Great Value. Mel's is literally only open six hours a week: Friday and Saturday from 11-2. I had the bbq pork sandwich. It was a large portion and it was amazing. I tried the potato salad for a side; it was good, but the sandwich stole the show.
A sandwich is a mere $3 and a plate with sides is $6. I will definitely visit Mel's again soon.

Best BBQ in Wake County. I have eaten at Mel's several times and every time has been excellent. It's amazing to me that he serves a Jumbo BBQ sandwich with his homemade cole slaw for $3.00 and a BBQ plate (pork or chicken) for $6.00. These are true southern folks with a down home friendly attitude. It ain't just me that loves Mel's, ask anybody that is familiar with his food and they'll tell you that Mel's has the best.
Wonderful BBQ, the proverbial definition of a hole in the wall establishment. What it lacks in decor is amply made up in southern charm a delicious food. Simple menu with a clear focus on what they know how to do well. As a bonus you can purchase free range eggs and other oddities. Carry out or outdoor tables are provided.
This is the best NC BBQ I have ever had. The BBQ itself was absolutely perfect, the sauce was amazing, and sides were great, too. The prices are awesome, and the platters are huge. New weekend tradition!
You can call me Donna, I am a taxi driver in Raleigh nc. I have passed this place a million times at night, but never in the day. I was lucky enough to catch them open today!😁 The food was great, but the people were so funny, and nice. Great place!! 5☆☆☆☆☆'s
My friend loved their bbq pork and their dessert of the week, a brownie with hershey bars baked in, was excellent. The owners are super nice, and we spent for $20 three people.
Great food. My only regret was they had just sold out of Mel's bottled BBQ sauce, but they promised it would be back in the grocery stores.
Mel's is one of the best kept secrets in Raleigh. You should plan a visit soon, you will not be disappointed
