Had never enjoyed Bakersfield prior to my son recommending it during a recent visit to Mass Ave. He gave my wife and a “heads up” on how good the Mexican (some say TexMex) food is at Bakersfield, regardless of how it’s labeled, he was so right. Forget about your usual south of the border restaurants, and there’s a ton of them. The food and drink selections at Bakersfield are prepared in a manner that’s a cut above all the rest. Friendly, prompt staff top the experience off. I’ve heard a rumor that they’re considering opening a north side Indianapolis location - sure hope so as that will make our stops to enjoy Bakersfield even more frequent. Great place!!

I liked it. Good Mexican cuisine with a flair. However, I do think the tacos are overpriced. They're quite delicious and flavorful, but small and something you will not fill up on unless you eat 3-4. Great place to go with friends for drinks and sharing plates. Haven't tried anything I didn't like.

Love this place!. The food is good and fresh. The salsa and sauce are unique. I constantly crave the tacos. Only con is noise level. Nothing absorbs the sound so people yell to be heard.

This place is hit or miss with me. It can get easily crowded, and is very much a "hipster bar". With that being said, I enjoy going during non-peak times. It's great for a margarita on a Sunday afternoon when things are less crowded and less chaotic. To me, their food comes in small, overpriced, portions. So I typically eat before I go. But definitely a good place to hang out and grab some drinks!

It was being on vacation.. Bakersfield is so very different than most places in Indianapolis. The wait staff and manager were friendly, trained and informed. The atmosphere was fun but not to young to throw this 60 + couple off. The menu was different and the food very good. The patio area is very clever and where the day a tiny bit cooler - we would have sat out there.

As we left Bakersfield I told my husband that I felt like I had been on a mini vacation! Heck, we finally figured out the parking meters too. Get day!

Another great Bakersfield. Coming from Cincy I had to visit the one in Indy when in town, and it didnt disappoint, its larger than the one in Cincinnati but the food and atmosphere are just as good, best Guac ever, great Margaritas too. We stood outside on the patio which was great as it was packed inside and the evening was nice and warm and there was a great atmosphere out there. Will be back to both locations

Bakersfield, a.k.a. Rent a Bowl for Three Dollars... Please explain to me how I was just charged for 2 orders of chips and salsa. The salsa is on the table, the chip refills are free, and the waitress explained that the double charge was legit because THEY BROUGHT OUT A BOWL OF SALSA WITH THE CHIPS...the same salsa that's in a squirt bottle on the table. That's right, folks, I was charged an additional $3 to rent a second bowl. Had I kept the same bowl from the first time she brought out the chips and just refilled it from the bottle on the table, the second charge wouldn't have happened. Ugh. The tacos are great, though. The service? Well...

Beautiful decor, excellent service, inexpensive & creative food. Plus good craft beer and a mile long list of tequilas to choose from. The short rib tacos were really, really good. 2 filled me up and at $4/ea, they are very reasonable. Killer guacamole also.

Not sure what all the negative reviews of the food are about. The short rib tacos/torta, guacamole and queso are all great. Their margaritas are really good too. It's usually packed but it's a fun place to hang out in a great location on Mass Ave. One of my favorite bars/restaurants in the city.

My review is based on the food, which I thought was terrible. Tacos were bland and overpriced and what's up with the queso??? On the other hand, I really enjoyed the margaritas and had fun hanging out. Hip and popular place so will probably be back, but not for the food.

Our team had a dinner outing and it was a great choice. Bakersfield was excellent for a fun and energetic atmosphere with efficient and friendly staff. We were able to talk, laugh, and have a good time sharing stories over chips and guacamole, salsa, and finally some very delicious tacos. I had 3 tacos which were sufficient and satisfying. The Baja Shrimp were my favorite because of the tasty and crunchy shrimp. I did have a pollo verde taco which was good as well. I highly recommend the tacos and visiting for an intimate small couple outing or a larger group. Thanks Bakersfield.

Went there for a dbl date couples night... our friends we were with recommended it we walked there from pin mechanics. It was cool outside we had a 45 min wait while waiting our friend ordered the 🍍 margaritas 🍹 I don't drink so I can't too much review it myself but taking it from them & my fiancé I guess you can say that's one of the places that serves the best 🍍 margaritas. We went inside the atmosphere was coo, it was a little hot & stuffy so I asked if they could open the window we were sitting by & they did even the host said "it feels the same out there as it does in here" we all laughed at it but it brought a nice cool breeze thru. Food came out fast I ordered the chicken taquitos they were decent, didn't care too much for the sauce, but it was still really good. I ordered the esquites the corn salad & I was a little disappointed in that, I didn't like the flavor too much but they were nice enough to take it off... we also ordered the full queso dip w the braised short ribs(BEEF) I can say that there queso dip with and without the beef was really good! Everyone got different tacos and nobody complained about it so i take it they were good. Would suggest ordering more than one since they are small. But it is a place I would recommend & revisit.

Great spot for a margarita and tacos. The pineapple margarita was delicious and strong, and the tacos had a ton of flavor. I suggest ordering at least two if you’re hungry. Maybe even order the queso which comes out steaming hot.

Great selection of cocktails and very affordable considering the quality you’re getting. Vibrant atmosphere and our server Rokey is an absolutely amazing server. He made us tasty cocktails and keep us entertained. Will definitely come back soon.

Shout out to bartender Joe, waitress Rachel, and host Laura for awesome service!! First time here and everyone was so nice. Rachel did a great job explaining the menu to us newbies. We had a pitcher of the seasonal margarita (lemon mint) which was very satisfying.

Love the atmosphere! Sat outside and it’s a cool vibe. The waiter was pleasant and knowledgeable and warned me about the heat of the Pollo Diablo taco yet we were up for the challenge. Did not disappoint! Washed it down with a spicy pineapple margarita and some mildness from the fresh guacamole and the pollo verde and carnitas tacos… I have had street tacos in various authentic locations and I would definitely recommend Bakersfield for tacos in Indy! Thanks for giving us a great all-around experience on this Sunday afternoon!

I haven’t been to Bakersfield in years and our server Sunshine was amazing! I’m visiting from out of town and she was so kind and attentive while she was helping us. We were a pretty demanding group and she did not complain and was on top of it! I’ll def be back and ask for Sunshine.

Ask for Rokey he was an amazing server with great service and lots of patience. Chelsea was a compassionate host that helped seat us in a better location due to a disability. Brittany is a positive example of great leadership!

10/29/23-My cousins were in town, we had lunch at Bakersfield prior to going to airport. The food was excellent, street tacos, the trio, were all great. Drinks were great. Our server Laura really made our lunch 5 star with her attentiveness. The combination of the food and staff like Laura guarantees I will be back, and recommend others.
