Totally disagree with the old ladies comment below. Everything tastes really fresh, best rellenos anywhere and their homemade. Maybe she should have added a little salt because they definitely don't over salt their food, they leave that to you....super good sopas too....

Great vegetarian option for lunch!. I go to Richard's at least once a month. I always order red chile enchiladas with lentils with papitas. Papitas are sauteed, not deep dried. I request steamed tortillas to avoid the oil, and red chile. This particular dish is so big that I take half of it home for dinner. The service has always been very friendly and helpful. I do not understand the negative reviews. However, if you are looking for unhealthy/lardy/heavy food, you won't be happy with Richard's so please go somewhere else.
We love Richard's. My family has been going to Richard's for years and we love their food and have always had good service. We are native New Mexicans and find the chile hot enough and the flavors good. I like that you can get posole as one of your sides and the sopapillas have always been yummy. I recently had to go on a gluten-free diet when I called to ask if they could accommodate that they said it wouldn't be a problem They do not put flour in their chile sauces as many Mexican restaurants do which is usually the main danger.
I'm sorry to hear that others have had bad experiences but felt like I had to put in my two cents' worth in defense of Richard's which I have always enjoyed.
Richards is our favorite new mexican in abq! Awesome fresh ingredients that taste great and feel much healthier but still satisfy that craving. Excellent vegetarian options for even healthier indulgence. Great sopas. Great red and green chile. Lots of fresh lettuce and tomatoe on the dishes.
We went there 3 times last week. It is convenient, fairly fast, and the food is reliable. I wish the red chile was a little hotter, but the salsa is good. Someone told us that it was healthy Mexican food, but I couldn't see that - it seemed about the same as other places.
Overall it is a decent Mexican restaurant. I've had better. Papitas are amazing. Pinto beans could use some seasoning. I've never tastes so much garlic in red chile in my life! Service was a little lacking.
Well the service is just so warming every single time me and my husband walk in and out of this place the food is the best my faviorite breakfast plate is the house breakfast it's a big plate but i consume every bit of it i'm not a big person either it's just sooooo good, and my favioite dinner plate is the carne adovada plate,enchilada grande,and the stuffed bean sopa mmmmmmmm!!!!!! thanks for all the great food you are in my chart as one of my favorite nm restraunts
Absolutely phenomenal. I looked this place up on a work trip from Colorado to Phoenix, and I was absolutely Satisfied with my choice. We had the best meal in a long time. Server was amazing, food was incredible, and the atmosphere was a quiet and comfortable place. Totally unassuming, and it's far enough away from the homeless camps where you aren't hounded and bothered at all.
If you know true Northern NM food, this place is good!! Both Red and Green are delicious, and the Beans are old school style cooked. Your Missing out if you haven't tried Richards . great food
Great comfort food! The enchiladas and tacos were tasty, but the sides... I LOVE them! Fidel, posole, and calabacitas ( squash)! Located on the North side of Menaul NE and west of American Furniture.
The combination plate is my favorite, and the food is delicious. I love to add the posole as a side along with beans. I enjoy Richard's style, and the pricing is reasonable.
Love all the meatless options! The Live Music at lunch is refreshing! I had the special of the day which was Blue Corn Enchiladas with lentils and rice. Very tasty! The staff is very attentive. Really nice overall experience!

I disagree with a 4.3* rating, it's far too low! This restaurant is far too consistent to not be 5*. Consistently good quality food, consistently great service and a consistently clean and comfortable atmosphere ... It's been that way for the last 15 years I've been going there and is a family favorite.

Finally got my opportunity to try this place out the other day when in the area at lunchtime. Restaurants that waste little time seating you and getting good food to the table are always a keeper in my book. This certainly is the case as it pertains to Richard's Mexican Restaurant on Menaul.
When I walked in, I was graciously greeted by the cashier and guided to a table by my server. Chips and salsa were complimentary and as they usually do, made for a stratifying appetizer. For lunch, I decided to try the intriguingly titled "low carb meal". Which came served with my choice of beef or chicken and a flour tortilla.
Despite possessing a marginally ambiguous name. The low carb meal is essentially beef (or chicken) mixed in with scrambled eggs and topped with shredded cheese. Chopped lettuce, tomatoes, and guacamole are also included on the platter and complements the heartiness of the protein jumble that sits below it.
Although I felt that the portion size could have been a bit larger, Richard's nonetheless delivered. The food was good, and the service was more than satisfactory. I'm definitely eager to try out more menu items in the near future. Just be forewarned before you plan of visiting, that Richard's is only open until 3 pm.
While understaffed, the service was excellent. There is often a gentleman playing guitar. The food is good.
Chile rellenos, sopapillas, fideo, nachos, red chile are all delicious. I have been going here for 23 years and it has been consistently great. One of my top 5 Albuquerque restaurants for NM food.
