Our first visit was for dinner on a Friday night. We had reservations and were seated immediately. Our server, Jill, was very friendly and informative. She explained the daily specials and got us started with drinks. Our soups were housemade, fresh and hot. My wife had Italian wedding soup and I had the seafood bisque, which was excellent, rich and chunky. Salad was served family style with a very nice house Italian dressing. Our entries were excellent. My wife had butternut ravioli and I had seafood fra diavalo, with shrimp, clams, scallops, mussels and calamari. Jill was attentive to our needs even as the entire dining room filled up and they had a private party going on as well. Highly recommended to us and we highly recommend to you. We will be back!
We’ve been enjoying Grandpa Sam’s for 20 years and have never been disappointed. Truly a hidden gem of the Westside that rivals any traditional Italian cuisine in the Greater Rochester Area. Fresh ingredients, lovely atmosphere, and friendly service are staples of this intimate well-run restaurant. The expansion / renovation resolved the only issue they had ever experienced - not enough space to satisfy the demand.
Definitely not a chain restaurant. Always ample portions and a great value for the money. The only minor inconvenience is not having a full liquor license and only beer and wine, but they do offer some cocktails, but the real reason is you come for the food. I would recommend reservations but with their new expanded room they have ample seating.
Danielle took great care of us last night. We chatted, laughed, and had a delicious meal! While pricey, it's worth it for quality, local food right in the village. Try the pomodoro sauce- you will NOT be disappointed! The homemade desserts are to die for! I tried a special Nutella mousse- it came in a champagne flute and was layers upon layers of chocolate goodness. (Dear owner, if you see this, PLEASE put it on the menu!!)
The atmosphere is lovely. It was a Wednesday night, there were several tables, and all of us got the undivided attention that made everyone's experience enjoyable. The place is nice- not too fancy and WAYYYYY better than olive garden (though I'm guilty of enjoying their bread sticks once in a while). The bread with dipping oil here was delicious, soft, warm, fresh and with good REAL Italian olive oil. The dressing on the house salad (salad and bread come with every meal) was tangy and delicious!
Overall, you have to check this place out at least once. It's not everyones cup of tea, but it sure was ours and we will be back again soon!
We went to dinner here and it was so good! First time and I will for sure go back. The service was amazing no wait for a Friday at primetime. Food was really really good also!
Great food! I had the Seafood Fra Diablo. It was awesome! Nice & spicy! We were there on a Sunday night. You need reservations. Very busy and noisy.
Grampa's Sampler and the other one has tons of clams!!!
i also suggest to spend some time at the bar, the bartender was nice and they have a wide range of drinks to choose from
Me and the wife visited here for Valentines day. We started with a bottle of Kendall Jackson's chardonnay, I liked the Italian salad dressing and bread was great. She ordered the chicken parm and I got the chicken saltibocca. The waitress was great and she paid attention to detail. This is definitely one of the best Italian restaurants.
Everything was wonderful. Soup, salad, bread, wine, entrees and service! Had to get a cannoli to go because I was too full, but couldn't pass it up.
The interior is a little old fashioned, but really no complaints.
Been wanting to go for YEARS & was not disappointed!!
Went here. All desserts are home made and delicious! Great portions sizes. Friendly staff and managers. I got the shrimp Alfredo with broccoli and macaroons for dessert
