Kin & Comfort is a hidden gem inside the Hana World Market. It’s a humble, small cafe serving some of the biggest and best Asian Fusion cuisine in the city. The menu is unique, the ingredients are fresh…and the flavors are worth the drive to North Austin. The entrees are Tapas style, so sampling is encouraged, but definitely try the Panang Mac & Cheese and Coconut Cabbage Slaw…delish. It's become one of my favorite places for Asian Fusion cuisine and is worth the drive up north! It knocks my socks off with each dish. Love it!! TIP: Hours Mon, Wed-Sun 11am-8pm. Located inside entryway of Hana World Market. Cash only.

You can find this yummy Asian and Southern fusion inside the Hana World food court. Be sure to bring cash since both spots in the food court only take cash. The upcoming I Heart Pho may take card once they open. I tried the Son In Law Deviled Eggs (3 half eggs), and they were way too heavy with sauce. They barely tasted like eggs. The tastier option I had was the catfish fries over rice. Be warned that the slaw it comes with has quite a bit of lemongrass mixed in if you're not a fan. Definitely stop in if you're in the area and looking for a quick meal. I'll be back to try the shrimp and grits.

If Asian cuisine fused with comfort food sounds like your greatest dream come true, you're correct--and you can get it at Kin & Comfort. This unassuming counter located in the food court at Hana World Market offers traditional favorites like mac n' cheese and meatloaf with a flavorful twist. The panang beef mac n' cheese is an absolute must--the spice of the beef combined with the lightly sauced noodles makes a perfectly satisfying dish. Although the food court setting isn't ideal and the menu is small, reasonable prices and generous portions will keep me coming back.

To me, this is the absolute best place to eat in north austin. I went last week for lunch and had such an amazing mind-exploding experience that I brough 5 friends back for dinner the same day. The tom kha shrimp and grits is the absolute star of the show. The coconut milk based soup pairs so well with grits that I couldn't believe this was the first time I tasted the combination. The Thai style meatloaf was a big portion and very tasty (although mainly recommended for meatloaf fans). The peppered beef tongue was incredibly savory and delicious served on a cold and equally delicious broccoli slaw. The southern fried rice balls were presented impressively and delicious as well. They had a Sweet Potato Fries special on while I was there, and they were not the standard orange sweet potatoes, but a different tastier variety with the absolute best dipping sauce I've ever had. The only thing that wasn't a home run was the fried white of the deviled egg, which was leathery - but still tasted wonderful. The prices are very fair for the quality of food on offer, just be sure to bring cash (there is NOT an ATM inside Hana World Market).

I feel like Kin and Comfort should have their own food trailer, instead of being inside the Hana World Market food court. I will say the Panang Mac & Cheese blew me away! Yea it looks weird when they bring it out, but you'll forget about its looks after you taste it. The Krapao Pork Belly bun (2 buns) is another of my favorites; the Asian pear goes really well with the pork belly and your hands are guaranteed to get messy. I wasn't a big fan of the Son-in-law Deviled Egg mainly because I didn't like the outer fried layer; it wasn't crispy and was just difficult to chew. I think I would've liked it more if they left the egg white alone. The flavor was great though. Cash only. Some menu items are a little pricey for the portion size, but overall still good.

I'm pretty surprised this restaurant is inside an Asian market of all places--the food seems like it should come from a food trailer. Their menu is comprised of some Southern and Asian fusion deliciousness. It's a little pricey for their portions--I would probably order at least 2 things to be satisfied. This treasure is definitely one of my top places to go eat if I'm ever up north. Highly recommend the Catfish Fries and their Son-in-law Deviled Eggs were amazing as well.

This spot is a total hidden gem. Tucked away in an Asian Market food court, you'll find a unique fusion of Asian Fusion and Southern Comfort. Be sure to try the Panang Mac & Cheese, made with rice noodles and topped with amazing, tender curried beef. For me, the brussel sprouts fell a little short when compared to the all-star renditions found at East Side King and Uchiko, but otherwise, Kin & Comfort is a winner. (Also, if you haven't been there in a while, they now accept credit cards)

Kin & Comfort is a Asian-Southern fusion place tucked away in the cafeteria section of Hana World Market. The menu is limited, but this just means that what's there has been perfected to a razor's edge. Everything on it is great, from the panang mac and cheese to the palo buns to the fried chicken thigh. To be honest, it's hard to recommend one single thing, so I say just see what's appetizing and order it. I only wish they were open later, but honestly, they're worth it.

What you'll find here is delicious food, at an economical price (being located in a food court inside Hana market is probably low overhead). I tried several things; of these my favorite hands-down was the Tom Kha shrimp and grits, a dreamy, creamy mixture full of flavor and plump shrimp. My next favorite item was the coconut cabbage slaw: a delightful mix of bright red pickled beets, crispy Brussels spouts and cabbage. The taro hush puppies were tasting and filling; with more taro than fennel. The son-in-law deviled eggs were interesting and I'm not sure fried deviled eggs is a trend that will (or should) last, but the accompanying sauce gives them a nice Asian flair. The ginger ice cream with stewed strawberries was a nice treat to finish off the meal.

Inside an Asian market in the culturally neglected north side of Austin, K&C adds a unique flavor to north Austin that is already rich in Asian cuisine. The Panang curry Mac/Cheese and Tom Ka shrimp/grits completely rocked my world...Having lived in all areas of Austin, I know many southsiders try their best to not dine this far north. Traffic makes it hard and its out of the way for many but other than Tomo Sushi, this is the only other place worth making the pilgrimage to the suburban border for food. No complaints but this is not a place overly concerned with great design or decor, only great food.
