We made reservations to eat dinner at the bar. Chris, the bartender, was busy with a full bar, but he made sure our needs were met.
The food was delicious! I had the ribeye with a lobster tail. My wife had the salmon. For dessert I had the peanut butter cup. Everything was cooked perfectly and was very tasty!
We will definitely come back again when we are in the area.
I do recommend making a reservation.
Top Notch everything ....we vacationing at HHI for babes 💕 birthday 🎂 🥳 weekend . While shopping...we decided to get some ice cream at Kilwins ...met a gentleman & his ex wife & their children (amazing family) but they referred us to Cranes ....& hey 👋🏽 Cranes delivered superbly ....everything on point & beyond
Trying this restaurant out for the first time. The wine selection is great! The Moscato was definitely good. The Prime Rib was cooked to order with good flavor overall. The salmon had a maple Dijon flavor with a breaded crust. Exquisite taste that was not too overpowering. Kelly was our server and was attentive and a pleasure. High recommend...will definitely come again.
What a great dinner we just had. We had reservations (Highly recommend) and were seated promptly upon arrival. Our server Jerri was so sweet and very knowledgeable of the menu choices. She was attentive and made sure all our needs were meet.
I got the 10oz Filet, mom got the 6oz Filet and dad got the 16oz Prime Rib. All were cooked to perfection and the sides were fresh and well prepared.
We will definitely be returning on future visits to the island. Thanks again Crane's and your excellent staff.
I reserved a table for 8 golfers, and it was the best meal we had on the trip. Service was fantastic, food was excellent, wine selection was great, and EVERYONE in my group was talking about their meal at Crane's the entire golf trip. I will definitely be back next time I am in Hilton Head again.
Crane’s Tavern remain our favorite on HHI for steaks. Beautiful intimate restaurant with friendly staff and many menu options. Great spot to celebrate birthday or anniversary.
This hidden gem doesn't look very fancy on the outside but, the inside is truly where it counts! Beautiful white table linens, various bottles of wine and well mannered staff awaits you as you enter. By far the best steak I have ever eaten as well as their house made scalloped potatoes. The cheese curds with their special bacon jam is a must try. Highly recommend visiting!

While vacationing in South Carolina, we were looking for a good steak house to have dinner. Crane's was rated well, and I concur. This place gets a five star rating for the food, which was absolutely delicious. Everything we had was fantastic: french onion soup, seafood bisque, filet mignon, prime rib, fried apple pue, and pumpkin cheesecake. The meat, which was the focal point of our trip to this place, was outstanding, and cooked exactly to our liking. The place is on the small side, with dark wood, white tablecloths, and stacks of filled wine racks all over, giving it an old world charm. This place is a little out of the way, but worth the trip!
Went to dinner with family. Server discussed the specials and that the Soup of the day was a tortilla soup. "Did you say tortilla soup? Yes, tortilla soup". Reviewed if the special could be made without shrimp or if it was integral to the dish and not possible to remove it. We let the server know we have two people allergic to shrimp and other shellfish.
The allergic people each get the tortilla soup - it arrives with a wonderful deep red color and what might be chunks of cheese? - first bite of said cheese and no... That's crab. Ask the waiter if that is crab and "yes, tortilla soup with crab". Well two of us are allergic to shellfish, which is why we asked before ordering and brought it up. "Well I said it. That's why it's important to listen to these things". Important to listen...I'm sorry sir but there are 6 full grown adults with perfectly fine hearing and 2 who are keen on hearing about shellfish being part of a dish You didn't say anything about crab in the soup. Not once.
I'm not saying this server should fall on a sword or anything. Take part of the blame as should the diner - but to blame the diner for not listening to something you didn't say? To be condescending? Are you serious? If it weren't an automatic 20% tip he'd be hard pressed to get 5%. He did return with two soups without the crab. That should have been the solution with an apology considering 2 people expressed shellfish allergies. Poor form by that server.
The soup was quite good. But who the hell puts crab in tortilla soup in the first place?
Their steaks were cooked perfectly, nicely chatted. The halibut special was raved about.
He also screwed up an order for tea by bringing coffee. Only one person ordered tea. It shouldn't have been difficult.
And their AC is in desperate need of repair or replacement. The small fan in the corner near our table didn't do much to stop you from sweating bullets before the AC kicked on again.
For the price... The service and AC need work.
We THOROUGHLY enjoyed our date night here, and we will most definitely be back... and we'll be sure to make a reservation! I can see why it's so popular. Gerry was a friendly server who helped me choose the haddock dish that was delicious... but next time I'll save more room for dessert. The fried apple pie and peanut butter cup.. wow! Not only was the food delicious, the service was kind, the environment was perfect for our romantic date night as well. Love this place! Thank you, Crane's! See you again soon!
