I grew up on the counter of this place, Lily would often watch newborn me while my mom took a nap, at Lily's behest, and carry me around feeding me guacamole all day. Their guac recipe hasn't changed, nor has the love with which they make their food, and despite my having lived away from the city for about 10 years now, they're still my first and last stop wheneveri come to visit. The burritos spoil me, their meat is prepared perfectly, and their guac is still the best I know. Probably picking a Grande Chili Verde today.

Authentic home-cooked family-run delicious and affordable
I ordered via a delivery app that charged me but La Canasta didn't get the order. The lady was so kind and understanding, she still got my order for me and told me she would handle it. The burrito I had was incredible and I can't get one like it again back home. When I'm back in San Fran, I'll definitely be popping by again!
La Canasta is a San Francisco staple. Always delicious and enjoyable
Wonderful home style Mexican food. Very well priced. Cooked to order as you wait. The same family has run La Canasta for over 25 years. At least 15 at this location. The original location was just a few blocks away. Lovely family, traditional food.
A very solid choice for lunch, no regrets. I had a grande carnitas burrito. it was pretty good my only regret would be that I got mild salsa since it was basically just tomatoes and onions I’d definitely get the medium or hot next time. It’s a super small place but has the cutest mom and pop feel ever!
Wow. Stumbled upon this place after Flores was too busy. The food here is amazing! I had the carnitas tacos and tortilla soup - so good. My friend had a burrito, which was awesome.
Great chips and guacamole too.
Also the people are so nice. Strongly recommend!
I was recommended to this place by a coworker, and I love her for it. At first I was hesitant, because as a Native, you just don’t get Mexican food outside of the mission. But I was like “ehh why not” I ordered just a regular burrito, and it was huge. The person who took my order was so nice, and humble! I was greeted with smiles! I ordered to go, and after about 5 minutes my burrito was ready. They cook the meat AS NEEDED, so my meat was fresh off the grill. After I got my burritto, I left out. I was about half a block down from the shop when I took my first bite. It was so good I had to come back and let them know how good it was. Take from a SAN FRANCISCO NATIVE, this spot is a hidden gem!

I ordered only vegetarian dishes: the food was great. Especially the burrito is very tasty. The ladies who run the shop were friendly and gave la canasta authenticity.
I work in the neighborhood. I'm born and raised in SF and it is so refreshing to meet such lovely people who work here. Definitely some of the best Mexican food in SF and I can't say enough about the WONDERFUL people who work there. AWESOME!!
Really good burritos. The garden veggie is super light but still yummy, especially with a dash of hot sauce. It can take a while to place and pickup an order.
Exceptional local take out place for quality home made Mexican food. Everything we tried was delicious. I'm particularly partial to their carnitas tacos. The gentleman managing the place is a delight to talk to. A real neighborhood gem.
