My boyfriend and I are from out of town and I 10/10 recommend. Menu is super easy to navigate and the choices are amazing. The whole vibe of the restaurant is fantastic. If we ever come back to cincy we will definitely be back!
Yes best sushi and the mimbibob was awesome try the sunday morning deep fried sushi im hooked
Decent Lunch Spot. I enjoy their sushi and ahi tuna salad for lunch.
Sushi place downtown that gets the fundamentals very right. I've been to Mr. Sushi for dinner probably five or six times now, and every time without exception it's been a great meal. While I'm not a huge sushi expert by any means, I can say the seafood I've had there has consistently tasted very fresh, and the chef does a fantastic job ensuring tasty ingredients and attractive presentation. Generally I get one of the rolls and a piece or two of sashimi (if you get up to a certain amount, they include a salad and miso soup). I'd call the prices mid-range in general, and the quality of the food is worth every penny.
My girlfriend is a little less adventurous and usually gets non-sushi dishes like the hibachi shrimp, kalbi, or teriyaki chicken, and she's enjoyed them; the bit of the kalbi I got to try was delicious. The preset meals on the menu seem a little expensive, although the portions are kind of big--if you're going to a show after dinner or are otherwise unable to bring home the leftovers, that might be good to keep in mind. Ordering rolls and pieces individually is more flexible and seems to work better if you're there for the sushi.
Whenever I've gone, the servers have been very friendly, prompt, and unobtrusive; they were knowledgeable about the menu and were able to give us some good sake recommendations. The atmosphere is kind of hip but subdued; there are televisions above the sushi bar with sports on, and it's easy to hold a comfortable conversation across the table and be heard. There are usually a few people there, but the only time I've seen it really crowded is during the lunch rush.
I'm sure people who eat sushi more often than I do have their favorite places and can speak to how one is better than the other, but as far as I'm concerned, Mr. Sushi holds up to any sushi bar I've visited, and I'd gladly recommend it as a dinner or nighttime-snack spot downtown.
CONVENIENT LOCATION. This place has decent sushi and some other dishes you can't find anywhere else I've seen. My preferred sushi restaurant of choice is "Cloud Nine Sushi" in Mt. Lookout, formerly "Dancing Wasabi", but when I want to save myself the long drive I just hit up Mr. Sushi downtown since it's closer for me. And that's never a bad time! So in summation, when you don't want to make the long drive, this is the next best alternative!
Not really on Walnut. This is a minor thing but the building is the 580 building and I guess the main part is on Walnut but this place is sixth street in that restuarant row down there.
Nothing here is the best you can find in the city but everything was pretty good and I thought a pretty solid value. The rolls were huge I usually expect about 6 pieces per roll but for under $6 I had 10 pieces or maybe 12 of spicy tuna roll. My entree of spicy calamari was good it was a but chewy but that does happen with Calmari at times.
Overall we were all happy with our meals and the service and it is always a treat to eat downtown when you get the chance.
A pleasant suprise. Red Rock roll is excellent. Nice sushi bar for dining alone while traveling.
Late Night Spot. I went to Mr. Sushi with some friends after a night on the town and was really impressed by the quality of sushi being served at that hour. Thinking they would rush out some lame rolls to blissfully unaware drunk people happy to eat anything; I was genuinely impressed by the sushi we were presented with. I'll definitely be back to Mr. Sushi in the near future.
Surprised it's not busier!. The location is perfect for dinner before a night out downtown, and the food was great.
Prices were reasonable, and the atmosphere is really fun. The outside of the restaurant does not do the inside justice. From just driving by, I thought it was a pick-up-and-go sort of Sushi restaurant (like Maki in Clifton). But inside, it's a super swank, upscale-looking (but not in price) restaurant.
I had the ginger salad, which I HAVE to try at every sushi restaurant I go to, and the dressing was like HEAVEN. Loved it. For sushi, we had the firecracker roll, which I highly recommend. Yum. Then I had the chicken fried rice. It was really, really good. I asked for a side of the ginger dressing to drizzle over the rice, and it really put it over the top.
I would definitely recommend this spot for a fun dinner downtown, especially because there is no other nice sushi restaurant in the area. It was surprisingly slow, and our server mentioned that they are open until 3 on Fridays and Saturdays. Obviously trying to appeal to the late night crowd, and with a full (and large) bar, it would be a cool place to hang out for a low key weekend night anyway. If only there were more people there. Maybe it will just take some time to catch on.
I have been to Mr. Sushi many times and loved it!Every time I go I either get the spice sushi platter or me and my bf split the sushi for two the service ocasionally lacks but I would give it five stars!
Bi bim bap. I LIVE for this stuff. Mr. Sushi does it justice(:
Great for lunch. For under $10, you can carryout two sushi rolls and a salad. A great option for fresh sushi during your lunch break, and, unlike soho sushi, you get fresh fish, not just spicy tuna or salmon.
We came early for dinner. It was not too busy. Some people preferred sitting at the bar. There were only 2 persons who waited tables, also handled the register, and takeout orders. The service was quick, even only with 2 waiters.
Food:
1. Kalbi was ok. The meat was tender, but little bit chewy.
2. Udon was good. The broth was good.
3. Tempura was standard- nothing special.
4. The entree came with salad and miso soup. The salad dressing was different-most sushi/japanese salad dressing was either wafu or miso or sesame.
5. Spicy tuna roll was good.
Overall was good.
LARGE sushi menu. I was in heaven as I am an avid sushi eater and always trying to find new sushi I haven't tried. I got the Caterpillar Roll and the Spicy Cody Roll minus the sriracha, which were both good. My partner got the beef fried rice with no veggies and the steak was somewhat overcooked but still decent. Prices are a little high but the quality of the food was great. Only bad thing was you pay individually for each side of yum yum/ginger dressing/eel sauce that you get which is about $1 for each.
The best lunch or dinner in town. I love the rolls, and frequently order the ‘Air Force’ which is fantastic. Nice, pleasant atmosphere, especially in the summer when outdoor seating is avail.
Service is fast, friendly and accommodating. I never miss out on Mr Sushi when I’m in town.
Best sushi in the Cincinnati area. Service was a little slow and inattentive even though it wasn’t busy in the restaurant. Maybe they were under staffed that night. Totally worth the wait for how good the sushi is, though. Pretty good value, too, as long as you get the dine-in discount. Otherwise some of the rolls can get pricey.
Delicious! Lots of options and very reasonably priced. Loved it!
Great for carry out. Fast, friendly, easy. Not much of a vibe dining in but if you’re looking for a quiet meal, perfect. I cannot stress this enough: YOU SIMPLY MUST GET THE DUMPLING SOUP.
I love this place. Every time I visit Cincinnati I come here. Their sushi is delicious. Their udon is the perfect texture, and their flavors are awesome. Staff is super nice as well. It's specially convenient that they do take-out so I can always bring dinner to my hotel, since I'm still not very keen on indoors dining while the pandemic is still ongoing. I'll certainly keep coming back to Mr. Sushi when I'm in town!
One of the better Asian food places in Cincinatti. Four stars based on just the Chinese food restaurants in Cincinnati.
This restaurant was actually better than I expected. The food was on point the service lacked a little bit in terms of refills and just checking on us. But overall this restaurant rocks! I will be revisiting it the next time I go downtown for a function.
Went for my moms bday and they were very professional and had great good and cocktails, however, the prices were way too high for the amount of good you got. I got the same steak, but with sides at a high end restaurant in Texas and that was better than this place.
