Great atmosphere, enjoyed the tasting menu
A busy spot with a lively atmosphere. We tried the tasting menu which was very tasty indeed - a sample of 3 starters, 3 mains and 3 desserts. It's a great way of trying as many of the menu items as possible.
Our son is a student at The U and loves Italian food, so we go here when we visit. We went the night before a Thanksgiving and were not disappointed. Everything was delicious and the service was outstanding! We even spoke to a alter a couple of times. My daughter and son-in-law are going to Italy in the spring. Vaulter gave them the address for his restaurant near Florence and even told her to call him before he goes. Falter makes everyone feel like friends and family. We love Valter’s!
Second visit in last 10 days. Thought the first visit, the food and the service we received from EMMA had to be great big dream. Our second visit with 4 friends proved without a doubt that the first visit was not a dream but our second most memorable dining experience we have ever had.
EMMA again served us flawlessly and the food if possible was even better than before.
Valter again proved to be the host with the most, welcoming us to his restaurant and posing for a picture . He regularly checked on us to see if we were happy.
Probably the best food and service we have experienced in our multi continent dining in the last 30 years.

Lively and energized Italian restaurant where Valter, the owner welcomes everyone. All guests are treated to Bruschetta and amazing bread with garlic oil olive for a starter. The menu has many appetizers like eggplant and mozzarella and salads. All of the pastas are served from their preparation skillets just like in Italy. I had the "Tutte Pasta De Valter" which was a combination of "gnocchi arribiata ". and butternut squash and creamed spinach raviolis The ravioli were excellent. Naturally you are too full for desert but you are served some amazing drinking chocolate with a biscotti. While dinner is expensive you will feel like you were treated to an Italian Feast.
Valter’s Osteria – Easily one of the nicest eating atmospheres you will find in Salt Lake City. Wooden floors, finely decorated tables, lots of staff busy polishing silverware, nice artwork on the walls, and an owner that greets guests with kisses on the hand and hugs. Eating here for the first time roughly a month ago, I was certainly very impressed during my first 10 minutes of my wife and I’s dining experience. Valter’s came with much fanfare as well, they are very highly regarded in the food community. In fairness to Valter’s from everything I have heard coming into that night, and also the presentation during the first 10 minutes, my expectations were sky-high. However, I do have to say on the whole I was disappointed. There were areas that Valter’s shined, but others that fell flat for me. I even waited in leaving this review so I could reflect on my experience. Was this a case of the emperor’s new clothes? Here’s my thoughts.
Two thumbs way up!. We ate here twice during a recent trip to SLC. Two of the best dinners ever. Service & Food both outstanding. The owner greeted us like we long lost family. Enthusiastic reccomendation!

Oh my gosh. So we fly into SLC and get to the hotel just at 9. We leave the bags in the car and head towards a restaurant across the street. It's closed, but the owner says there are a couple of nice spots just up the block. We walk up and see Osteria, quick looks shows a nice rating so we stop in. Wonderful greeting by the host. Place is packed at 9pm and lots of very happy look diners. Huge menu and we have just made our choices when the waiter gives us some off menu choices. Wife went with the lamb and i had the seafood risotto. We got an amuse bouche which was tomato on toast. Nice. They also had bread and an olive oil and anchovy paste sauce. Got me to eat WAY too much bread. That sauce was habit forming. Mains came out and they were simply fantastic. The lamb was tender and quite thin. It was amazing. My risotto was out of this world. Huge chunks of salmon and white fish with lots of shrimp and muscles. The sauce was best i have ever had. Almost sweet with a little bit of spice kick. Really really good. We got a desert and really didn't need to order one as before ours showed up we got a biscotti with hot chocolate. Amazing hot chocolate. Desert was amaretto with chocolate. Wife and i agree this was the best meal we have had in a couple of years. To add to the fun the Valter had his evening meal next to us. Talked with us, shared his muscles and cheese with us, and overall made the experience even better. Any trip to SLC will now always include a stop at this restaurant.

