Wanted to try this cafe because they had some delish sounding gluten free items. Although there was a bit of a wait, the owners were there helping work during a busy stint, the food was absolutely worth the wait. We had it for dinner Friday night then went back for the same thing Saturday for brunch. OhMyStarsYum!!! We had the gluten free pancakes and the hash with 2 eggs. On Saturday we ordered two orders of the pancakes and got the eggs over easy on the hash - loved the yolky sauce that happened over the hash. We live almost 4 hours away and Flying Star Cafe was worth the drive alone!!! Staff was friendly too and it was totally fine to see them busy - they took great care of us!
My favorite favorite small chain restaurant and my favorite Flying Star location (because of BookWorks next door). Love how wonderful they are about cleaning off an area to prep and cook my gluten-not orders. 50% off wine in the evenings is also pretty wonderful.
Too Expensive, but.... We all know this place is way overpriced, but the coffee is great and they will leave you alone even if you stay all day and only order coffee. If it were not for the wi-fi though, they'd be a waste of prime real estate.
The food is consistently good here with a pretty huge menu. It's a little overpriced but very good.
Good. Comfortable cafe, but the food is a bit expensive.
The lemonade is really good!
A Regular Stop.. Well, I wouldn't call this place "sprawling," however, compared to many of their other locations, I suppose it is larger.
In any event, though I don't live in Albuquerque, I am routinely there several times a year visiting family. Flying Star has always been one of my favorite fast-casual spots in town. The perfect place for a quick bite of "higher quality," than your average equivalent establishment.
This location in particular is probably my favorite. I stay with family in the area just north, along Rio Grande, and I find it gets most of my time and money. Plus, the patio area is incredibly inviting.
Where I live in Phoenix, places like Flying Star are a nearly a dime-a-dozen, but in the ABQ, it's still a diamond in the rough. Sure, there are better places in town, but for familiarity and consistency, served in an upbeat, contemporary and un-pretentious atmosphere, Flying Star is one of the best.
Their coffee, their massive homemade dessert selections baked inhouse daily (tarts, cookies, fudge, brownies, etc.), and of course there varied menu of fresh sandwiches, salads and other "comfort foods," done quick and easy. Everything is generally worth a try. Even some of their New Mexican food specialties are more than satisfactory.
And yes, I know this place is a chain. However, it's a small, home-grown chain, that prides itself in being a product of New Mexico.
That's fine by me.

Just your run of the mill quintessential New Mexican fast casual place. Not entirely authentic, but a homegrown New Mexican spot. This location might be the best one due to its location in the Valley, but you always know what you’re getting when you eat at a Flying Star. Above quality diner food with a bit of New Mexican flare.
We love Flying Star! This one is located off Rio Grande and there’s lots of outside parking for bikes and cars. 🚴 Food is always fresh and good. Free coffee refills too. ☕️
This was a wonderful stop for us. I personally had the French dip and it was wonderful. The cheese was melted to perfection. The portion was more than enough and the aus jus was to die for.
Also for a wonderful mix of sweet and tart..try the strawberry lemonade
Eclairs are to die for. The baked goods rock. Clientele and workers can be a tad condescending - but waddaya gonna do? (Console yourself with baked goods and yummy coffee.)
Very nice atmosphere in this location. Food was good and fairly quick. It's quiet and calm in the patio area. I went on a Saturday afternoon and was still not overwhelmed by a crowd of people. There is also some great shops nearby, including a bookstore right next door!
I love this place, the patio is amazing, you can go to have good food and relax at the same time.
You can enjoy a great breakfast, brunch with mimosas, lunch, and dinner. Anytime of the day!!
If you love desserts 🍨 🥧 here is the best place.
Really good place and have a variety of choices. There was a hair in my pie and was just asking for another one but instead they comped my pie and gave me a new piece. The food is good and the service is great
Was in the area for a wedding recently and took the family to eat at Flying Star Cafe - in a word: excellent! We have a pretty wide variety of tastes in our family, so when everyone finds something they like, that's a huge win - and everyone was very pleased with their meal. I had the fish tacos - maybe a little too much of the coleslaw, but excellent. Even the simple chicken crispers were excellent. The red/green burrito was outstanding - but the favorite was the mac n cheese sandwich! I wish we had saved room for dessert - honestly, I think we missed the best part of Flying Star - everything looked spectacular - next time!!!
Delicious bowls! I had the Buddha Bowl with chicken. Loaded with fresh, well-prepared veggies and flavorful chicken. The crispy wontons on top were AMAZING!!! They make the dish. Friends had soups and different bowls; everyone loved it. Food came out promptly. Nice large outdoor seating area with a fireplace. Friendly, helpful staff.
UPDATE - We went for an early dinner on Christmas Eve. No crowd, super friendly staff. We had the MOST AMAZING traditional turkey dinner ever!! Moist, fresh turkey; stuffing; excellent fried chopped sweet potato bites; fried stuffing bites; gravy; and cranberry chutney. See the picture. It tasted as good as the best I've had anywhere, and better than most. Thank you!
Very good! Came in with a friend after visiting the winery nearby. Just split a piece of carrot cake and had us each a cup of coffee. All of it was very good! Super nice location. Next door to a cool bookstore too! Definitely worth a stop!
