Yum! The food was really the best greek I have had in tucson and the dining experience was really great. Loved the service and complimentary house made bread. The menu has a lot of great options and although its expensive it was worth every penny.
Beware False Reviews. First of all, Athens is my family's favorite Greek restaurant in Tucson. The service and food have always been outstanding. My purpose in writing this is to ask everyone to please disregard Trinity Parker's review. She tried to post an identical review, under a completely different name, on Yelp. It was flagged immediately and sent to the filtered reviews. I realize that many people, myself included, post reviews on different sites. Usually under the same name. I wish that Urbanspoon would create a filter system because without one questionable reviews like that are out there for all to see.
We went here on New Years and had a great time enjoying the gyro platter with melt in your mouth lamb and after a few drinks plates started breaking...of course with Owner introduction. Great location to wander around after a great meal.
Tiri Saganaki appetizer was great. Had the pork tenderloin and the gyro platter, which both had a lot of flavor and a good size portion. Finished with baklava and kataifi with Greek coffee. Yum....
Good lunch spot. There's a lot to be said for the Athens. It's a pretty room, there is nice outdoor dining, there is some parking, and the place is friendly. Having said that we prefer it for lunch over dinner. Lunch is quieter, the dishes are simplier, and the service works better. Dinner it seems stretches the place a little too thin. The SW service which is young and friendly during the day becomes annoyingly amateurish at nite. The entrees seen to be priced a little too high (the $19 octopus for example), the drinks seem a little small for $6.50, the orea salad is over dressed, the small scallop plate ($12) comes unadorned. We will be going back for lunch as always, but we think we will move on for dinner.
Good food, nice atmosphere. This restaurant has an upscale feel, but deliveres with excellent service and great food. Every time we are in Tucson I have to take the wife here at least once.

Love it!. Just wanted to come on and say that Athens topped itself yet again, the new additions to the fish menu are amazing (love that crab-stuffed trout!) and the new wine our server recommended - it was something red from Crete that I'd never had before but it was outstanding :)
Happened to notice Trinity Parker's post... haha we were there that night when that happened a couple Wednesdays ago - and honey you and your boyfriend were way out of line. Why don't you mention how he threatened to beat up a 70 year old man when you were asked to leave because you were obviously drunk? Also, if you're in fine "dinning" (please find a spell checker!) you should know better than to act like that. Go back to McDonald's where you belong. ;)
If you've never been there before, Athens is some of the best seafood you'll find in the desert and the wine list is really reasonably priced for how good it is - we try to get something new every time we go in. And while my stomach can't handle it too often anymore (yes, I'm old) every now and then I can't resist the lamb chops - perfecto!
Best fine dining in Tucson. This is a hidden gem. It is the best place to take a date or go with friends. If you are veggie, go with the eggplant. If you eat meat, with seafood santorini, chicken sovlaki, or the lamb chops, depending on your mood. Highly recommended!
Now this is the real thing. Not that I've ever been to Greece, I just know this isn't the usual fare you find in a Greek-American restaurant. Calamari are usually tough batter-fried rings of squid. At the Athens they are small, whole tender squid pan-fried in olive oil. Where else can you order retsina (pine-sap flavored wine)? For that matter, where else does the chef come out and personally refill your glass just to find out who's ordering calamari and retsina for lunch?
George and Andreas rock the Greek house here, most excellent sweetbreads and the lamb is ALWAYS great.
When I first arrived in Tucson for work the last thing in my mind was encountering anything Greek. When I discovered that they actually have an annual Greek festival I was very surprised! I then realized that there were various Greek restaurants in the city. I guess Greeks are everywhere! Lol. I’ve only been to two Greek restaurants but the best one is Athens in 4th Avenue. It’s very authentic and the ambience is very Greek! I haven’t had anything bad on the menu there but then again I’m Greek myself so I’m partial. That said I highly recommend it! The service is great! 👍☺️
Incredible service and incredible food. The waiter was the kindest person ever - very enthusiastic.
The dinner was on the upper end of pricing ($30 with tip). I ordered a main dish, dessert, and an iced coffee for this price and I was very satisfied with the value. Again let me reiterate, after being to Greece last summer, this is the real deal!
I loved the atmosphere, our server was absolutely terrific! Just, the fact we waited over an hour to get our meals to us, my kids ate the goldfish snacks I had in my purse and it ruined their dinner. They didnt eat the food I ordered for them. Overall, my dinner was delicious!
The gyro meat was tender, delicious, and plentiful. Service was pretty good despite being busier than they normally expect during lunch. Would definitely return if the opportunity arose.

Best authentic Greek in town. Portions are perfect, fresh, and delicious. The service is always good. Friendly knowledgeable staff. Very accommodating of allergies and quick to check and follow up on questions. Vegetarian and gluten free available. They do have a separate menu for allergies and dietary needs. They have a long wine list and a large variety of appetizers.
I've always loved this place - my family & I have been coming here for years! The food, people & atmosphere is magnificent. Today, the people here just went a couple steps beyond. Our lovely waitress totally understood how I could barely eat (I'd had a seizure recently, so my tongue was chewed up on one side), & she & the chefs made it possible to eat the gyro meat without hurting at all! They cut up real small, just for me! If that doesn't make them a 5 ☆ restaurant, I dunno what will!
Went there on a whim, and almost didn't go in when I saw it near empty, but I was drawn by one of the waitress' smile and decided to give it a chance. I ordered the Cabrilla and the Cheesecake (based on the waitress' recommendation), and both tasted amazing! The staff and service was friendly and efficient. Great value. Best decision I made that night, and definitely will be back next time I'm in town.
