One of the top 3 crab restaurant in San Francisco. Not only roasted crabs, but their Vietnamese appetizers are pretty good - don’t forget Flaming Beef which is not only tasty but very entertaining. Owner family is all fun people.
The service was warm and very prompt. Ordering for 2 we started with the flaming beef and shrimp dish. The pot cooks at your table was served with wraps, lettuce, mint, etc all extremely fresh. The flavors were heaven and the presentation was a lot of fun. Great starter! Their roast crab came next. They have a signature way of doing it. Wow. I am a big fan of PPQ crab but La Vie exceeded it. Amazing crab. Served with wonderful garlic noodles. Most menu items are inexpensive. We chose two of the high end ones. Next time we are bringing more people, ordering 1 crab and additional plates which should be a fantastic dinner experience and affordable per person too.
Cozy little Vietnamese restaurant. The flaming beef and shrimp with rice paper wrapper is an experience everyone should try.
The food is so good here that it needs to be rated as top quality! They will customize an order so you have the best experience! The vegetables, noodles and meats all go so well together! The staff are family and look to satisfy! Prices are a bit above the "jack in the box" type, but the food and dining experience are worth the few pennies extra!
We are regulars at La Vie and love it. As a family of 4, with different tastes, everyone enjoys the food at La Vie. It is for "special" nights when we feel like being casual. The price is great for the quality of food. Friends are always impressed. We brought friends from Sri Lanka and they thought it was the best crab they ever had. Burning beef and garlic noodles are also excellent and unique. You are in great hands with Sylvia and Hanson who are always there to make your night special.
This under-appreciated little gem has low traffic but seems to live off of deliveries. There's a reason for that. Somewhat secluded from the city, in Richmond, it sees less foot-traffic, but the time saved on serving, is gained in the love they seem to put into making the food.
I can't speak for the whole menu, but I've had the Pho there many times and every time it's great and served with a friendly and welcoming smile. Their broth is amazing.
It should also be mentioned that the prices are quite reasonable.
I will keep coming back as long as they'll let me.
Decent food, but overpriced crab at ~$70
This one of those local “hidden gems” type of restaurants… Asian, Vietnamese food with unique chief twist and nice selection of fusion type of Asian-inspired dishes. Tried most of the menu and cannot clearly pick any clear winners – everything tasting pretty awesome!!!
It all starts with a warm reception by the owners, a very clean decor and then food that is simply so delicious, so creative I have to say "simply" AWESOME! Have something in mind that isn't on the menu? No problem, if it is possible they will prepare for you. See something on the menu you want to tweak? No problem, just ask. We go often as a couple and have had several extended family dinners here including kids some in their 90's and everything in between, No problem! Sylvia, Mom and Uncle all make it work perfectly and make you feel like you are the most important table of the day, everyday!
With much gratitude I sincerely recommend enjoying La Vie!!
I like this place better than PPQ for vietnamese style crabs. the la vie house special crabs is where its at - the roe or orange innards are stir-fryed in la vie's house seasonings and is so flavorful. garlic noodles are good. there's a flaming beef appetizer that is actually pretty impressive to watch the prepartion, but the taste was just ok.
