mashed beans, collard greens, and cabbage/potato.

Went for breakfast. The jumbo breakfast combo can more than comfortably feed two people! Absolutely delicious!

Great Ethiopian food & a kind staff! The food came out quickly and it was a relaxed atmosphere- great for a quick bite or for take out. Lots of vegetarian/vegan options too!

I’ve really liked the veggie platter I’ve had here. The dish in my picture has some meat in the middle that I didn’t really like but I loved everything else around it. My particular favorites were the yellow lentils, collard greens and spicy potatoes. The price is great for what you get, highly recommend!

Absolutely incredible!! With its outstanding food, generous portions, and speedy service, it's impossible not to fall in love with this no-frills, hole-in-the-wall gem of a restaurant. I ordered two of their veggie combos to go: the special (which comes with six delicious items), and the deluxe (which comes with ten). I was genuinely shocked when the staff came out with one of those aluminum roasting pans usually used for catering for the deluxe combo! The portions are definitely beyond generous -- that was enough food to feed a whole family of four, and it was only about $20! There's a lot of overlap between the two veggie combos, but one thing is clear from both of these orders: despite the impressive speed of its service, Habesha definitely isn't cutting any corners on the quality of their food. Every item was executed to perfection; each of the various warm chickpea, lentil, and veggie dishes were packed with all the classic, comforting flavors and spices that make Ethiopian food so amazing. The salads were fresh and exactly what I needed to break apart the richness of the cooked dishes. And the injera was, of course, the foundation of the meal. They have imported teff injera, so you can easily make your meal gluten-free for a small added fee (or, honestly, even if you aren't gluten-free, I still recommend trying it out). From the quality of the food to the friendliness and efficiency of their service, Habesha is hands down one of the best Ethiopian restaurants in the District. To seal the deal even more, they're also open until ridiculously late -- so the next time you get the late-night cravings, why not give Habesha a try?

Feels like Addis Ababa!! This is my 2nd day in D.C. and I can proudly say D.C. isn’t complete without Ethiopian food! Being from Minneapolis, MN, I have to say D.C. took it to another level with Ethiopian food. I still love Ethiopian food back in MN but D.C. is different and would have to top this up with the best Ethiopian food ever (excluding Addis Ababa). I also tried the raw kitfo sandwich for the first time it was great!!!

Favorite place to get food in the area - Hands down. Delicious! Ethiopian options. Very reasonable prices - especially lunch specials . Large quantities. Feels like you're transported to a little Ethiopia.

Delicious! I ordered Uber Eats from here and food was tasty and fresh, even after traveling across town. While it was a bit pricey through Uber Eats, you get a TON of food that keeps well for next day leftovers. I ordered the Special Veggie Combo (6 options) for a large lunch/dinner for myself and there was enough food for leftover lunch the next day. If you get the food yourself (not delivery) the value is unbeatable. The only slight drawback is the kik alicha (yellow split peas) was very very mild and could use additional/stronger spices.
