Excellent spot for Brunch in the Chinatown area. Not too crowded, decent prices and massive portions. My only complaint would be the lack of variety on the menu, but every dish at our table turned out great! They also have bottomless mimosas or bloody mary's for $15 if you're looking for a boozy brunch.
The clam chowder was delicious. I prefer thick chowder and this is thin but it tasted like real New England clam "chowda".
The chorizo stuffers are superb!
The lobster rolls are exceptional!
If you are familiar with Maine/New England lobster and you want to have the real deal, this is the right place to have it.
Beer selection is very good, draft and bottles.
They have a very nice outdoor seating area. Service is excellent.
Cheddar Eggs Benedict was great! Got it with side salad as a lighter option for a bottomless mimosa/bloody mary deal you can't beat.
Food was good but not great. Brussels sprouts and green beans a highlight, fried chicken sandwich excellent. Good portions, but press coffee was barely darker than tea and service was very slow. Nice bar area with capable barkeep. A good place to watch a game.
The downstairs bar is adorable. Great atmosphere. The bar tools are high-class and the cocktails crafty. A very unique experience. The brunch dishes were very good and they offer bottomless mimosas or bloody marys. French press coffee was a real treat. Beware of salt bowls that look like sugar bowls...
Incredible service. Great ambiance. Very relaxed. Generous portions. Best to share larger entre. Even starters are large servings. The Brussels sprout I ate without bacon is delicious, large serving to be shared. Vegetarian quesadilla large portion too. Salad looks great and the salmon my friend ate was excellent. Great cocktail, beer was so good that my friend took a second. Not inexpensive, expect about $50-$60 per person. Does not matter who says anything bad about this place, it just means either they were in a bad mood, or something went wrong at that time, like it does everywhere, for every one. I strongly recommend a visit to Sixth Engine - from phoning in to make a reservation (Stephanie) to eating and enjoying every minute is a pleasant and joyful experience.
This place is awesome! Went here for brunch with some friends and wanted to get mimosas. Problem is I can't drink orange juice due to the acidity level. Asked if they had apple juice and they didn't. Then about 10 minutes later they did! They went out of their way to accommodate me and get apple juice JUST for me!!!!! Can't wait to go back! Great food and great drinks!!!!
I know y'all are closed now, but I wanted to let you know how much my fiance and I enjoyed Sixth Engine. We especially loved the deviled eggs, the hush puppies and eggs benedict at brunch. We loved the atmosphere here, and it was perfect for meeting friends or taking out of town guests. I'll miss the outdoor patio also. I'm very sad that you closed, but I wanted to let you know how much we liked it here.
Visited DC from Wisconsin. haven't had service like that in a long time. Brock was great...new about every item and was very personable! Food was awesome, beer was great and my Wife's cocktail was really good as well.
Would highly recommend to anyone!
I love Sixth Engine's rich and unique history and the food isn't bad either.
Initially I was drawn to Sixth Engine because of the cauliflower appetizer but I've tried quite a few other items on the menu as well. Each time I go into the restaurant it's always busy but the service is pretty friendly and quick.
A rundown of everything I've tried:
Cauliflower bites: These are lightly battered and fried and tossed in a Schezuan-style sauce. The portion is GIGANTIC for $11. I mean, I guess a head of cauliflower probably costs $2 but this was still a great deal. And it was delicious. Win-win.
Cheese curds: SO GOOD ORDER THEM NOW! These are also a pretty decent size and the dipping sauce is a little spicy. They're fantastic.
Cheese dip: The dip is pretty good itself, but the chips could use a little work. The chip is the vessel which carries the gooey, magical cheese into your mouth, and I really feel like it is important for the chip to be delicious as well. The chips were okay, which brought my review on this item down overall.
Brussel sprouts: A little spicy but a decent portion, albeit an expensive one. I usually get these when I'm craving brussel sprouts because they also have bacon in them.
Service is really friendly and efficient. I haven't been to the bar to try the drinks but that's next on my list and hopefully I'll be able to update this review when I do!
