Great new African Fashion exhibit with a local Black artists exhibit. It was well put together with a combination of provocative pieces in each. Love the staff and always happy to support art.
I have had the opportunity to visit this museum multiple times, and I must say it is great. However, it is worth noting that certain sections of the museum are currently undergoing renovations.
With that being said, if you're an animation enthusiast, make sure not to miss the Crafting Pinocchio exhibition. It provided me with a deeper understanding of the intricate process and the tremendous effort invested by the team in bringing this movie to life. It is one of my most favorite exhibitions! There are also some related events, check them out.
Fantastic walk through experience. Making Pinocchio was fascinating, still life galleries kept me enthralled for hours, and a good variety of pieces in these collections.
PAM does feel pretty small for a city the size of Portland. Though I visited the museum during exhibit changing and moving so at least 2 spaces were closed.
Toured the Guillermo del Toro exhibit today. ❤️ loved it! Lots of sets, behind the scenes information, tearing the animation into parts, and describing how it's made. We really enjoyed our visit.
It's a wonderful museum with a great exhibit going on right now on Black art. A definite worthwhile visit while you're in Portland.
We went to the Black Artists of Oregon exhibit. The artwork was breathtaking, raw, and deeply touching. I highly recommend this exhibit.
Several significant sections of the museum were closed off either due to construction or exhibit changes, but still probably worth the price of entry. It's a small but extremely well-varied collection including everything from ancient Native American art to famous impressionists to modern art including pieces produced by active, contemporary artists with the last few years. We spent about two hours to appreciate everything on display, but some art lovers may need to budget a bit more depending on their viewing pace.
Such an awesome museum! Even the park across the museum is chill! Multiple floors to take in all the art and its divided into different floors on different building with an underground walkway to the areas. The special art was from Guillermo del Toro and his Pinocchio film which was amazing seeing how intricate it was made.
They had a Pinocchio special exhibit, highlighting portlands contributions to this Oscar winning netflix film. Was done very well.
The regular collection is small but has a number of impressionist paintings worth a view if already there.
Went specifically for the Guillermo del Toro "Pinocchio" exhibit. Which was well worth the price of admission. And a really big deal for the art and artists who brought this movie to the world.
The museum itself is going through some renovations and a bit...in flux. But I did get to see a quite a few paintings, both old and new. Elevators make it accessible. The museum is light, airy and spacious with plenty of benches!! Gift shop is exemplary!!! It was my first visit. I'm glad I went!!
