Sometimes the universe conspires to put you in the right place at the right time for amazing experiences. Today was definitely one of those days with planets aligning to ensure we found Alma Cocina for lunch. They only just opened a few weeks ago, and we entered by chance, after exploring the vibrant art of Balmy Alley, drawn to the warm energy, delicious smells and enticing menu. We were welcomed with warm smiles the friendly hospitality of the beautiful staff and owners and instantly felt one with the stylish decor, gorgeous wooden paneling of the bar and warm ambiance created within. While waiting for my meal I indulged in a delicious and creative soju cocktail called "Fake News"... it's flavors where hypnotizing, and honestly i could have lapped up fake news all day. (Don't worry though it's the only fake news i'm ever likely to consume while in the US) I had the Andean Style Chicharron, and it was one of the most breathtakingly delicious culinary experiences I experienced while in America. The pork was cooked to perfection and melted in my mouth delicately enveloped by the simple yet complementary flavors of the mint, micro onions and other accompaniments and bound together beautifully by the bold contrast of the uchucuta sauce. Heaven in a dish if i've ever experienced it, and definitely the beginning of my love affair with Andean and Peruvian cuisine. The food here was amazing, an absolute gastronomical delight to the senses, the recipes a mix of local and Peruvian cuisine combined with herbs and spices from the Andes and the best of fresh local produce, an alchemical genius bar manager and cocktail guru. The food was only outdone by the warm and embracing hospitality and service. 100% recommend checking this place out if you're ever in San Francisco.

Refered by a client of mine. Surprised my wife by going to "somewhere different " Saturday night. Neither of us knew what to expect ,we were both pleasantly satisfied and not surprised. Made a reservation and were greeted and seated by Will. Mentioned that we were new to the cuisine and his demeanor was casual and professional. I like spice to a point, and my wife won 't even put pepper on fried eggs so we were about to order. He smiled and suggested the perfect meal for us both. We had appetizers ( ribs ) ( asparagus) and both were great. Our main courses were ( she had a fish dish) mine was a paella type with a far better taste than the traditional Spanish type. So, in conclusion, it's a clean, efficient, friendly place to go with grrreat food. I love seeing employees smile. I guess the owner is a good person to work for. I wish all who experience Alma, enjoy all it did for us.

Came here for a few friends bday dinner. We had 15 people so we were forced to separate into two tables. Our server was very friendly and helpful, but our drinks took awhile to come out cause they only had one bartender. Our food was tasty, but the portion was general small, so make sure your order plenty of food. Overall, this place is good, but I don't think I can recommend it for a group more than 8. Any bigger and you are gonna end up in two tables like us.

Second dinner here was as spectacular as the first. Notably, their service is spot on (no hipster intentional nonchalance here!). Friendly and efficient staff, all very knowledgeable about the restaurant and menu offerings; genuine food people themselves. I’m letting the pictures speak for the food, as it’s as delicious as it looks.

Our new favorite Peruvian spot! Not only was the food delicious, it came out crazy fast from the kitchen (from the time we walked in the door to the time we finished eating it was only 45 mins). On top of that you can tell they've put unique ingredients into the dishes to ensure they're really embodying true Peruvian cuisine. Also - just take a look at the killer desserts in the pics below. To die for. We will be back!!

Nice Peruvian restaurant. Ceviche was great, best I ever had in San Francisco. The prices fit in the range of the city.

The chicken was divine. Perfectly cooked and flavorful. The sides of baked fries, and stir fry rice were very good. The tuna ceviche was the best ceviche I've ever had. The octopus was just OK, but the service and the sangria Blanco more than made up for it. Best meal I've had in SF in years. Edit: Sangria Roja even better than the Blanco.

Amazing food and service! I had the grilled octopus and it was very tasty, both crunchy and soft, great flavors. Nice ambience as well.

The Chinese-inspired ceviche was great, although a bit on the salty side by the end due to the soy. Still, would go back again.

Happened by this place after a matinee. Everything was delicious and a better value than we expected based on previous Peruvian dining (usually small portions and big price), and my cocktail just might be the prettiest drink I've ever been served. We will be back and have already recommended it to a few people!
