We've visited twice and enjoyed it both times. They are conveniently located near Johns Hopkins and there is a parking garage nearby.
The restaurant has a warm and inviting atmosphere, service was friendly and the variety of food choices has made it fun to try new dishes. Prices are reasonable too.
Nice food still. I am biased as I've been visiting multiple times once in a while. I like the sweetness of the turnips cooked in spices and raisins. The lamb is very soft. The mint sauce is a must try, if you like mint. It can go with the rice, the meat, or the soup.
We ordered carryout and when we got home there was an obvious problem. Way too much food for two humans to eat at one time! Their servings are very generous (which we appreciated!), especially for the price. Apart from that, everything was absolutely delicious. Surprising flavors. Thanks much.
Lovely restaurant, with takeout and dine-in options. Quiet and comfortable ambience, and no wait when I came in for an early lunch. The food is excellent, and I recommend that Kabuli pallow. Attentive and friendly service.
First time there. Went around 1:45 on a Friday, place was empty. I was ordering takeout. Very surprised by the ambiance of the interior as it was totally unexpected based on the exterior. The traffic on Wolfe street seems to hide this neighborhood gem. The hostess was super nice & explained the menu as I'd never eaten Afghan food before. Ordered the beef kabob meal. Food was good. & wait wasn't long. Price is average. Would like to stroll back over & dine in so I can get the full experience & explore the menu more. Yes I'd recommend.
It was easy to find street parking on a Tuesday evening.
Ambience: spacious, clean and cozy. Was not crowded at all.
We got shorwa and shornakhod for starters and they were fine but nothing too special. For entree we got kabuli pallow and chicken kabob and they were both very flavorful. The meat in the pallow was tender and juicy. The chicken kabob was very well made as well. Would definitely recommend both.
For dessert we got fereny and jaala vanilla ice cream and we really loved them both.
Service was slow and poor, hence would rate the overall experience as 3.5-4 stars. still not a bad option for some good afghani food.

So happy to have a small version of The Helmand near my workplace! The food is awesome. My favorites are the pumpkin appetizer (Kaddo Borani) and the rice bowl with lamb (Kabuli Pallow). The potatoe & chickpea salad (Shornakhod) is super tasty and you get a big portion for a small price. Prices in general are lower than at the main restaurant on Charles Street. It can get busy during lunch hours, so make sure you get there before 12:30. I highly recommend this place!

Thank you so much, MR. carthel🌟
First time visiting. The ratings did not disappoint! Just what I was looking for- tasty food! Yummy lamb, in & out super fast! Very polite & efficient service. Worth going out of my way to go uptown. I'd definitely return! The atmosphere looked attractive, but I had carry out. I must say, I had no wait no issues! Awesome experience!
Wow!!! Delicious and flavorful food. I was in town for a meeting and our group dined at this restaurant and was it a delight. The food was so tasty and fragrant. We ate family style and had several choices. We had the grilled steak, lamb and chicken. The eggplant and pumpkin appetizers were great. My ABSOLUTE FAVORITE of all the dishes were the meatballs with the cumin basmati rice and the lamb with rice and carrots and raisins on top. Dinner was great. The owner (father and daughter) were very gracious hosts. If you’re in town, you should definitely stop by. Oh and the Portuguese white wine was a nice accompaniment to my meal.
