Awesome service and great food! It can be tough to find consistently good Indian food in Austin, let alone Nepalese - you get options for both at Saffron South!
Gobi Manchurian is a wonderful surprise - never think to order a cauliflower starter, but this one packs a punch of complex flavor! We ordered more than we could possibly eat (hooray for leftovers), but the mains that stood out to me from a flavor profile were the Lamb Rogan Josh and the Lamb Vibdaloo (yes, it’s just as hot as you’d expect). Recommend ordering a few options and attacking them tapas-style so that you can enjoy more variety.
You really can’t go wrong with a lunch visit here b/c the restaurant is moderately busy, but still plenty of time for excellent service and attention from the staff.
One call out: at Saffron South, you’re not here for the drinks, you’re here for the food, and that’s where I’d recommend putting your money. Delicious!
Note: this review is for take out.
We ordered takeout and the food was out of this world. We were genuinely impressed with everything we ordered = the Saffron Chicken Lazeez, Baigan Bhartha, Chicken Tikka Kebab, and Kolonji Paneer Tikka.
Each dish had its own distinct flavor profile. you could taste the delicious smoked eggplant in the Baigan Bhartha. The Saffron chicken Lazeez was unlike anything I've ever had and again the flavors and textures just meshed so well together! The Kolonji Paneer Tikka and the Chicken Tikka Kabob were both cooked to perfection.
Personally, I prefer Indian restaurants that use minimal oil and pay meticulous attention to crafting specific flavors for each dish. This place is my new favorite and I will definitely be back!
Ordered take out and the food was delicious. A bit oily, but very tasty. I ordered paneer tikka masala-medium spice (next time I’ll get hot), saag paneer, and garlic naan. I would order from here again.
Will sure go back for the Mushroom Curry - happy we asked for spicy and put the extra spicy sauce on the side. My daughter has high expectation for Butter Chicken and it didn't disappoint. Lamb kabab is dry. Portions look small in the to-go boxes and turn out perfect with the rich flavor.
Went for lunch. They no longer have a buffet. The menu is extensive.
The food was hot, spicy and quite delicious. You can customize your spice range, we opted for the sweat-inducing 8/10.
If you like spicy hot, try the jalapeno naan.
It's hard to come by lots of variety in cultural cuisine where we live. We were fortunate to find this charm that serves Nepalese, Himalayan, and Indian specialties.
Our array of dishes were nicely presented, freshly cooked, and super tasteful. The selections we chose didn't fall short. We loved and devoured their:
Lamb biryani
Jinga Angare
Rosemary cheese naan
These were also enjoyable to strike a hunger pang:
Golden Manchurian Fried Golden Cauliflower
Chicken Lollipop
3 mango lassi
This was a great find in the beautiful area of Westlake Hills. Their space is quite large for family meals together, and good for the lunch crowd. The warm atmosphere was welcoming, as well as their service. We were satisfied about everything!
Absolutely the best Curry I have ever had!!!! I ordered extra spicy and yes for certain people it may be a little hot, , but it was far more flavorful than anything else... Amazing!!!
