Ray Ray's At The Mayflower

This is a nice hole-in-the-wall restaurant. The space is small, but the food is incredible. I really enjoyed the ube waffle. Instead of the normal toppings a waffle had, I asked for the toppings that the ube pancakes had. They are flexible and willing to change up your order. The location is not far from the beach, either. I recommend checking this restaurant out on your next VA Beach visit.

Last day in Virginia Beach and needed a breakfast place and my Google search led me to Ray Rays and I couldn’t be more pleased. There was no wait because we got there 30 min early cause I forgot to look at the time it opened. We were greeted by Cammie (like in Street Fighter 😊) she sat us and took care of us. She provided us with recommendations and laughter. We really wanted lumpia but they were out BECAUSE it is made fresh so I know it would have been SO GOOD!!! I ordered the Ube sliders and the Phak Attack with a side of Ube Waffles (Cammie recommended all) The Ube sliders were AMAZING!!! I was skeptical because I’ve never had Ube but OMG. So they come out 3 very large sliders and your are thinking omg so much bread but let me tell you…it literally melts in your mouth it’s not starchy and has a subtle taste that I can’t really pinpoint but it’s not as sweet as an Hawaiian sweet roll but better than potato bread. The spam is fried crispy with egg and melted cheese every bite was savory. Do not miss out on ordering these and you could definitely share. The Phak Attack was extremely flavor with the crispy hashbrowns under the scramble you should definitely add the Ray Rays citrus hot sauce to the dish. Lastly was the Ube waffle with Nutella and strawberries. Y’all….it was so good. You do not need to add anything to this waffle. The waffle is perfectly made and the Nutella is a perfect addition. If you are in the area you need to hit them up and they serve breakfast all day me personally it’s my favorite meal of the day!! Lastly the atmosphere pays respect to Hawaii of course which are totally present in the menu. I really wanted to try the loco moco but I feel the choices we made were fantastic.

This place is a nice little restaurant just off the main strip. The food was incredible and hardly any wait. We went to a competitor our first day at the beach and had over an hour wait, we went here the second day and went back every day we could! The food filled you up, was unique, and was reasonably priced. All the staff were kind to us and my baby. I can't stress how much my wife and I enjoyed this place our week at the beach. Give it a try! Also get the smokin hit mermaid sauce! They had 5 different sauces and this was my favorite!

Just did a mark down for the outdoor & indoor seating to be improved, eveything else was great! It got too hot outside when the sun came out. There are umbrellas but a couple of tables outside that didn’t have them, which really is a loss of revenue butttt, they did mention that it might be because of the apartments above throwing things outside of the windows, making it hazardous. So not sure if that something that they can or have been discussing with that apartment complex. It would also be nice to have some kind of waiting area since you can’t sit outside or you can’t sit inside and sometimes you get called early while you’re out and about since there’s no waiting area…really just had a seating & bathroom cleaniness issue. Would want to see this more handicap/stroller accessible, just a little ramp. Also, fans & mists inside & outside coz the poor servers! Food: great portions, not too heavy that you can’t walk around after. Suggest that you order the Ube spam sandwiches for the beach that way you don’t have to leave the beach to go find something to eat. Bonus points if you bring a Ziploc that you can just pack it and go. It was nice to have the sandwiches when we were at the beach, because they were also filling enough. Hot Sauces: you need to buy both Ube & pickle hot sauces! Will defintitely go back, just at an earlier timeframe.

Every experience I have had at Ray Ray’s has never been less than stellar. The service is kind and friendly. The food is unmatched with variety and flavor. This restaurant also embodies recipes that feel like home to the owner and his son while also sharing the culture experience through their food and beverages. I highly recommend this restaurant for local Ms and visitors as their staff takes the utmost care of their customers. If you stop in, don’t forget to try the lumpia, Ube Pancakes, and Red Horse (Filipino beer)!
