Small place but good food. Great Veg sushi. Also tried the Kamameshi and enjoyed the same.
To end the dinner had the mochi icecreams which are one of my favorites

Kotobuki is a staple in the DC sushi scene and for the longest time, it has been one of the best sushi spots in DC (recently opened Sushi Capitol provides a solid alternative). The menu is standard and traditional, no overly flashy rolls, just excellent fresh seafood. Although the prices have gone up, it's still reasonable for what you get. Bonus: they have the full Beatles catalog on steady rotation.

Good sushi. First time here for lunch and it was good and price fair so long as you order plates versus ala carte. Restaurant is pretty small with seating for about 30-40pax. I had Chirashi which was a nice dish for lunch.

Favorite sushi. Tgis is my favorite sushi restaurant in DC proper. It is small, the food comes out fast, the quality is great for a very reasonable price, and they only play Beatles music on the speakers. What's not to love? Come for the Chirashi or a lunch special. The only downside is that it's not especially convenient to get to, but worth the trek!

This is the best sushi restaurant so far in DC - a Japanese owned, good pricing, and fresh ingredients. Not for a fancy date or business occasion.

Great quality, low prices!. This is the best sushi dollar for dollar I have found in the DC area, (with the possible exception of Hinata Sushi Carry-out). However unlike Hinata, this place is not a Japanese market, but rather a restaurant. Despite the other comments I thought the atmosphere was nice enough, if bustling with life and busy as can be, and I appreciated the service I got. Most important was the top quality sushi at rock bottom prices!

AMAZING!. This place is tasty and cheap. The only downside is it's not Metro accessible.

Their special maki rolls are huge. The rainbow roll is beautiful, but instead of the using the normal California roll foundation, they fill the roll with various types of fish roe (it still tastes great, though). The Hotate (scallop) is AMAZING and practically melts in your mouth.

I'm originally from California and was surprised to eat such fresh and cheap sushi in DC when I lived there. This is definitely a place I'll continue to return to when I visit

If you like the beatles and fantastic, inexpensive sushi. . . Then you'll love this little DC gem. So worth the drive. Great recession prices ;)

Kotobuki is definately the best sushi for the buck restaurant in the DC area. The Chirashi is my favorite. My once week restaurant.

Excellent Sushi. For an affordable price. Definitely was worth both the trip and the short wait. I will be back here again!!

Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, I have so much to say, but I'm going to start with this. The entryway was elegant all by itself. When you walk in, you walk down some steps, and you just think you're going into some kind of secret place that makes you anxious to see what's behind those doors. If you have not been to this place, now I know it's expensive, but it is totally worth it at least once or twice a year to treat yourself. You work so much, and sometimes you think, why are you working or you look at your bank account and say where the money went? I have nothing to show for it. Well, this is the time to treat yourself and treat yourself here because it is well worth it. You need a reservation, and for them to know that you're serious, you have to put down a down payment because when you put a down payment on something, your butt is coming. Listen here there are a courses, and you also have to get the sake drinks. It is an added addition but they pay it with the meals and it is so delicious. So I hear they change the menu each season, and this season was wagyu beef, and oh my gosh, I swear if I could afford it, I would have gone the next day just for the experience. They also have caviar that you can add to your meal as well, but that is up to you. The waiters and waitresses are super nice the bartender and I forgot his name but he was killing on the drinks the sous chefs were awesome and the MasterChef that lady oh my gosh I forgot her name too but she was out of this world and she's gorgeous. But again, if you have not come to this place yet, definitely come down and experience for yourself because my words aren't even enough to express how this place is. Oh, and I almost forgot if your person that want to be substituting stuff and don't like certain things and don't like to experience food this is not the place for you because they do no substitutions. And they mean it! But I tell you if you enjoy the food and you want to sit on your palate and just absorb every ingredient of the dish, come get your experience at this place.

Nice little authentic Japanese eatery. Chirashi and Unagidon were both excellent. Kamameshi is their real specialty, and it comes with sashimi and 3 side dishes. I do not recommend Chicken Kamameshi, though, unless you are OK with ground instead of diced chicken. Their sushi is also quite good in ingredients but a bit lacking in craftsmanship.

The price has gone up a bit but still a great sushi restaurant, always fresh and good quality fish. Love that they don't pack a huge piece of rice for the sushi and it shouldn't because you are supposed to eat the sushi in one bite. The restaurant also server rice in a pot (Kamameshi Set) which I also recommend.

I absolutely love this restaurant. Some of the best sushi I have tried. Located on a nice, quiet street in DC. It is upstairs, so keep that in mind if you're mobile impaired. Very small space too, so be prepared to wait. By far the best chirashi bowls I have had. Easily my go to dish here aside from the sushi. I also tasted the eel kamameshi, and it's very good. Love how the rice is cooked to a crisp alongside the metal bowl it's served in. They have a top to keep the dish hot and big tasty chunks of eel throughout. The small side dishes they serve with it are also great. Servers are busy but helpful and nice. Looking forward to coming back!

One of my Japanese colleagues recommended this place as an authentic Japanese experience. I fully agreed!! Clam Kamameshi is a real deal. This place may not meet expectation of somewhat high-end sushi place. However, speaking of authentic flavor, this is the real place. Amazingly, the small side dishes come with Kamameshi offer a full flavor with umami. Definitely, will visit this place again and again.

Best sushi happy hour in DC and some of the best period. The best eel I’ve had, and definitely try the spicy white tuna roll. Amazing hidden gem.

As always this place has never failed in high food quality. Please see the specials (photo);as they are worth exploring. The place is small so go early. The prices have gone up in the past 20 years as expected. Enjoy the best sushi on the Boulevard in an informal environment.

I'd like to have this place near my home. I used to eat here for many years whenever I had a teaching schedule at GU. Kamameshi and chirashi are always tasty. Kamameshi comes with daily varying side dishes, which made me less boring. One minor problem is parking. When I pass by here, it is hard to find finking since safeway was closed.

I must say, dining at this restaurant made me feel like I’m back home in Japan. Despite the inconvenient location and the outdated indoor decor, I was very impressed by the quality of food. I had mackerel oshizushi and eel kamameshi. Both were so good that they could be served in Japan. I highly recommend trying the kamameshi, as you can’t eat this authentic Japanese dish anywhere in the DMV area, or even on the East Coast.
