I've been coming here since I was a small child and this place still tastes as good as I remember. I always get the 雞尾包 and egg tart, those two are the best items. I also recommend the large coconut loaf, that is good as well. The place may look a little bit older and run-down but please don't hesitate to come here, you won't regret it!

Bought a taro flavored birthday cake for an ex-girlfriend from here. She loved it and it looked beautiful too tbh. It was so fresh and tasted divine. Thank you for the wonderfully sweet treat.

I bought some egg tarts and a fruit cake back during Mother's day. The cake was simple, fresh, and soft. My mom loved it! It wasn't too sugary. Every bite was really delightful. Anyways, they only take cash. I've been here a couple times. I finally remembered to write a review about this friendly bakery.

Love, love, love this place. They have the best cream buns EVA (I've been all over SF China Town and couldn't find better) and their coconut buns are superb (especially fresh out of the oven). It's a cash only establishment. Buy extras. You'll thank me later.

This is a small traditional Chinese bakery. I bought coconut bun and pie. I paid total 7 USD. Bakery was delicious. Only cash is accepted. There is no seating, only for take away.

I’ll admit, when I visited the ID as a child I always took Cake House for granted. My family didn’t go there very often so I didn’t think much of the place. It’s nondescript like a lot of places in the area, but after trying to find good Chinese bakeries I was led to Cake House. I’ve been to Cake House a few times as an adult and have enjoyed the pastries I got every time. Most recently I visited on a Wednesday morning around 9am. I lucked out and got there as the owner brought out freshly baked ham and egg buns. I ended up buying a ham and egg bun, chicken pie, and sponge bake. I enjoyed everything I bought. The chicken pie was tasty and rich – the chicken tasted like chicken in Chinese lo mai gai but with a Western crust. The sponge cake was nice and fluffy without being too sweet as well. The highlight was the fresh ham and egg bun though. It was amazing. The fluffy bun was wrapped around the ham and egg but what distinguished this one was the egg wash on top. The bun had been baked and had a golden brown almost darker brown color and the egg wash created a sort of thin crust that gave a little resistance when biting into the bun adding a wonderful texture. I’ve had many ham and egg buns in my life and this was the best I’ve ever eaten. I’m glad I found out that their baked goods are legit eventually. I will be back to try more of the pastries.

TLDR Review: Very nice service and good desserts/pastries that won't break your wallet! Got 3 buns for under 5$. Well worth it. - - - ----------------- Detailed Review: This review is based off of 4 categories. Food, Service, Atmosphere, and Cleanliness. The stars are divided among these categories and weighed more heavily on FOOD. This will hopefully help people understand why the place is good at and why I rate the # of stars. Food is rated out of 4 main grades with the total . Unacceptable (0 stars) , Not Good (.5) , Fair (1) , Great (2 stars-Max given)) The other categories are graded by 3 levels. Max 1 star for each category. Unacceptable (0 stars) , Fair/Good (.5), Great (1 stars-Max given)) Max total of stars: 5 FOOD: (Great!! 2 out of 2 stars) -Buns are dense but retains moisture and the softness in the bun -Because it is dense, the buns are slightly heavier than other buns I've tried around the area. Possibly due to also more filling -The bread doesn't feel dry. Reminds me of Hokkaido Milk Bread. perhaps it is!??! -I love how much filling this bakery gives. Check my photos out for the Custard bun and see how much filling is inside it! -Very nice and soft filling. Flavorful and a lot of character. -Its nicely priced and inexpensive (saying cheap would make the food sound "okay" BUT ITS NOT. THE PASTRIES IS GREAT!) SERVICE: (Great: 1 out of 1 stars) -I was served by a nice lady behind the counter. She recommended and told nice stories behind several of the buns. She also described how some of the buns were made and I was surprise about the amount of pride behind them! Confidence is good! She even told me which were the fresher ones without asking! Felt like a nice personal conversation and I was very pleased. ATMOSPHERE: (Good/Great: .75 out of 1) -I didn't pay attention to this too much but there wasnt anything distinctly bad. I liked how the wall where the entrance is is basically one big windowed wall and you can chill and see people pass by. For the price of the food and such, the place has ok furniture. Don't expect comfy booths. Its a bakery not a restaurant lol. CLEANLINESS: (Great: 1 out of 1 stars) -Atmosphere wise, there isn't anything outstandingly bad but the place looks clean. The food/pastries were handled professionally and with thongs. Not too picky with this category cause I don't think its that important. Total Stars: 4.75 out of 5. Basically a 5 star imo. For the price and the nature of the bakery. It exceeds my expecations. It would be a different story if its meant to be more fancy/pricey.

I started coming to Cake House about 40 years ago when I would tag along to work with my dad on a Saturday. I would get a Coconut Bun, a cookie or a Bao and a 7Up as a reward for not bugging him too much while he worked. I came here weekly in college when I worked at my aunt/uncle’s ad agency a few blocks away, and I’ve ducked in countless times in the years that have followed. The staff has watched me grow up and now I take my kids here. Everything is made and served with care and gratitude. The food tastes as special today as it did as a kid. Make sure to get a Coconut Bun from the middle and sit down when you experience it!

I’m so glad I found this place. Everything is fresh and tasty. This is better than 85 degree and the entire box only cost $20. Cash only. Go support this small business.

Bring cash! And definitely get a coconut bun (or 5). They are too good. I thoroughly enjoyed them even when cold. But everything else at this store has been amazing, too. Price and quality just cannot be beat. I can’t wait to go again!
