We were on a little food tour and the plan was to try the brisket and the ribs at Kerlin BBQ. It is an unassuming food truck with a little place to sit and eat beside it.

The weather in Austin had turned to drizzling and cold from a bright and sunny previous day and was good to be invited with the aromas of the barbecue as we sat down. Trays arrived with the brisket, ribs, coleslaw and their potato & dil salad.

The brisket were exceptional. I loved the little burnt bits. In fact they could be cut with a plastic fork that was provided. So tender and nice.

The ribs were really nice too. The smokiness was perfect and so was the cooking of the meat.

The salad was good and the coleslaw was terrific. Worth every moment we spent there.

I could say one of the best briskets I have ever had!

First off, Kerlin BBQ is awesome! I initially ordered a 1/2 pound of Angus Brisket and Pork Shoulder (I did not get any sides), and wow! The brisket had a nice bark and was nicely seasoned and moist and really is a "no sauce needed" type of brisket. Although if you pour some of their homebrewed BBQ sauce over the brisket, your tastebuds will love it as well. However, I will say, the Pork Shoulder will invite a mouth-gasm or two. The meat was tender and also was very nicely seasoned. Their BBQ sauce is nicely glazed over the Pulled Pork Shoulder and it is a match made in heaven. Their service is top-notch! As I went back to order 1.5 pounds more of Angus Brisket and Pork Shoulder to take home 4 hours away, I asked what I could do to help preserve the meat for the ride. She gave me detailed instructions and even wrapped up the meat in a manner so it may not dry out as quickly and keep it warm. I am back home now, and the meat is still warm and moist! Also, their pricing is very reasonable. Don't miss out on the BBQ here just because it is not the bigger competition ("Franklin's", "La Barbeque", etc.) nor has the media publicity (yet). You will not be disappointed and will walk away with the thought of wanting to come back for more.

Kerlin BBQ might not appear on many of the top ten BBQ in Austin lists you see floating around but make no mistake, the BBQ at Kerlin is legit. Bill Kerlin only set up his BBQ truck in 2014, and hadn’t even smoked brisket until he moved to Texas in 2011.

I’m giving this food truck “best of” Austin BBQ status. Friendly folks with killer brisket. Everything we have here is solid. If you like blue cheese, the blue cheese coleslaw is not to be missed.

Was told I couldn't miss the brisket cheddar kolaches and wasn't disappointed. The Kolaches are only available Sundays and only until they sell out (which happens fast). The line is pretty nuts so get there early (they open at 11).

Hands down the best BBQ I’ve ever had. I’ve never been to Austin so we decided to visit and check out all the food in town. We ate at a few places and they were all good, but, Kerlin’s is the best BBQ in the country and I’ll have words with anyone who says different. I’ve been to a lot of places throughout the US but this is the best, so much so that I was going to stay another day in Austin, just to eat there again. (Sadly work didn’t allow) The brisket, the pork shoulder sandwich, the chopped brisket sandwich they were all amazing. The blue cheese coleslaw is the best coleslaw I’ve ever had. I wish I could eat at Kerlin’s everyday. I can’t say enough about how good this food is.

One of my favorite bbq joints in Austin. I love everything they make and on this visit I enjoyed their baby backs with their blue cheese slaw and as well as their pork burnt ends with Mac n cheese. If your smart enough to plan ahead go on Sunday and get their brisket kolaches.

The most underrated bbq in Austin. This place is great. I've been to all the big ones in Austin and I'd definitely recommend Kerlin. The line is much shorter and the brisket is just as good. The pork ribs are awesome and they have what no-one else has. They have brisket kolaches which has to be the only place in the world you can get this. They are unreal. You have to check this place out.

Another exceptional dine-in at Kerlin. I highly recommend this stop in Austin despite not having the same publicity as a Franklin’s or Terry Black’s. My recommendation: Brisket - perfectly tender Sauce - it’s not often that I remark on bbq sauce but Kerlin’s is outstanding and balanced Jalapeño Dill Potato Salad - a creative side with all my favorite ingredients 5/5! Bravo Kerlin!

I may have found the best kolaches on the planet. Brisket and cheddar -- and they're made by hand at one of the most awesome barbecue trailers in Austin - Kerlin BBQ. So you already know the brisket is gonna be amazing. These kolaches are absolutely incredible stuff. If for some reason you don't know what a kolache, definitely look it up. And know that you are missing out!

Was really skeptical of all the really good reviews, but the BBQ here is pretty good. Their kolache is very flavorful especially the brisket kolache. These sell out fast, so I'd recommend that if you want to try some get there before noon. They sold out of the kolaches right after us. The regular brisket could have been a tad more tender, but I think I just prefer a more fatty cut. The sausage link has a hint of heat which I love. Definitely would come back.

My friend and I decided to eat here since Franklin’s dine in was closed. My brisket was delicious and tender. The Mac and cheese I got was perfectly creamy and flavorful. Love the simple dining area outside too. Great BBQ spot.

No wait at all which was nice. The fatty brisket was great, except for the texture. It was almost mushy. It was certainly different, but I won’t deduct a star for that. It still tasted good and I’d happily get it again. The pork ribs were alright. They were fall off the bone tender, but they weren’t too flavorful. When paired with their sauce it was better. It could just be me as I just came from a bbq place just down the road :) The blue cheese coleslaw was delicious!
