One of the best Italian restaurants in San Diego. My wife, mother-in-law, and I went here for lunch and the food was superb. If you are looking for a fast paced, busy, and loud Italian restaurant; this is not the place for you. The atmosphere is very mellow bistro. When we went there was only one waitress. She was super polite and as attentive as she could be seeing as she had to tend to the nearly packed small restaurant. Meals were fairly cheap and the flavors of all our dishes were uniquely different. I recommend tasting the teriyaki scallops, they were a delicious appetizer, and perked up our interest for our main course
. My wife, for her main course, ordered the uni pasta. Her mother ordered the Kani and Scallop pasta, and I had the salmon pasta. Each were delicious and had a uniquely distinct flavor. These were not dishes the are mass produced in some large kitchen, but hand made to order with exquisite sauces with original flavor. If you are looking for a quiet place to talk and enjoy a good meal, I would definitely recommend Kaz Bistro.

I absolutely love Japanese comfort food. And Bistro Kaz does it right.
You need to get the corn soup. They make it from scratch. I’m not sure how they do it, but they are able to stuff corn aroma, essence, and punch into it.
The cold cod roe angel hair pasta is soothing with a touch of decadence with the roe and ikura.
Comfort food is meant to be heavy, but Bistro Kaz is able to thread the needle. You leave with a warm, full belly without feeling like you’ve eaten a ton of bricks.
New favorite in all of SD. We got the Uni spread (comes with 4 large pieces of bread), unagi pizza, fries, pumpkin soup, deep fried brie cheese balls. Best menu ever with actual new and innovative dishes and also some old authentic faves that never get old. Everything I got here was delicious and worth it. Going back to try more soon. Our server Meg was excellent and sweet. Kudos to the service and the chef!
Also, Google got their times wrong and apparently they can't change it, but they close at 9, not 10.
Part of me doesn't want to review this place because it's such a hidden gem and I want it to stay hidden, but it's too nice of a place to not tell everyone! It's my favorite place to get Japanese Italian food. I haven't had a pasta dish that disappointed me, and my brother loves the demi glace Hamburg steak. Everything just tastes so fresh and the staff is always so friendly.
A pretty good experience. This is an Asian-Italian fusion restaurant. I haven’t eaten other dishes but these dishes are light, creative, delicious. Kinda small proportion even for a small Asian girl like me. So, don’t be too shocked.

I have been here twice on two consecutive days. That should say everything , right? After the first visit I was so eager to try out more. The execution of the food was amazing, well seasoned and not skimping on fresh ingredients. The seafood doria was awesome. The lobster pizza though was a bit of a disappointment. Not that it didn’t taste good, you just either couldn’t taste the lobster because there was so much cheese on it or had a hard time to even find pieces of lobster. I would reimagine this dish to make the lobster shine more! The omelet too could get more of a Japanese treatment and be more silky and smooth. It would still go well with the Italian meat sauce.

excellent food! The unagi pizza looked & sounded great from all the reviews and this one didn't disappoint. It was super easy to split half a pizza & half a pasta dish (we had the cod roe pasta). I would definitely come back again for squid ink pasta & given soba is generally served cold - I am curious if the roe cold pasta one is inspired by soba. I thought the portions were good for what we got & the quality of the food.
Steak was awesome! I don't usually like getting steak when I eat out at new places because I always feel like if I wanted good steak I can always grill it myself and it would be better... but this was pretty good and I would definitely come back here for it again! The Seafood/Squid ink spaghetti is really good too! It's kind of hard to find in San Diego so make sure to come here and try it! It's a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for! The appetizers are really good as well!
This place is a gem. They are not offering any flashy dishes but simply good quality food with great value!
The place has a great vibe! The decoration is tasteful, simple and classic. The moment you walk in, you will smell coffee aroma and the scent of sweet cream. I love it.

I contest that some of the best pasta dishes in San Diego can be found at our small handful of Italian-Japanese restaurants. The "best known" place like this is Shin's in La Jolla, but the best spot to actually dine at is definitely Bistro Kaz on Convoy.
My favorite squid ink pastas are unapologetic about the squid ink like Bistro Kaz's. Here, the squid ink is used as more than just food color, and you can taste and enjoy its glorious oceanic brininess. Ample amounts of meaty squid chunks are also included. It's a fairly intense and umami-fied dish, but thankfully some fresh elements on the plate help keep it balanced.
While you're at Bistro Kaz, check out their ultra-flavorful consommé, a soup that will leave you scratching your head about how they figured out how to liquefy the best roasted meat dish you've had this month. Also, this is one of the few restaurants in San Diego serving "Omurice," a Japanese fusion food consisting of a fluffy egg omelet filled with rice that has become popular in Japan with late night revelers. At Bistro Kaz, I suggest the variant served with stewed beef hayashi sauce that is named "Omuhayashi."
amazing. love the choices and the food is always delicious we come here really often. its a good place for lunch as they have alot of casual japanese dishes yet still high quality! would also recommend Izakaya Sakura which is across the street with the same owner 😋
