I love this place! Great taste on everything and prices are affordable and the staff is excellent!! I'm a long time customer and I could say this is my favorite sushi place in Tucson.
The food is always incredible and the staff is so friendly. I have seen people complain about the "chaos" of the dine in area before but honestly, I haven't experienced that. I went today, and the guy who seated us pulled out my chair for me since my hands were full holding my son. Icing on the cake of already amazing service.
Absolutely incredible first experience. The food was Fabulous, service was pleasant. Location is great. Prices are very reasonable. I highly recommend this place, for a wonderful evening.
Sushi was outstanding! If you are in a hurry..this isn't the restaurant for you. If you want quality food and exceptional sushi...definitely stop in. First time eating here..it is now favorite sushi in Tucson. Portions are huge and fresh. 5 stars..only rated 4 for service because it took quite awhile to get served
Best sushi I have in Tucson. Salmon is always fresh and fatty (and they always give you extra, even though the original piece is so big and thick already). The toro and o-toro are must-have when available. The vinegar rice fits the sashimi to a T, the acidity and viscosity are just prefect. Impeccable! I go there almost once a week for three years.
Unique little hole in the wall place. MASSIVE sushi roll menu with lots of options. LOVED the rocky point roll (more eel sauce!), Shrimp goyoza roll was ok, but not as good. We also split the Sampler #1 platter. The chicken kara-age is amazing. Could just eat a bowl of that! Get the Chipotle sauce to dip it in. Good prices. Good food. Will be back.
Ok, where do i start. I went to this restaurante 4 times in 2 weeks. Its really good, in all of the areas, according to the price we pay. Every penny it’s worth it. Sushi, Ramen, everything we ordered was perfect. Free parking lot with a lot of spaces. If you are visiting tucson, you can’t miss this restaurant. Just one note: always check the schedule of this restaurant, they work few hours.
The wife and I came on a Friday evening at about 7:30 based on the recommendations our dental hygienist and a co-worker. The co-worker's boyfriend is a sushi chef in downtown Tucson so I was anxious as my previous experience had been only so-so. She gave me 3 tips and Shogun is closest. Good atmosphere, with a waterfall near where we were seated. Also with curtained booths across one wall (seating from 2 to 6) that must be reserved, first come first served. Otherwise, the atmosphere was functional and plain. But that's what a sushi fan expects. Right?
When we arrived they were really, really busy and we didn't have a reservation so we waited 10 minutes for a table. Sadly, my wife doesn't like sitting at the sushi bar.
We were served miso soup and salad (both delicious and included at no extra charge) and the wife had to ask for a fork. As a sushi fan for many years, I knew this was a very good sign. We both had the house hot saki which was exceptional.
I ordered 6 pieces of yellowtail sashimi. One of 3 mix-and-match choices which also included salmon and tuna. I thought this was expensive at order time. Wow! Was I mistaken. The serving was huge! Elsewhere locally I have ordered 8 pieces for 16 bucks and ended up ordering twice. Not at Shogun though. I was full! And the yellowtail was very fresh and delicious.
We had ice cream for desert and I ordered bean which can be really bland. But when it's good it's very good. Two scoops was the standard serving size and it was so fresh and so good.
Then our check was the perfect finish to a perfect meal. Far less than our usual sushi bill here or in California.
One thing was a bit odd, but turned out not to be a problem at all. I had to ask for ginger and wasabi. And then a refill because the first portion was too small. (Remember, the yellowtail was huge). However, both times it was brought immediately. Both the ginger and wasabi were very fresh and tasty. And the wasabi was creamy and real, not that fake paste that won't dissolve in the soy sauce often served jnstead these days.
I have two more recommendations to try. But Shogun has got to be the best deal in Tucson!
Excellent food and staff. The waterfall sets a nice tone for the dining area.
These were only 2 of the 5 rolls we ate. The Mexicali was the best, so good in fact we ordered a second roll.
Definitely will be back.
Food is pretty good here and we enjoy it every time we go. The half price sushi is a great idea as well. This is a place you definitely want to try. The staff has always been friendly every time we visit here as well.
You cannot beat Shogun for Japanese food in our area. Friendly servers, best hospitality, freshest fish and reasonable prices.
Top rated experience, both the food and pleasant conversation with the owner and one of the sushi chefs. Many creative rolls and the hamachi and toro were first rate. We will be back when in ABQ.
