Philly Cold Cuts - Great Neck in my opinion has the best subs in Hampton Roads. The sub rolls are warm, soft, and tasty.😋I usually order the Turkey and Cheese sub or the Philly Steak and cheese sub. Philly Cold Cuts menu is loaded with so many good choices. The sandwiches are so filling, no skimpy meals here❗️The staff is very friendly and eager to assist. It is usually very busy here but definitely worth the wait❗️
I had to give this place a chance as I've read about them being the best cheesesteak of 2019. I'm not a philly cheesesteak expert by any means, but I do love to eat and enjoy one from time to time. I also like to know that I don't just have one place to go for a great cheesesteak. The only place I've known for the past 25 years has got to be Philly Steaks on Tidewater Dr in Norfolk. That's all I've known and just found about a few years ago about their Iggle's location in Virginia Beach. Just around the corner on Great Neck road is a place called, Philly Cold Cuts. It used to be called, Philadelphia Cold Cuts when I'd first heard of them back in 2009. I didn't hear too many people talk about them. It's 13 years later, they have a new name and they'd been voted a better cheesesteak than my usual places. I had to check it out.
It's a little drive for me living in Norfolk, but I was on a quest to get a philly cheesesteak. No, I'm not going to drive 6-7 hours with tolls and gas to get a cheesesteak in Philadelphia. I've seen the ones online and the huge squares of diced onions frighten me. I don't need onions on my cheesesteak bigger than my cuts of ribeye steak. That's a whole 'nother story I don't have time for. Back to PCC. I drove 30 minutes in the rain to get to PCC. I'd wanted to get there before the lunch crowd. I get a medium sized cheesesteak with white American cheese with onions and mushrooms. I'd split one with a friend and let it cool down a bit. Upon first bite, I'd noticed the bottom bread toasted. It wasn't bad, but I wasn't used to a toasted bread for a cheesesteak. The cheesesteak was actually really good. We shared some fries which were really good. I'd ordered a take-out for my dinner which was a single burger with cheese, lettuce and tomato and a medium Italian hoagie. The burger was good. The hoagie was really good. Burger and hoagie are pictured. I ate half of the hoagie before taking a pic. I didn't even take a picture of the cheesesteak as I'd eaten it already at PCC.
Upon waiting for my take-out order, I'd noticed that they had an upright Ms Pac-Man/Galaga arcade game. I'd played Galaga which is one of my favorite games. The screen was a little old and outdated. The joystick was a little rough and jammed a bit. I was there for the cheesesteak experience anyways.
I can safely say that I will be back to have a whole Philly Cheesesteak. I was impressed with it.

They’re were three people working 7/12/2023 @ 3:30. I tried to make a call in order for pickup kept going to voicemail. Walked in had to wait to get seen to get my order taken. After ordering I called to see if the phone was ringing in person and it was. I’m from Philadelphia and we do a lot of picking up orders and for it not to be busy kinda makes no sense. Just voicing and issue. Still was yummy and filled the cravings for a Great cheesesteak. Go birds 🦅

To preface, I was born and raised in Philadelphia. The cheesesteak and buffalo chicken cheesesteak were dry, and the rolls were on the hard side. I think if they added more buffalo sauce to the chicken cheesesteak, the outcome would have been different. I'm not sure how I would improve the cheesesteak to make it less dry because I am not in the kitchen to see what they're doing, but I don't think cooking it in more oil would fix the issue, or maybe it would. It's something to experiment, or maybe finding steak with a higher fat content would help with the moisture. I was super impressed to find that they use Amoroso rolls because those are the ones they use in Philly and the seasoning of the meat in the subs and how the meats were chopped finely were excellent.
