cute takeout-only place for a quick Vietnamese bite! duck banh mi is only available tuesdays and thursdays.
Tasty fresh banh mi! I prefer roast pork. One banh mi is enough to feed a person.
For the price point their food quality is perfect. No wonder why it's so popular!
- Good Vietnamese coffee (although the coffee isn't as strong as the authentic ones, I still found it pleasant).
- Thai tea was nice but a little sweet for my taste. (Again, still liking it).
I won't recommend their rolls however. The portion is big if that's what you are after, but other Vietnamese places I tried had obviously better quality.
This place is amazing. One of the cheapest lunches you can get in SF these days but super delicious. There is always a long line (with reason) but the line moves very fast because they work so efficiently. One of my favorite lunch spots.
Every big, wholesome bite through the crisp exterior of the French baguette into the soft bread and tender chicken of the 5 Spices Banh My was well-balanced and complemented by the spicy jalapeños, vinegary carrots and daikon, creamy mayo, and mellow and earthy pâté.
Super fast and reliable place! I always get their vegan tofu banh mi and it’s so delicious sometimes i get this 2-4x a week for lunch. I’ve introduced this place to 3 of my colleagues and they’re also obsessed with this place (they like the chicken and duck banh mi and bowl).
I typically order online to avoid the lines and my sandwich is usually ready in less than 5 minutes.
One small thing is that sometimes when I come a bit early (eg 10am), the tofu isn’t marinated and flavorful enough.
That being said, I love DragonEats, it’s tofu banh mi, it’s fast and friendly service, and Tuan (the usual person at the front)!
This is one of my favorite lunch spots in the neighborhood. The food is always fresh and delicious. The price is also pretty good. The only downside is that they don’t have a seating place, but there are plenty of common spaces around, anyway.
Decided to give their BBQ pork banh mi a try during lunch hour. I can see through their kitchen that everything is freshly made. There was a line, but service was quick. The slices of pork were sufficient for such a big sandwich. Everything tastes really good, bread could be a little softer.
Excellent sandwiches! Fresh with a touch of family recipe. I got the Banh My Roasted Pork this time and it's always delicious!
It's a 3.5 for me! The banh mis make lunch quick and easy but the flavor isn't fully there. I personally don't like how the banh mis are assembled because the meat is on one side and the veggies are on the other so you never really get everything together in one bite unless you have a big ole mouth haha.
Let's break down the banh mi!
- Bread: Soft, chewy, and has a crunch.. but I want the crumbs to get everywhere and cut the roof of my mouth ya know? Ha, I kid.
- Pickled Daikon & Carrots: I never know if I'm gonna get the old stuff where it's already browning or the good stuff. It's been a mix.
- Cilantro & Jalapeño: Can't really F up here right? I do wish the jalapeños were spicy though - I want it to burn!
- Meat (I've tried the roast pork and 5 spice chicken on separate occasions): Both are just lacking in flavor. The meat is also shredded and I'm not sure if that's intentional. Both the pork and chicken kinda tasted the same because it tastes like nothing. I seem to get too much meat juice too and that just makes my sandwiches soggy.
- Pate: It's tasty and I wish there was more of this stuff but it also always seem kinda wet? Maybe because of the meat juices.
Overall, this place is close to my office so it makes an easy lunch but I only go once in a long while.
This place is for to go only. They serve duck every Tuesday and Thursday. Very reasonable price considering it’s in downtown sf. Tasty food, highly recommend it if you want something easy and fast.
