Despite it's cramped and inefficient layout, this cafe has a great atmosphere and rapid service. It can be extremely crowded at times, but for good reason. They have a nice range of coffee drinks and food options. Their tomato basil soup is perfectly chunky and they have some deliciously creative sandwich options,
Very quaint, definitely a must-visit. best visited for brunch, and not lunch or dinner, as food is light. Their Aztec hot chocolate is a treat to the senses, especially in cold weather - Warm, thick spiced hot chocolate that will keep you feeling warm for hours. However, there are limited options for vegetarians, but the non-vegetarians I visited with absolutely loved the food, and would definitely visit again. Bottom line: definitely visit once, and then plan future visits based on your options in the menu. If you have a choice, pick Carma's over both the Starbucks outlets less than 2 minutes away.
It's so Upper east side. Carma's is like a shop that you'd find on the upper east side of Manhattan. Perfect ambience. Tries to offer the best of everything: great coffee, muffaletta, unparalled soups, Italian sodas and more. The owners are cooks and you see their work in the showcase all the time. One complaint about the soup--put a decent slice of bread or crackers with it. Carma's menu-mix can require one to put out a great deal of money to get a simple lunch that sticks with you. Quality of food and ambiance is great! The menu has problems -- you can only have grilled ham and cheese on flax bread? The service can be very efficient, and often gruff. Many times soups have brought out cold. When the weather is good they have the most perfect sidewalk seating. Sitting at Carma's on late summer afternoon. Perfect.
Great new(ish) addition to Charles Village. I was cautious when Carma's first opened, wondering what to expect from a cafe tucked into a tiny room in a basement off the main drags, but, as it turns out, I shouldn't have worried. The food here is clearly above average, and the menu has a wide array of options to choose from. Even the (non-alcoholic) drinks set it apart from other fare in the area.
I also like that they offer outside dining, which nearly doubles the seating at this small cafe. There are trees that provide some amount of shade, and there typically isn't a lot of traffic down this side street.
I would definitely recommend Carma's to someone looking for lunch in the area.

Great Coffee!. You must understand that I have spent time living in Italy where I learned to fully appreciate and enjoy a really good cup of coffee. Unfortunately, ever since I returned from my time abroad I have been woefully disappointed in the quality of coffee (particularly Italian coffee like cappuccinos) found in the US. In my opinion, Carma makes the best cappuccino in Baltimore. I have returned to her shop on numerous occasions so I know that it wasn't just a fluke the first time. There are many variables involved in the making of a cappuccino: quality of the beans, fine grind, adequate pressure, temperature, and a multitude of factors relating to making "foam". I am happy to relate that I have seen Carma dispose of milk that wasn't steamed and frothed properly instead of serving it to me like I been getting used to with some other "quick" coffee establishments. All this to say that this is your best bet for a quality cappuccino in Baltimore. I also recently noticed that Carma's is now serving Dangerously Delicious Pie - definitely worth a try.

I’ve forgotten how busy coffee shops can be in the middle of the day – especially when they serve food this good. There was a long line to order - which gave me plenty of time to check out the menu. They have a lot more choices than what is written on the wall of ceramic plates. It’s laminated and in a magazine holder near the cash register. When they are busy, please take a look at it. The barista was very happy with me when I knew exactly what I wanted and I was happy for the compliment. :-) I went for the chicken salad sammich with the sesame noodle salad. The baguette had a fresh crunch and was filled full with a hearty chicken salad with grapes, celery and some baby greens. I loved the grapes in the chicken salad – adding great texture and brightness. This was so much food, especially when paired with their noodle salad. I usually go the side salad when I eat in because I like their tangy house dressing – but the sesame noodle salad travels a little better. I am not a huge fan of sesame noodles in general; It is not normal go to. But, it sure is at Carma’s. The cold noodles are lightly dressed with your classic sesame sauce. This one is lighter on the peanut flavor – which highlights the sesame, chili and green onions. These guys are great and don’t get nearly enough attention with some of the bigger chains nearby. The cafe inside is on the smaller side, so it fills up quickly, but they have tons of outdoor seating for when the weather is nice. Remind me to go here next time when I am in a rush – they hade twice the number of folks in line and I was in and out in less than half the time of some other cafes. The rise and shine coffee is great but the frittata tasted old, it was dry and grainy. There were also flies buzzingaround which was quite unpleasant. Given the negatives you'd think I didn't like it, but for some reason I enjoyed the atmosphere and i'm definitely going top give them another chance. Food, ok Price, good
This cafe and its owner are absolutely darling. I noticed a sewing machine set up and asked about it. She said they hadn't been very busy lately so she's been using the extra time so sew masks! Just wonderful. They also make their own chocolate syrup so get a mocha.
Love the choices here, avo toast, various delicious soups, sandwiches, scones, lattes, unique flavors ♡♡♡ (especially if you like a little spice) cozy atmosphere too!!
I used to eat here years ago. The chicken salad with, sesame noodles on the side with an iced coffee was just so amazingly delicious. Those noodles can't be bested. When it's spring in Baltimore, eating outside while doing the weekly crossword puzzle while enjoying Carma's is some of my fondest memories. It's been years but I hope they reopen.

Love the cozy atmosphere. It is a great place to grab coffee and have a good conversation and I have always loved their scones. The meal-time food is also very good and overall is an enjoyable visit. There is limited seating inside though so just be wary of that.
The facility itself is kind of tight but the food is great. There’s outdoor seating, and there is a restroom for customers.
They have a lot of good vegan/vegetarian options, and it’s just off the main street so there’s not as much foot traffic.
Delicious!! Their meatball rocket and mocha latte is wonderful and tasty. Perfect brunch!

I never would have known about this place if a friend hadn't brought me here. It's very hard to miss but worth looking for. It's a very small place so that might not be your thing. But there is outdoor seating and blankets are provided when the weather is cold. The food and drinks are reasonably priced and delicious. You can get a snack, pastry, or a meal here. Would highly recommend.
