Truly New York Flavor... With San Francisco Prices .. but, worth EVERY penny
For a Homesick New Yorker (foodwise), this is the p-lace to go.

Very messy bagels, with cream cheese smeared all around the exterior of the bagel. The bagel itself was pretty good, but they really need to clean up the schmear-job.
I have been in SF for more than 30 years and am ashamed to say I have never been to House of Bagels until today. Wow.....So unique in many ways. The various bagels, sweet breads, and sandwiches are amazing. The only seating area is a countertop but on a nice day you can sit near the Park Presidio benches. The customer service person or possibly the owner was very pleasant and oriented to my questions of the food items on display. I definitely will be returning next time I am able.
Pretty decent bagels at House of Bagels. We love the different options. O man. Talk about options. That True New Yorker $13 was a gem. Cream cheese, salmon, capers, fresh tomato and red onions. The Morning Start $9 came with avocado, cheese and egg. It was delicious! We also got a few bagels for later. The only drawback was, later in the evening, they didn't taste as good because the bagels turned chewy and tough. All in all, it was a good experience standing on the sidewalk on Geary eating tasty bagels.
We stopped by House of Bagels to make our selections which were going to be enjoyed at the Presidio tunnel tops. I got the New Yorker for a classic lox and cream cheese experience. Many varieties of bagels to choose from. They are good bagels not fast bagels. Stop by and grab your next bag of bagels at the house of bagels
Soft and chewy, this is as close to a real New York bagel you are going to get in San Francisco. It's been around since 1962 for a reason. We got lucky and got in a few minutes before a huge rush with a line quickly out the door. Service was quick and helpful. Not much seating but you're not here for the ambiance. Grab a mixed dozen for $16 and enjoy.
Decent bagels but not stand out. The filling options are good. I got the Flightless bird - turkey was super moist but unfortunately whilst it looks promising, the whole thing lacked that oomph of flavour. Staff were friendly though!
Excellent taste. The people working there weren't that friendly, but we loved the flavors. The vegan falafel bagel option is no longer offered, but you can build your own.
Excellent food and service! Haven't had a toasted bialy w/ butter in forever. Their's was Fab! Got a black & white and a lingerie tart. YUM! As Arnold said: "I'll be back!"
This place was a wonderful surprise. We found it on a walk from our hotel and just happened to come across it on our way back from dinner. Went back the following morning and was greeted by the entire staff. It wasn't busy but we were early on a Sunday of a three day weekend and it wouldn't surprise me if most people were still asleep. The bagels were delicious. I had the New York and was surprised by how much salmon they put on it. It was almost too much as I could barely bite into it. Is that a complaint? My husband had the everything bagel with garlic cream cheese and said it was delicious. If we ever come back to San Francisco, we will be back. I'll buy a bag of bagels for home.
White fish salad, chopped liver, bagels, lox, rugulah, hamantashen and much, much more, all totally great...forget about it! And a great cup of coffee, you enjoy!
