Very good place to eat. The food is consistently high quality, the service is friendly and fast, the portions for the price is good and they place is clean. They have good lunch specials.
The egg drop soup is amazing! From all the places I’ve eaten, their soup is definitely the best! As for the dish I ordered, which was lo mein noodles, I say it was good but it didn't have too much flavour. I also had the pork buns which were DELICIOUS.
The prices were also VERY cheap (I think the most expensive plate was 12 dollars) and the service was great! The lady who took my order was very nice and courteous!
I’ll say this place is great for college students and a better option than the restaurants in UNM!
UPDATE:
I have visited a few times since my first review and the food just gets better and better! I highly recommend the orange chicken. It has a very unique flavour and it is super flavourful and aromatic! <3
UPDATE UPDATE:
I love love LOVE this place!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I decided to try this place since my friends recommend it to me. They said the prices are cheap, friendly service, and the food is great. They weren't wrong. At first i was surprise at how old the building is, it didn't have the nicest decor but when i went it, you could tell its a friendly environment. The waitresses English isn't the best, but you could tell they were really trying to communicate with the customers. The dinning area is clean and the food is cheap. They have an open kitchen, which is pretty cool, and their dishes does not contain MSG which i am thankful for. Overall its a good place to go if your looking for friendly service, friendly environment, delicious food with a cheap price!
So tasty! They have just about everything, both familiar dishes and things I haven't tried before. When you order takeout, they make it fresh right then, and it tastes amazing! Also, the folks who run it are very sweet.
Our favorite little Chinese shop in the University area. All of the workers are super friendly. It’s affordable and they give you large portions. We like to order the chicken fried rice, mongolian beef, and eggs rolls. As a tip- you can order online through an app called BeyondMenu.
Exceptional food. Best Chinese in the university area and unbeatable prices (Street Food Asia is great as well but not strictly Chinese). Probably one of the top Chinese restaurants in town (I'd give Budai, East Asia, Beijing Palace - haven't been there in a while but their Dim Sum at the time was awesome - probably higher quality food but they are different dinner-style restaurants while Kais shoots for convenience and price). I don't give the praise lightly - I've eaten Chinese all over the world including dozens of cities in Hong Kong, China, and Taiwan. It's not exactly banquet style so don't expect anything too fancy and more gourmet items won't be on the menu. You won't be able to get a whole fish or certain pork recipes etc. In terms of scrumptious take-out or a casual meal however, it is impossible to beat.
Lunch special has dumbfounding prices for entree, rice, egg roll, and soup. Their dinners are excellent as well and authentic. I'd recommend anything on the menu and they'll even make something by request if possible (my roommate insisted on Green Curry on night and got it). Food is prepared quickly, a little less so during the busy lunch hour, which is amazing considering they have only one cook.
Unfortunately New Mexicans are easily swayed by decor, thus the proliferation of snazzy restaurants with substandard food which seem to do great while the ethnic gems in town amble along.
It's nice quiet place to enjoy the food. Their clear soup base ( wong ton, sizzling rice, sweet and sour, etc) is very well seasoned. I had the Wong Ton soup which also had cabbage and bean sprouts in it, and that made even more delicious. I ordered the Moo Shu chicken and my guest had Mongolian beef, they came out Not Oily! Yes! A place that does not cook in gallons of oil per dish. The flavors were familiar but fresh tasting. And well seasoned and the right amount of sauce.
Now the whole place it's self is more then simple, but the fact that I could see into the open kitchen and watch my food being cooked made up for that. Only downside is the parking situation. They do have their own parking in the back, but no lights. And it's right by the university so win or lose.
I will definitely come back here again.
Oh, they have free WiFi too.
Orange Chicken actually tastes like Orange Chicken, unlike other supposedly "Chinese" eateries. Good Job! Thank you for the prompt service, attention to your customers and Genuine Friendly atmosphere.
This place was my parents date night restaurant years ago and for good reason. The food is delicious every time, good prices, quick service and a clean, quiet environment. Highly recommend !

Kai's is good atmosphere, courteous service, great lunch specials! you can sit quietly read the paper or do a little work, enjoy the place & your food, hang out with a friend or two, and not feel like they're trying to get you out, even during the lunch rush, I love them at Kai's & go back as much as possible depending on my schedule.
