Traditional American breakfast diner with FANTASTIC atmosphere & reasonable/affordable prices 🙂 Great food, good staff & service!!! 💖 Definitely the #1 on my list & my fav breakfast place to go when in downtown Houston!! 🙆🏻😋👍🏻😻
Perfect place for lunch during the week. Walk in, sit where you want and the quick service instantly hits you. Tell them what you want and it'll be on your table in 2-3 minutes. Good food and big portions. Recently remodeled, had never been here before the remodel bit I do know the place looks great. Highly recommend.
Great home cooking! Pleasant staff! Love the remodel!
This was a jury duty lunch break. The chicken fried steak was best in years, very flavorful, the white gravy was not hot or good, and I was glad it was on the side. The mashed potatoes and brown gravy were too cool, but, fresh and were good, after being heated. The greens bread were good and fresh. There were some nice dishes on the menu that I will come back with my wife and try.
Was pleasantly surprised with this place when I walked in. Came here with a friend for lunch and enjoyed our experience. The lunch specials were nice, and there was plenty to choose from. I would definitely recommend coming here to try it out. The ambiance of this place is definitely welcoming. Good place for a date, for sure.
Review scores are relative. The Avenue Grill is very good for what it is, a old fashioned family restaurant that used to be more common in working class neighborhoods and small towns when people needed to eat close to where they worked. And before fast food chains had sprung up everywhere.
It reminds me of the places I used to eat in the 70's when working on the east side of town. The food is traditional American and included pork chops, fried catfish, meatloaf, etc. The atmosphere is what you would want from a restaurant of this type that has survived the decades, authentic, clean, efficient and decidedly un-modern. The staff and patrons are very friendly. Sit at the counter and someone will strike up a conversation.
On my weekday lunch visit, it was full of regulars and jurors who, like myself, had walked over from the city court. The food was good, traditional fare with serving portions were too large for a sedentary juror but probably right for a working man who is in motion all day. The meal left me satisfied and the companionship recharged me from the fatigue of waiting to be called for a trial.
This was our first time back to Avenue Grill after being out of town for seven years. Wow! What a difference. The entire place has been updated to a modern vibe Industrial feel. Food was good. Waitress said they'll be opening up for dinner as well as serving drinks in the near future. Definitely worth checking out.
The food, service and atmosphere were amazing. Great place. My only complaint is that two waitresses literally got into a yelling Mach right in front of us and went we clearly showed our discomfort it continued even as she was checking us out :( A+++ place ruined by employees.
Its a super old fashioned hole in the wall kinda place. Its cute. My husband and I had breakfast there on the weekend. Service was fantastic. The food was decent..my only complaint was the bacon was WAY too soggy and greasy. It was making me sick so I gave it to my husband (he eats just about anything lol!)
ZAGAT doesn't have a clue to great food or service! Avenue Grill is truly a one of a kind Americana Style Diner with homemade style cooking. A great place to eat without the long wait. I have eaten here dozens of times with close friends, family and clients. Never, have I had a bad meal. Service is always excellent! Priced right menu with selection and freshness uncompromised!
