Salsa was awesome, homemade chips were really good and homemade taco shells were just okay. Chili Verde was incredibly tasty as were the rice and beans. I didn’t love the enchilada, but that’s not usually something I order. I will definitely eat here again as the service was great and the food was really good overall.
Barely squeaked a 4th star from me because the fajitas were decent.
Ordered the chicken fajitas, carnitas taco, pork tamales and a cheese enchilada with red sauce. Everything fell into the okay category except the fajitas which were just on the plus side of "good."
The carnitas were dry. I know the crispy bits are key, but the pork shouldn't be dry. The tamale was simply bland, and the enchilada had a red sauce that shocked the whole table. We all went around tasting it wondering how a sauce could literally seem to not exist when it entered your mouth. I swear, it was body temperature so aside from knowing that we put something in our mouth, we couldn't otherwise tell. Very strange.
The fajitas however qualified as good. I used to consider myself a bit of a fajita connoisseur, but my skills have degraded of late. These fajitas checked a good number of boxes, sufficient meat and veg, steamed tortillas, sizzling skillet, side plate of rice and beans, additional side plate of sour cream, guac, pico and lettuce. All checked. Missing, shredded cheese and 4th tortilla. Why so few restaurants give the 4th corn tortilla I will never understand. Anyway, the flavor was solid and although the onion to bell pepper balance was a bit pepper heavy, I think some people like it that way. If the chicken was a little less dry it could have been a top notch offering, but as it was, it just sticks in as good.
As a final note, the table chips were decent and clearly made in house. A little thicker than I usually prefer but solid. The table salsa was just okay. A bit watery and mild for my taste. And although it shouldn't be a negative, I can't help but mention this. The same salsa was brought out in two bowls. It would have been nice to have two flavors. Yeah that's like looking a gift horse in the mouth, but the excitement really turns sour when you dig into the second bowl only to find that it's not new or better than the first one.
Definitely way better than La Frontera. Fresh! Not greasy oily goop! My dish was wonderful but my only complaint is the meal portion could be more for the money you spend.
I joined family there after I had already eaten dinner elsewhere, so I just had a cup of soup and a taco. The soup was delicious. The taco was good but not great. They had unlimited refills on tortilla chips, but the chips were served in a small bowl, so we quickly ran out of them, and it took several minutes for the server to offer a refill. Overall I enjoyed this place and their menu and would eat there again.
As a California ex-pat and former resident of Texas, I'm almost always disappointed in Mexican food in Utah... not anymore! Dinner was amazing. My fish tacos were the best I've had in years. The barria tacos were divine! I will be returning.
Fantastic food. Probably the best Mexican food I've had in SLC. The shrimp fajitas and Super Cancun platter were extremely good. This is our number one Mexican restaurant going forward.
The owner is super friendly and the food was amazing. We will definitely be back. My daughter wants to move here from Colorado just for this restaurant and their delicious food 😋
Yum! We were in the area and decided to stop for lunch, we're sure glad we did.
It's a good sign what your meal will be like when you can't stop eating the chips and salsa. We would come back for that alone.
I had the special, Cochinita. The pork is slow cooked in a lime sauce served with habanero pickled red onion, rice and beans. It comes with tortillas for a build - your - own experience.
The pork is melt in your mouth tender in a tasty sauce.
The service was fast, friendly, and helpful.
We will make a point of coming back.
We celebrated my wife's birthday here on St. Patrick's Day. The owner just bought this restaurant a couple of months ago and has completely turned it around for the better! The servers do a great job, and the food tastes great! Their Chile Verde, and their pozole are very good!
first, the staff was amazing. funny, quick and nice. the chips and salsa was tasty, as was what we ordered: the biggest burrito you've ever seen. and it delivered on that. it is the biggest burrito i have ever seen. it was equally as delicious as it was large. the atmosphere is quaint and fun. 10/10 will visit again.
