Celebrated a 50th anniversary at the restaurant and we weren't disappointed. The atmosphere is amazing with the ornate decor to the beautiful woodwork. The restaurant was super clean and well maintained. The entire meal was delicious and the cocktails were nicely crafted. I had the beef braciole with their homemade raviolis. It was very good....I look forward to going back. If you were in the area you should definitely check it out. Also, please if you like my review give me a thumbs up and on my pictures too. This iconic South Philly gem serves classic Italian dishes that are invariably delicious. The decor is rich. From dark paneling, stained glass windows, fascinating wall art, antiques and eclectic signage, the place is reminiscent of a bygone era. The staff could not be more professional or attentive, and the menu is diverse and supplemented with daily specials. A real treat and blast from the past. (I took my wife here on our first dateAS college students some 47 years ago. We reprised that occasion just recently.)
Excellent dinner with attentive service. The tuna special was peppercorn crusted yellow fin tuna with balsamic and chopped tomatoes. The tuna was sliced with a side of spinach. Flavorful and tender. Chicken Melanzana along with the veal chop Milanese were hits too. The gnocchi with marinara sauce were firm and filling. Good size portions. Lovely atmosphere and the noise level was reasonable. Able to have a conversation around the table. The dessert options looked great but everyone was full. A reliable establishment.
There have been a number of people we know who raved about the Saloon and now we know why. This was a top-notch dining experience from start until finish. The evening started with being welcomed by a pleasant valet attendant who greeted me with a warm smile, he was very friendly. Once in the restaurant I was impressed by the beautiful decor and staff who could all double as Instagram models - my wife said that our server may be the prettiest server she’s ever seen. Then came out fantastic food! Each dish was an A++!! We will definitely be back to enjoy another wonderful evening at the Saloon.
Nice white table Italian restaurant, the food was amazing, especially the octopus salad. But when it comes to drinks, both were a little disappointing. I’ll only come back for the delicious food! Pricy but worth it!
Service was great. Restaurant is nice. Old but preserved building. Had the left side of appetizer menu and it was delicious. NY Strip with spinach and mashed potatoes were delectable. Tiramisu and 1942 to finish. All in all, a great outing. Recommend to everyone.
This is our favorite place to celebrate special events in our lives. Last night was our wedding anniversary and we have enjoyed many here at the Saloon. Amy was our server and was everything you would expect here for a fabulous evening! As usual the food was exceptional. Can't wait to return!
Came here for very important person in my life’s birthday. It was restaurant that we hadn’t come across after having probably passed it a lot of times while walking by in the area. It’s quite odd we never saw it, because they even have a couple of parking lots along the Avenue. Anyhow, it was a wonderful time. The homemade pesto and bread was wonderful, and we both enjoyed the main dishes. Our server Frankie was very friendly and accommodating. He had a great knowledge of the menu. This is definitely a wonderful place to check out if you’re in the area. I do want to add that I especially look for atmospheres that are comfortable and energetically safe. I felt very cozy and at home here.
Phenomenal. You will drop some coin here, but it's worth it. Unique antiques and artistic treasures adorn the walls. The service is outstanding, and the servers are picked from the Victoria's secret runway, but with cute South Philly accents. The dishes are classic Italian. You can't go wrong with any veal entree. Try the Clams Parm app(better than the Casino)-it's outstanding. Go L'Angostino or go home. Free valet parking. Meengia.
My husband and I had an excellent dinner at the Saloon last PM. We started off with “The Sampler”, Poblano Stuffed Peppers, Clams Casino, Clams Pavorotti, and Langostinos. This was a fabulous appetizer! For dinner, my husband had Veal Parm with the best homemade raviolis ever! I had the Lobster Francaise, with Broccoli Rabe, Beans and Sausage. Our cocktails were spot on and OMG, I almost forgot to mention the bread and pesto. The pesto is homemade and hands down the best I’ve ever had aside from my future daughter in law’s This Resturant is a “must visit” when we are in the city.
I have to give a shout out to our server Amy. She was so sweet, kind and beautiful. She not only remembered serving us 3 weeks ago when we dined there but she knew exactly what we had including our drinks. Now that’s impressive!! She knows the menu well and when she goes over the specials with you she describes them in such a way that you want to have one of each. Thank you Amy for your excel, ent service and we look forward to seeing you again soon.
