Today was my first time here in hopes to have some delicious Peruvian food. I was not let down and had delicious Papa Rellena and plátano maduro/frito. As a Peruvian who has tried many different restaurants in the Chicago land area, I would say that the prices are good too. The staff was very nice too.
The food was tasty and it was a short wait. Plenty of food to pick from and the plantains were cooked different. Plenty of parking. Would have given 5 stars but the rest room could have been a little cleaner. Cuban, Mexican, & Peruvian Food!
La Unica has been my go to Latin American restaurant for quite a few years now. I've taken and suggested many friends come here. Never have I heard a bad thing from anyone. My favorites are the rabo de res and costillas de puerco en salsa verde. The quality and quantity has been very consistent in my experience.
My late friend introduced me to this hidden gem a few years ago. They have the BEST empanadas. Their empanadas are huge and always made to perfection. They're packed with flavor and seasoned to precision. Their Cuban empanadas pairs perfectly with their green sauce, and their Colombian empanadas come with the most delicious Ají.
I typically put my order in and run over to the Korean super market a few stores down to do my groceries and come back to pick them up after. I don't live too far, and they are always still nice and hot whenever I get home with them.
Also, I personally haven't tried any of their entrees, but my late friend has had his fare share of the menu before he passed, and he still sang praises of all of the meals he's had there.
So, if you're debating on swinging by, don't hesitate and just give them a try!
Great oxtails , Pozole's really good as well, Cuban tamales I really like too.. have a interesting menu, lots of stuff to try , but the three things I mentioned above being so good it's hard to order other stuff
This restaurant is one of a kind. There's a wide variety of entrees and sides. The empanadas and popusas are delicious!
