I am blown away by my experience at Sushi Zona. I tried them for the first time tonight and guess what got me? The miso soup. I never knew miso soup could be that good. Seriously folks, for me to be blown away by something so 'pedestrian' as a bowl of what most Japanese restaurants treat as a 'throw away' item, is really something. The rest of the food was great - good gyozas, good oshinki and fantastically fresh sashimi. I'm stuffed but looking forward to my next meal with them.
NEW OWNER ! it's good again !. I have changed my opinion, again, and the embargo is over. New ownership has redeemed this local authentic Japanese favorite. Their service is now friendly and courteous, the quality of the dishes has improved, as the sushi chef is the new owner. Thank goodness! The chef should always be the owner in my opinion. They know what's important, and the food is matter of personal pride, not just a commodity to be maximized as profit. This was only our first visit back to it, so I will expand this later after a few more meals there. But it is promising!
Best sushi in town. I'm surprised this place isn't #1 on Tucson's best sushi list. The atmosphere is very casual yet authentic with Japanese music playing and a sushi bar with a chef that is very friendly. The rest of the staff are very friendly and prompt as well. Yukari has a huge menu, both the regular and sushi menu. It's usually very difficult to decide between the Two Thumbs Up Roll or one of the Bento boxes for lunch. You definitely get what you pay for, and it's one of the reasons why we come here often to get our sushi fix.
While the restaurant itself is not fancy, the sushi is very good--fresh, flavorful, and they offer a wide selection of rolls. The udon is also very good, as is the house salad. This is definitely one of my go-to places for a quick, healthy, and tasty meal.
Pricey But Worth It. The pricing is slightly higher than other sushi places in Tucson but what you're paying for is an increase in quality. The sushi is expertly prepared; the entree items are delicious and could support the restaurant on their own. They have ramen on the menu but I have yet to try it.
I've noticed that the U of A Japanese department likes to frequent this place, so I'd trust their choice of Japanese restaurants. :P
YUM!. This is most definitely the best sushi I've had in Tucson. Everything always tastes fresh! Great flavors. We live on the far west side of Tucson but never hesitate for a second when thinking of making the 25 minute drive to Yukari just for sushi.
I've heard that the sushi is good, but I've honestly not tried it. The delicious variety on the a la carte menu has always snared me away. They have a lot of good everyday cuisine that you can't find in most other Japanese restaurants in Tucson, like onigiri, takoyaki, dango, and much more. The menu is quite extensive, so you should be able to find something you like for sure. This is a great restaurant.
Excellent sushi! Fresh and quite a lot of food for the price. Great service! They also do to go orders.
We ordered Deluxe Bento and Triple Crown Bento. The nigiri sushi’s bottom rice part was too dense for me; I prefer fluffy, light rice that isn't so packed together. But overall we like it and will come back again.
Great food here, I honestly loved it all. We ordered a lot cause it was my birthday, but you can definitely get a filling meal that's not too expressive. The sashimi was my favorite, very fresh and delicious.
Best sushi in Tucson! Gotta enjoy the Are you killing Me roll if you enjoy spicy hot food. I dare you to order it Jack's style, best have some water or saki nearby though.
My wife and I were given the privilege to go sport fishing in San Diego and came home with a beautiful Mahi Mahi (Dorado). We drove straight to Sushi Zona for our favorite Chef Taichi to prepare our 20 hour old catch. We were not disappointed, he did an amazing job cleaning and preparing the fish. He served us Sashimi, Nigiri and grilled fish, including the grilled collar from our catch. It was the best sushi I've ever had in my life. All of the staff was polite, timely and friendly. The ambiance at night was amazing. I would recommend Sushi Zona to anyone in Tucson without a second thought. Thank you so much Chef Taichi and staff, you have all given our family a very special memorable moment.
Sushi Zona is my go to spot in Tucson for sushi. Great selection of rolls and the quality is consistent. Chef is very kind and staff is friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend! Also - don’t sleep on the Tonkotsu Ramen, or the hiyashi chuka (on their summer menu).
One of my all time favorite places, the atmosphere is amazing, they play smooth jazz and it's always so quiet and relaxing. The food is also really amazing love the curry
The food was great and the staffs were very friendly. Sashimi was very fresh and you can see the chef is preparing your Sashimi from your table. Definitely coming back to the place soon or later.
Really nice and clean place. Fresh sashimi and hearty ramen. Great attentive service too!
