If you're on the south side of the city, craving Korean food/BBQ, and don't feel like schlepping to the Richmond then come to Hwaro! It's more traditional than Namu but still has some California flair. The Korean bar food is tasty (corn cheese, and did someone say Korean fried chicken?!?), plus they have more traditional BBQ (not cook at the table bit sizable portions on a sizzzzzzzling plate), dishes and soups. And they have their beer/wine license now so get some soju!!
Great kimchi. Love the open space. There was an unique dish I tried but forgot the name. Overall, great place for a family meal.
Delicious Korean comfort food. Scaled down menu given the times, but you'll still find plenty of dishes to enjoy. Excellent chicken wings, tasty hangover soup. Great taste and value. Highly recommend Hwaro, and it's the only Korean food you'll find in the area.
Love all the dishes we order!! Highly recommended!
We ordered bulging stuffed mushroom, spinach salad, japchae, fried chicken ( so nice that they allow us to request all the flat wings). All of the dieshes were delicious, especially the wings- love how jcrunchy they were on the outside and juicy on the inside.
The bathrooms (yes, there are two!!!) Were super clean which is a plus.
Tips,
1) Wednesday special 50% of all bottle of wines
2) Get a 10% discount ( while promotion is still last) if check in on Yelp!
Fried chicken was actually ‘fried chicken wings’
it was good. they served sweet and sour radish pickles(if you don’t get this, that is not true Korean fried chicken combo :p)
Wish they have original whole fried chicken ver not just wings!!
Better than Stone bowl in the height and better prices! Good portions and everything. Definitely recommend!
Friendly folks and delicious food. The pandemic menu is limited but what's available is good (and well-suited to takeout). The fried chicken is flavorful and wonderfully crispy. I'd like a vegetarian soup option, but that gives me another reason to go back after vaccine-prevalence. :)
Yum yum yum. Had the KFC and kimchi fried rice and I'll have it again, and again, and again. They say wings but these are the biggest, juiciest, meatiest cuts totally worth trying.
Local business is so easy to suport when it's this good. I'll be happy to try the menu.
Such a wonderful dinner!! Truly a gem. MUST try the beef short ribs, and the Korean ramen was fantastic as well. Also had the taco trio as an appetizer. We will definitely be back!
A lovely new trendy restaurant serving classic Korean fare with an American touch. I personally had a fantastic experience dining at Hwaro and would certainly recommend it to close friends and family who enjoy Korean BBQ, fried chicken, sizzling platters, etc. If you aren't familiar with this cuisine I would recommend the green bean sizzling appetizer which is to-fricking-die-for, The fried chicken (which you can order half of one flavor and half of another if you aren't sure) , or if you're more in the mood for beef, I recommend the sizzling bulgogi platter (which is a massive serving; feeds 3-4 easily). I'm sure regardless of what you end up ordering, you will have a memorable and magical time dining here.
Food was delicious and Customer Service was on point, servers went above and beyond! Minor setbacks was our group table lacked lighting and we thought there would be more banchon, typical of korean restaurants.
Great new place, with good music and friendly vibe. And now they have their liquor license and have 4 taps in service. Today they have Ballast Point Sculpin IPA, Blue Moon, Sapporo and Calicraft Kolsch. They've also begun to serve stone bowl bibimbab! Yum!
