I enjoyed this Indian restaurant, particularly for its North Indian and Punjabi cuisine. Their lunch and dinner combos are reasonably priced and quite satisfying. The staff is friendly and accommodating.
Finally! A Taste of Authenticity Discovered at Delhi Kitchen
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Wow! Flavorful and delicious! I recently had the pleasure of eating dinner at Delhi Kitchen, a hidden gem located in Poway, CA and the delicious aroma hits you as soon as you walk in the door. This unassuming little restaurant with just a few tables and chairs is tucked away in the Trader Joe’s shopping center. It’s plain decor shouldn’t fool you; this is the best Indian food I’ve had since leaving Indian food mecca San Francisco and moving to San Diego a few years ago.
As a discerning lover of Indian cuisine, my experience was nothing short of exceptional. From start to finish, every aspect of my meal was a delight, and I left with a newfound appreciation for the authentic flavors of Delhi Kitchen. Simple and authentic homemade Indian food is what you’ll find here.
I opted for the entree of Bombay Potatoes, Chana Dal, Steamed Long Grain Basmati Rice and Chapati bread. From the first bite, it became evident that the dishes were prepared with utmost care and expertise. The seasoning was exquisite, adding just the right amount of heat and spice to awaken my taste buds, without overpowering the natural flavors of the food.
The Bombay potatoes were tender, perfectly cooked, and bursting with a medley of aromatic spices. The Chana Dal, with its creamy texture and rich flavors, was full of body & depth - and left me craving for more. My husband looked at me after taking a few bites and said “SO good. I could eat this every day “. The steamed rice provided a light and fragrant accompaniment, complementing the robustness of the main dishes. And oh, the Chapati bread! It was warm, soft, and served as the perfect vehicle to scoop up the delicious morsels. I added some chicken and a Samosa to share with my husband. The samosa was crisp and falsely on the outside and soft and flavorful on the inside. Heavenly. The chicken was perfectly seasoned, nice and juicy.
What truly set Delhi Kitchen apart from other Indian restaurants was an unmistakable personal touch. It felt as though I was being transported to the home of an Indian grandmother, where every dish was crafted with love and culinary mastery. The flavors were so well-balanced and authentic that it felt like a true representation of Indian home cooking.
The service at Delhi Kitchen was impeccable, with friendly and attentive staff who made me feel welcome throughout my visit. The cozy and inviting atmosphere added to the overall charm of the restaurant, making it an informal place I will undoubtedly visit on a weekly basis. I was delighted to learn they also offer a to-go menu as well as catering.
In conclusion, Delhi Kitchen is a culinary treasure that has won my heart and taste buds over. With its exceptional food, seasoned to perfection, and a genuine taste of Indian home cooking, this establishment has truly raised the bar when it comes to offering an unforgettable eating experience. We went back the next day for more.
If you're in Poway and looking for an informal place to savor the true essence of Indian cuisine, look no further than Delhi Kitchen. You’ll be glad you did!
Samosa’s were crispy and warm even 15 mins after taking them home. The 2 sauces it came with (the green spicy & brown sweet) were a perfect pairing. The mango lassi was incredibly fresh & thick.
Will be returning to try an entire meal soon.
Food is really good. Tried chicken tikka masala & lentils & they were great !!!
A solid four stars for this quick-service Indian place. Good points include budget prices and generous servings of food with plenty of protein pieces. Doesn't hit five stars because the food is not the tastiest I've had in San Diego. Fresh and wholesome but bland. Most people get the specials which include main dishes with salad, rice and naan bread.
Outdoor seating is available. Decor is tired but you're not coming to a place like this for the decor. I'll probably keep trying new Indian places than return to this one anytime soon.
Tried it for the first time, it was good but not the best. Got the Paneer tikka masala and i liked it, but the sides could be better. lentils were watery and salad was plain. I did not like the kheer (rice pudding) but Ive never had it before anywhere, so maybe its just not for me. i like the texture of the naan
We ate here twice while in San Diego. It's pretty convenient and quick if you're ordering a combo since its already prepared and they'll just add a warm naan with your plate. It's not super hot but still flavorful. Staff is fairly friendly especially the aunty at the front counter is always smiling. Pretty decent pricing for the portion of combos that you get.
Great combo meals and a la carte options. Fast and good quality.
first time today and food was good and inexpensive. they offer 2-3 dish combos plus fresh naan. if you are on the go and want something quick, this is definitely the spot.
I love that they have music videos from india playing and this soda from India I never had called “Thumbs Up”. It was good priced tjey have a lunch and dinner deal for 2 or 3 items, includes rice and naan bread. The naan is pretty thin so not my fav but everything else was tasty. It didn’t take long to get my order.
