This was the coolest place I have been too in a long time. The atmosphere was so relaxed and the workers were so sweet and chill. The peaches in cream alcoholic milkshake was to die for! Defiantly going back soon.

Charming eclectic, if not magical, atmosphere. Friendly beautiful staff. Conveniently located on Ludlow in Clifton's gorgeous Gaslight district. The coffee and Chai tea were to die for!

The hipster ambiance with most walls painted with Edith Piaf quotes and pictures is very welcoming in itself.
Loved their service and most of the food and drinks served were excellent.
Ironically the bummer was the regular latte which can't really match the Starbucks level.
They have a funny little quote saying- Friends, stop your friends from going to Starbucks.
The other stuff we ordered- a Milky Way smoothie, New York egg sandwich and a turkey sandwich were all top notch!
I'm going back.

I've been to Sitwell's once before, but this is my first time reviewing it.

This place is hella cool. It's an old school type coffee house with so many goodies that you simply wouldn't be able to take it all in at once..

..in fact, for a coffee house, I'm thinking there might be a bit too much going on with the menu, and that might contribute to what some other reviews consider a ding against the service. If they feel they can handle it with their staff, then more power to them, but their menu reminds me of the one at Panera sans the coffee and liquor.

The atmosphere is nice. Tables spread out pretty well and good comfortable seating. It wasn't that crowded when we were there.

Our server was nice enough, but she was hella serious about the whole thing and didn't smile once, and she was a cute girl. I don't expect women to smile and be nice just because a guy says so, but I expect my hostess at a restaurant or coffee house to at least fake the funk and not be a humorless troll. And me and my friend did our best to engage with humor and smiles. Sucka.

She had "The Best BLT Ever", and when we asked the server "is this really the best BLT ever...?" Crickets. *sigh* Well I must say that BLT looked good and have TONS of bacon on it, of which she make quick work. No thanks to smiley the server's sterling recommendation.

Anyhow, I had the Hungarian Meatloaf Sandwich. That sucka wasn't even warm or hot. I mean, it was tasty. My friend asked, "maybe it wasn't supposed to be hot..." What? "..ask the server if that was the way it was supposed to be prepared". No thanks. I ain't asking her jack, as I'm sure she probably didn't know. Anyhow, it was lukewarm, albeit tasty meatloaf on wheat toast. I asked for Worcestershire sauce on the side. They spread it on the sandwich anyhow. Sheesh.

Both of our entrees had a tasty mix of dark greens, which was impressive. Even the tomatoes were good, and I'm not usually down with tomatoes on any sandwich.

I did dig the "Splasher" beverage though. Very unique and tasty.

Check out Sitwell's if you're in Clifton. It's a good bet.

Weird place, clutter everywhere, doesn't really feel like a place to eat. Feels like a mueseum showcasing worthless crap nobody wants to see. I look up from the table I'm sitting at and there's a light ballast hanging on the wall. Why is there a light ballast? There was a very nutty woman in there as well. I'm guessing the owner, but I can't imagine that hot mess being able to run a business. She was busy pestering a couple that was obviously annoyed and wanted her gone. I was hoping she wouldn't come my way. This place is weird and funny. I think it would be a good time to go with friends and just people watch. The food and coffee was quite tasty so i'll be back.

My second home.... It took me awhile to make Sitwells a part of me, though I would look longingly through the windows and remember the days when I was younger and living in my beloved Clifton. I felt older now compared to what I thought was a young crowd; but I was wrong. The clientelle are actually quite diverse and the place is SO welcoming that it has become my second home. You will be very comfortble. I often go there for a great breakfast and kickass coffee or espresso. I stop in some afternoons for a bracer or beer at their little bar. Lately my wife and I have started going for a bite and a beer on the evenings they have music, our favorite is the gypsy jazz of the Faux Frenchmen on Wednesdays. Sitwells prices are reasonable for the quality and amount of food you get from their eclectic menu. The bathrooms lock and are very clean. They often utilize only one server for the room but I've never had to wait long, of course I'm never in a hurry either (there are fast food places for those people). I almost hesitate to sing the praises of this great little place lest it get crowded; but we love it. See you there.

My Grandma moves faster than you and she's dead!. SLOW SERVICE!!! SLOWER THAN MOLASSES IN JANUARY! The sandwiches are good but be prepared to wait at least 30-45 minutes!

