We have eaten at several different Smoke Houses in Charleston, and this is by far my new favorite. First of all the service was spectacular my glass was not 2/3 empty of sweet tea the entire dinner. Jamie was a wonderful waiter. My husband loved the ribs and pork, but in my opinion the fried chicken and Mac and cheese was the bomb!

It was the 1st time we ate there. We were visiting Charleston . The food was good, our service was good and a great atmosphere. I would recommend it to others and I would eat there again.
You need to stop here for barbecue! The brisket was so tender and flavorful. The pulled pork sandwich had a huge delicious serving of meat. The sweet potato wedges are the best I’ve ever had, dipped in honey. Great macaroni and cheese and cornbread as well. We ate at the bar and the bartender was really on top of everything. Excellent lunch service!
I'll visiting Charleston today. We thought we'd get some good barbecue and we found this place right down on Bay Street and it really didn't disappoint. The food was good. Tasty fresh. The sauces are very good. The mac and cheese that was a smoky was okay but I wouldn't have paid $10 for it as it is on the appetizer.
We enjoyed a pulled pork sandwiches and two of us. Enjoy the four pork men sandwich. You'll see the picture. It's amazing. It's a massive sandwich it has sausage that has been grilled cut in half on the bottom. It has pulled pork on top of that. Then on top of that is two big pieces thick cut apple wood bacon that has been smoked. Has been a cheese sauce added on top of that barbecue sauce on a real nice bun then stuck on top of that bun is a pork spare rib. Amazing!. Just look at the picture .
Honestly, being from the south I've had a lot of BBQ and this place was no exception! I came in here for lunch on a weekday and it wasn't busy so I was seated right away. I ordered a delicious sweet and the highly recommended cast iron cornbread while I waited on my pulled pork sandwich. Everything was delicious and I can't recommend enough! The waitress was so attentive, environment was well kept, and location is near all the shops; so it's a perfect stop between shopping!
Ordered the chopped brisket sandy w Mac n cheese. Big pile of meat that was very moist. Three types of sauce, sweet, spicy and mustard. I’m a sweet sauce fan myself. The mac n cheese was fantastic. Thick and cheesy. Not runny. Platter cost $18. I’ve been on a bbq kick the last month and this is the best of what I’ve had. Bravo Poogan’s, bravo!
The food was amazingly good. We were visiting from Florida. The waitress came over and told us another table paid for me and my sons food🥰 The people in Charleston, South Carolina, were super friendly. Charleston has that southern charm. I recommend anyone to visit here and definitely go to Poogans Smokehouse for great eats
Wow.... On the way through town and found this downtown gem. The sandwich was tender and juicy. And the sidewinder fries.... Amazing! Never had those before and they were just amazing... Crispy and still soft on the inside. This place is a must try.
We came here on a Bulldog food tour, but I would gladly come back! The food was awesome, the servers were very friendly, and the atmosphere was somehow a combination of modern/rustic. We only got a dumpling of the food available, but we loved everything we got to try! I enjoyed all 3 BBQ sauces; sweet, spicy, and even the mustard one!
Some of the best barbecue in the city!! Love the tray style of a plate and their grits are a creamy perfection. But best of all is their seasonal cocktails - I am a fan of their ginger beer mules!
Stopped in for lunch. Beautiful open space all brick/industrial, the BBQ is very good definitely recommend their sandwiches. They also have interesting craft cocktails.
Amazing food and staff. If you want southern barbecue, this place is a must. Even if you aren't craving it, just come, it is sooo worth it. Their nachos were great too, definitely get their meat combo specials if you are HUNGRY. Even if not, it is good to sample what they have.