When i first herd of valters place i thought it was going to be a crouded little dimmlighted space. i was wrong. when i walked in i found a family welcoming nice resturant. when we were seated the real valter came up to us and welcomed us to his resturant. after we got the menue and orded a delishis food. i orded the lemon chicon and the bread was warm and crispy. it was about a 6 minut wate.when we got the food it tased like hevan. then the real suprise came. a nice water came up to us with little cups of hot choclateand little biscits.when it was time to go valter came and said godby to us. i totaly recomend this restresturant.
Valter at his best!. This was our first visit to Valter's since he left Cucina Toscana. It was like coming home! Every detail of our dining experience was superb!
The bread with olive oil and caper mix was addicting. Our party ordered the Caesar salad which was prepared tableside. We have one vegetarian in our group and he loved the salad.
The pasta came next and it was simply perfect, served with freshly grated cheese. We wanted to have dessert so we didn't have any other courses. Dessert was a mix of gelatos which were divine. We will be back!
Awesome Meal. I took my wife there for our Anniversary. Everything was superb. The service impeccable, the food from soup to dessert was delicious. Watch for the bread it is amazing and with olive oil, garlic, caper and anchovies paste you could eat a loaf or two if you are not careful. The fact they kept refilling it may it harder to resist. Can hardly wait till I go again
I know going to Valter's is an experience & not just a feeding.
We wanted to introduce our granddaughter & her husband to a remarkable dining experience. Valter's Osteria rang our bells. As one might expect we were graciously greeted by their hostess who tells me she had been there 6 years. She acted with pride as if she was an owner. I'm always pleased with an organization that can instill the staff with a sense of ownership over the service they provide. Our server, Gustavo was the same. He took pride in his presentation of our meals. His support team was just as amazing. Each of our 4 courses were wonderful. Thank you Team Valter for a terrific evening.

This place's food is amazing and delicious. I just don’t have the words to describe how good it was. The desserts were delicious as well. I loved the service and how everything was explained. This is such a beautiful place. But tiramisu was okay.
Great food and excellent service. The atmosphere was a little stuffy but if you want a more high-end business dinner could be a good fit. The server Tony was an excellent guide through the menu. Drinks were great. The pasta was a highlight and the burrata was one of the best burrata dishes I’ve ever had! Well done Valter’s!! Save room for dessert, the lemon gelato with sea salt and honey was incredible!!
We absolutely love Valter's. It's our favorite Italian restaurant. The food has fresh ingredients, which makes the dishes tasty and delicious. The staff are so friendly and the service is on another level. I will recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Let me start out by saying our server and the entire staff were very welcoming and attentive. What a great experience! Most items are cooked and either prepared or plated tableside, so everything is fresh and piping hot.
Here are some of the items we had/ordered:
Bruschetta (free): Tasty, although basic bruschetta. Nothing fancy. Would love to have a balsamic drizzle, but it's free. Can't complain too much.
Fresh baked bread, with olive oil based dipping sauce (free): So simple, but so delicious. This hit the spot.
Gnocchi with zesty tomato sauce: best gnocchi I've ever had. The sauce was very flavorful as well.
Lasagna: Generous portion, but lacked flavor. Still tasted good, but needed something more.
Spaghetti carbonara: this dish was excellent, super creamy and the pasta was cooked to perfection. Generous portions. I just wish they also offered shrimp with this dish.
Lemon gelato: this is crazy good if you like salty sweet and the taste of a lemon. Plenty to share after a large meal.
Triple layer chocolate mousse: really tasty, although probably not worth the $22 as of writing this.
Grattan Mariana Mocktail w/ peach and strawberry: OMG. Ha ha. So good.
Raspberry Italian soda: really great. Excellent flavor.
Absolutely fantastic experience here it was by all accounts amazing and delectable. Best lasagna I have ever tasted and so many good flavors in the pasta sampler.
They had an excellent wine and cocktail menu. The service was impeccable and the waiter so friendly and helpful. The only issue I had is I can get claustrophobic and the seating is a mite cramped, but I am sure I could have asked for more open seating when I made the reservation alas I did not. I am positive I will be visiting this lovely establishment again and again in the future, thank you for an unforgettable experience!!
This is a place for a special occasion dinner. A real culinary experience. Food is incredible. We had the pasta sampler, lasagna, Cesar salad made fresh at your table, and Pollo della casa. All of it was incredible. And save room for dessert.
Really enjoyed my visit and meal with a large group. The atmosphere was superb, service was impeccable and food was outstanding! Highly recommended!
First time at Valter's - Christmas company dinner. The restaurant is beautifully decorated for the holidays, reservations went smoothly, and our party was seated right away and was greeted warmly.
Had the privilege of being served by John. He was personable, and friendly, and gave us recommendations on the menu. The "magic" sauce they serve with the bread at the beginning of the course blew me away - what is in that sauce?! Normally I'm a "butter" gal with bread, but that sauce was a left hook - didn't know it was coming and it knocked my taste buds out of the park - seriously it was so good!
Cioppino was good as well as the pasta sampler - got to taste a bite or two of each of the most popular pasta dishes.
Exceptional food and service. The pasta sampler was glorious and the lemon Gelato with peaches was light and rich all at once. It was very loud because it is very popular. So it may not be the place to go if you're looking to have deep conversations.
