I went to this place a few days after it opened, and boy was I surprised. I really enjoyed meeting the staff, who was busy but friendly throughout my visit.
I've since been back twice to try new things on the menu and to see how this place is fitting into the neighborhood, and I'm still really happy with it.
Hands down, the spicy coconut sauce on any protein/starch combo has been my favorite.
After living in Asia for many years, I was skeptical of the "authentic Asian fare" at street carts on P St. But I'm a believer - been here 3 times so far and has always been friendly, fast and fresh. The head chef is Thai and the manager is from Malaysia. Food is a bit spicy (just nice for me). they have more sauces if you want more heat (like my wife).
Came here for lunch and went with the chicken bowl with fried rice. Got two different sauces with the lean- teriyaki and curry.
The portion of protein is generous and the carbs and veggies on the side will definitely fill you up. Flavors overall were on point.
My favorite build your own bowl place I’ve tried in the DC Metro area so far. The sauces are what make this place stand out though. And they have interesting drinks on tap. Convenient location too. Highly recommend!
Chicken with Green curry( authentic), pad thai, beef with red curry and fried rice are good. Reasonably priced. Clean and staffs are friendly. Delicious Southeast asian food.
This is a great fast casual option in Logan Circle. For fast casual, the atmosphere is very nice with awesome decor. It's modern and clean. The food is delicious, the portion sizes are great, and the price is what would be expected. I always get the bowl and they are more than accommodating with giving you extra rice and sauce on the house. Management is receptive to customer feedback as this is their first year in business.
Staff is usually nice, however, they seem to run out of menu options pretty often. You frequently hear "we're out of that right now, are you willing to wait?"
But, it's a really great spot.
Overall, pretty decent, though very westernized take on Asian food. Interesting selection of on-tap teas/lemonades, friendly service, relatively quick order turnaround time. Good value in terms of portion sizing and overall quality.
Nitpicks: No obvious indicators that the first part of the counter (nearest the entrance) is only for ordering things from the salad menu. Ended up wasting time standing behind a patron here, when apparently I should have cut immediately to the middle of the counter to order pad thai. Chicken that was added to the pad thai was grilled in a manner that's pretty atypical for Asian cuisine and a little dry. Serving from dutch ovens behind the glass counter is an interesting look, but doesn't really fit with the 'Asian street food' theme. Pad thai lacked 'wok hei', and it's obvious why: the cook behind the counter was using that wok at what appeared to be far too low of a temperature.
Street Carts is the southeast Asian version of Rasa. It's fast casual, but with more of a home grown feel to it. The assembly line keeps the food in clay pots like at Rasa.
This location is near the P Street Whole Foods in Logan Circle and is spacious. You go down the line and make a rice bowl complete with a protein and a sauce of your choosing. I ordered the jasmine rice with steak and green curry sauce. It was good.
They also have teas and lemonades on tap. The lemonade is really good and refreshing.
There are plenty of tables to sit at with large windows to people watch.
Howard, the manager, was knowledgeable and inviting. We watched him prep and roll our sushi to order and heard him list the ingredients of many of his items. Very talented staff and great tasting food!! Enthusiastically recommend!!
When Shop House closed many of us worried that it was the end of an era. Well, like a phoenix rising from the ashes, Street Carts has resurrected Southeast Asian fast casual in DC, and it’s better than ever. Get the bowl with mixed veggies as a base. Pick a protein and grab a sauce. You’re good to go. Best Shop House replacement in the District. Hands down.