Where Everybody Knows Your Name. I have been going to Sitwell's for almost six years now, & there is no place like it in the city. It's a real, European style coffeehouse like you will find on any cute little Rue de Whatever in Paris. You can get coffee drinks, beer, wine, booze, & order food off the small, eclectic menu.

The food I've had is good-I like the Briemato Sandwich on croissant, the NY egg sandwich, the Sunday-only Belgian waffle w/toppings, & the gouda-avocado melt. If you order a cognac, often Lisa (the owner) will warm it for you to release its other flavors. They offer vegan baked goods & also breads made by local bakers.

The music on the stereo is conducive to conversation & working, & many evenings the cafe features local & touring bands & singer/songwriters for your listening pleasure. I don't always love the music, but I like that there is almost always something going on at Sitwell's.

Clearly, locals appreciate what Sitwell's has to offer, too. It's often busy, but I can either find an empty table or share one because someone invites me to sit down. I've spent afternoons there watching people move through, chatting, laughing, and sometimes shouting across tables to others. The library it aint, but then neither is that cafe in Paris that we all find so charming.

I find some of the vitriolic reviewers here to be inappropriate, dwelling far too much on their opinion of the owner & too little on the place & its menu & service. Not once in 6 years have I seen a cockroach at Sitwell's, & while it doesn't have the kind of antiseptic/streamlined ambiances of corporatized coffee places to be found everywhere, I would not say Sitwell's is dirty or unsanitary or anything else. Cluttered, maybe, but that's the aesthetic at Sitwell's. I think of it as "Art Decoco".

Being a 6-year patron of Sitwell's, here's what I think to be its biggest weakness: the plain old coffee. The lattes? Love them, every bit as good as Coffee Emporium's (my favorite latte in town). The decaf is top drawer. But every time I order a house coffee I can barely drink it. I don't know why it tastes so bad to me, but it does. Since I love the lattes, I just order those, or a decaf.

The staff have always seemed friendly to me, whether or not the service is on the spot. No, the service is not always stellar. But, since it's a neighborhood kind of place, if I need something & no one comes to wait on me at my table, I just go up to the counter, ask for whatever I need, and I always get it. I did that at Paris cafes, too.

The hateful comments directed at the owner seem rather suspect to me, I have to say. Some of the "reviewers" seem to know a bit much about her business & relationships, enough that I wonder if at least some of them are not disgruntled former employees. I did notice for a couple of years or so that the owner seemed to be hiring people who perhaps did not have any service industry experience, and some of them never seemed to get the hang of it.

From a few things I heard here & there, it seemed that Lisa hired some people that needed a job and that she felt sorry for. If that is the case, her good deeds did not go unpunished! And as far as good deeds go, I know that for years Lisa ran a free neighborhood Thanksgiving potluck dinner at the old Sitwells, & that she also ran an ad hoc women's shelter out of her very own home. She has "walked the walk" in a way none of the below self-appointed judges would ever think of. Lisa is colorful & she is a voluble extrovert. Sometimes she is loud. Sometimes other people are loud, not to mention inappropriate, and they are ejected from Sitwells (as they should be). Sitwell's is a true neighborhood cultural treasure, run by people with real lives that are entwined pretty deeply with the diversity (& funkiness, with emphasis on _funk_) of the Cincinnati community. This is why this place is still going so strong after so many years. I say long live Sitwell's, plain & simple.

GREAT CREW, FOOD AND BREWS!!!. I have visited Sitwell's several times over the past few years. I have never had a bad experience. This a great place for a first date, to meet friends out, experience new music or just get some homework done. Yes, the service is a little slow but it is modeled after a classic European coffee house. You are there to chill and they have created a great atmosphere for that purpose.

I feel the pricing is fair considering the quality of food, not to mention they support the community by purchasing goods locally! Their menu has something on it for everyone with any kind of diet. They also feature many different types of coffee that you can even buy by the bag!

I have watched the staff change several times. Those who are not cutting it do get kicked around a bit but I'm sure they deserved it. The good ones are still there. Yes, the owner can be a little eccentric at times but with out that kind of energy Sitwell's would not be as unique and charming as it is today.

I highly recommend this place if you have time to sit and smell the coffee!

