Had the taste for soul food, did a quick google search and Della J’s saved the day!!! So happy to report we finally found a Black-owned local soul food spot to frequent! And WE WILL be back!!
Everything and I mean everything from the apps to main dish w/ sides and desserts were absolutely delicious!! I had a feeling they would be based on the reviews and pics we saw from the search, so I made sure to take pics of each item to include here, in hopes of helping to support more. As I write this I realize I didn’t capture a photo of the bread pudding or banana pudding that we ordered for dessert to go… but they were delish! Even my hubby raved about the banana pudding!
Can’t wrap up this review without shouting out Sydney, our waitress, for awesome and quick service with a smile, everytime she came to our table! Happy Holidays Della J! We’ll be back soon!

The best home cooked soul food we have ever tasted! From the time we walked through the door on a busy Sat evening, our party of 6 was treated like family. We knew we picked the right restaurant to eat at when we were greeted with cheerful conversation by various employees. We really enjoyed learning about the history of this fabulous black owned family business by one of the family members herself. The restaurant was extremely clean (including the bathrooms) and also beautifully decorated. Now for the best part... The food! Every single thing we ordered came out hot, fresh and DELICIOUS! Some of the things we had were the fried mushrooms, potato skins, biscuit basket, steak, crab cake, mac & cheese, greens, grits, and my favorite the fried chicken boneless breasts. Our waitress and food runner were extremely friendly and we felt like we were the only ones in the restaurant by the top notch service we received.(and it was a very busy weekend night). I can't speak highly enough about this restaurant and will recommend it to anyone I know who will be in the area. Unfortunately, we live 2 hours away and were in the area for a weekend vacation but we will be sure to come back to visit and one of the first places we will eat will be Della J's. Thank you for providing such a rare experience these days - excellent food AND excellent service!
Everything we had was fantastic. Wings, coconut shrimp and grits, calamari, ribs, chicken and waffles. It was all prepared really well and really delicious.
First of all I had been looking for a soul food restaurant for awhile and Della J’s was suggested. We went on a Thursday evening and there was live music. The music was concert quality, absolutely amazing, but it did make it a bit loud inside. Our server was relatively quick with taking our orders and the food came out piping hot. The portions are quite large, so we were too stuffed for dessert. Overall it was an awesome experience and I can’t wait to go back and try a different dish!
Tried this restaurant and it did not disappoint on our weekend getaway to Alexandria. Service was great ( server was Brandi) food was delicious. I had the stuffed salmon, collards and mashed sweet potatoes. My appetizer was fried green tomatoes. Music was also good.
The food was fantastic! So flavorful! My husband got the jambalaya pasta, and I got the Cajun pasta with chicken. We used to live in New Orleans and this took us back. We can’t wait to go back to try the red velvet waffles and chicken. Our server (Sydney) was genuine and easy to talk to. The rest of the staff was equally personable and warm. We will definitely be going back!
This restaurant was recommended and it was worth the 2 hour drive from Richmond. The food was well made and the staff was courteous and knowledgeable. Loved the experience all around. Will return soon.
This is a restaurant that moved from Springfield, VA, into this building which was previously a Ruby Tuesday. An upgrade from their original location. Spacious and well decorated. The food was great. We started with the hush puppies. I had the jambalaya. My dining companions had pork chops and the chicken biscuit. All delicious. Our server was excellent. A live jazz band on Thursday nights. Check it out.
We tried this place for the first time and we'll definitely be back. They would have got 5 stars but I'm big on customer service and so i dont like when you as a customer walk in the place and 3 employees are talking to each other not helping anyone and see you but just stand there and don't speak. However, the place quickly redeemed themselves once we were seated. Our server was amazing, great personality and took care of us from start to finish. The drinks, food, atmosphere was great. The music played at a perfect volume and I feel like we were enjoying the music just as much as the food. On Thursday nights they have live music. All in all I'd definitely recommend giving this place a try.
This is my second visit and my first take out order. The food was delicious as it was when I ate on location. Highly recommend location. Great parking - kid friendly- wheelchair accessibility. 8/25/23 - I am now a regular with DellaJ's its getting better and better. I enjoy the jazz sets on Thursday evening. The food is delicious along with the variety of desserts offered. The staff is professional,well informed and attentive. Stop by and have a bit to eat and relax. Great free parking.❤️
