Buena Vista in San Francisco is a classic gem with a rich history. Renowned for its iconic Irish coffee, this establishment offers a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. The friendly staff and historic charm make it a must-visit spot. Whether you're enjoying a drink at the bar or savoring comfort food, the experience is delightful. Located in a vibrant neighborhood, Buena Vista captures the essence of San Francisco's character. A true landmark that continues to be a favorite for locals and visitors alike.
This place is such an iconic place to visit! The Irish coffee is so good & is a must try!! The bartender is really accommodating & made a drink for us!! Peanut whiskey (Screwball) & a raspberry liquor & it tasted like a peanut butter & jelly sandwich!! Wow that was so good & my new favorite drink!! Just on drinks alone between the 4 of us we spent $200.00 it was well worth it & we had a blast!!!
We had crab cakes, a lobster roll and Irish coffee. We ate outside at dusk. It was a cold and dreary afternoon so the Irish coffee hit the spot. It was our first time having one and it was very good. Tip- you do not stir the Irish coffee (I had to google it).
The crab cakes were very good especially with the dill sauce. The seasonal vegetables were good but there could have been more and/or some sort of potato side dish with it.
The lobster roll was good, but fairly basic (as far as lobster rolls go). The french fries were crisp and delicious and the coleslaw was m'eh.
The atmosphere outside was nice as the lights came on and the heater above us kept us comfortable.
Over all, it was nice to experience an institution like the Buena Vista, but we would not likely go back as there are plenty options yet to try.
The last time I was here was 8 years ago. My favorite bartender has passed away. RIP Freddie. The Irish Coffee here is a tradition and so fun to see them get made. The food is great and lucky for us we got seats at the bar right away.
The Buena Vista is definitely a must on your SF visit! I also love that they share their Irish Coffee recipe, and I make it at home in East Tennessee now with my souvenir glasses! I visited on a business trip, and I plan to make another trip to bring my wife, with The Buena Vista as our destination! I loved it so much!
I mean, where else are you going to go for an Irish Coffee in San Francisco? The place was hopping, but we got right in at the bar. This is such a fun place and awesome watching them make drinks! This is a must stop for anytime you're in the city! I go here every time! See you soon!
SO GOOD! Whenever I am in San Francisco this place is a must visit location. The irish coffee is amazing and the clam chowder served in bread bowls is extremely good. I cannot recommend enough. The people that work here are friendly and although the location is small, they ensure you are served quickly and with quality food/drinks.
We visited Buena Vista on advice from a city tour guide by Union Square, and we tried their breakfast before returning for an Irish Coffee after a bike ride. Our breakfast was hot and a perfect portion size for the crab omelette and country sausage benedict. The Irish coffee was really strong but delicious. Service is really nice and in the morning we enjoyed their patio seating.

Stopped by for a taste of the Irish coffee for my husband’s birthday. I do not drink coffee so I was not sure what to expect but I can get into this. The reason why I have this location 4 stars instead of 5 is because I did not have the food. I am planning on going back and updating this review once I do.
I recently visited Buenavista to try their Irish coffee, and it was a delightful experience. The ambiance was cozy and inviting, providing the perfect setting for enjoying a classic drink.
The service was friendly and attentive, making the visit all the more enjoyable.