Not surprised by other reviews!. Surprised as well I've never written a review of Sitwell's. My wife and I are by no means regulars however we patronize Sitwell's several times a year and have been doing so for some time. We go back because the sandwiches I've highlighted in the photos are two of our all time favorites IN THE CITY! Their offerings while a bit eclectic are all freshly prepared and very consistent. We have never had a bad meal (food wise) at Sitwell's.

Service though is the exact opposite. We have been there when it is nearly empty (just last week for lunch) as well as bursting at the seams. During off hours the service is expectedly casual but prompt and friendly. However, when it's busy the service unfortunately suffers drastically. The servers themselves are very nice just too few and simply unable to keep up with demand. Their frustrations are obvious and sometimes misplaced. The food line behind the counter appears to be cluttered and inefficient thus wait times for food can be annoyingly long. The owner is, nicely put, abrasive at best and should either be avoided or ignored.

Should you avoid Sitwell's all-together? No! They have a wonderful selection of coffee's and libations and some unique coffeehouse fare. My suggestion would be to visit before or after lunch or before the dinner rush. If it is busy and your not in a rush to catch a movie at the Esquire be patient or skip on down to any other of the wonderful places along Ludlow Avenue. Enjoy!

Conflicted. I'd hate to give this place a bad review, because the people who have worked there for so long I really like. I also like the BigAss Pita, late hours, and spiked iced coffee. I just really really don't like the management, which sucks because the concept is so great- like the rotating artwork each month, and I know that they must be in charge of that. It just seems so hostile when the owner or her daughter is around.

Been Busy For Beans. I have grown up in the coffee houses of different countries and this is the most European feeling, warm space. I did like it much better in the basement of the old "Cove" but even on the sunny sided streets, it has filled my need for the distant cafe's of the Old Country. Now, i know bad service, but I have always been served at an acceptable pace by friendly servers eager to do right by me. There is only one server for the whole floor, so I always try to take that into consideration. As for the owner, i don't know her personally but she is always filled with interesting stories about her adventures in Poland and such, as she brings beverages to the street scape artists. It is also pretty cool that they have live music and events... All in all I give it a 8.7

Great vibes and affordable food. Coffee has very thick luxurious foam. And a great flavor profile. Espresso may have been a little under extracted, but I’d need to judge their beans first before truly knowing. But I’d say it’s a fair shake for a great latte. I’ll definitely be back and update as I learn more.

I heard about this place in Cincinnati that had good vegan food. 2 hours later...yes it was very good. The vegan banana muffin was mouth watering, wildberry smoothie good. Hummus pita excellent and beyond burger I added avocado that was superb. Yes it was worth the 2 hour drive. I will be back.Thank you.

Sitwell's is a great place for a bite to eat, a cup of coffee, or a classic cocktail. They also host an open-mic night on Tuesdays, which is a fantastic time to listen to other's stories and songs and share your own too (should you feel so inclined).

A quirky coffee shop with excellent coffee and excellent food! The quiche and the empanadas were fantastic. Seems a bit understaffed right now and you might need to wait for your order, but it’s definitely worth it! A great coffeehouse to stop by while you’re in Clifton.

Best of both coffeehouses - locally sourced btw - and vegan-friendly restaurants in Gaslight Clifton (and beyond). The vibe is chill, the decor is artsy and awesome, and the food and drinks are even better. My favorites are the quiche, empanadas, Beyond Burger, and vegan pastries. Besides hot and iced coffee, I also like their teas and frappes. Oh yeah, they also serve some adult beverages. You can dine in at the counter, tables for 2-4 plus a couple of lounge-like areas. There's free WiFi access and ample outlets to power your devices if you're dining while studying / working.

I am from out of town and stopped here on a whim to grab coffee. I absolutely loved this place! Very unique vibe, great lattes. Lots of cool art and things to look at. Staff was very pleasant and service was quick and easy. I got the Caprese sandwich and the focaccia was so yummy, pesto was delicious, and tomatoes were fresh. Lots of vegan/vegetarian options. They also have very cool bathrooms!

Fives across the board! My hot apple cider was so delicious I actually called them 20 mins after I left to make sure I let them know the quality of product and service is greatly appreciated! Never a bad experience. Keep up the great work!
