I wandered upon this place just by walking down 4th Avenue. I was amazed by the Caribbean feel just by walking past. I am of Trinidadian/Caribbean decent and had to see what this place is all about. There is no other Caribbean place like it. The food was well priced and wouldn’t mind paying more for the oxtail dish I had with red beans and rice. I specifically asked for a rum punch to add to the experience. The music matched the ambiance and really could imagine a dance club on the weekend and a steel pan player during the week. This place has potential to be the Caribbean go to spot of downtown. I’m glad it’s there for people who enjoy the culture, spices, and music of the royal Caribbean.

I didn't know what to expect when we walked in, the place it's beautiful, clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. We order yuca frita, mofongo, los tres golpes and 2 mojito and everything was excellent. The presentation of the food, the decoration, the flavor and the quality were amazing. We are soooo going back. The attentions of our waiter from the Dominican Republic Juanafer and Jeremy the bartender was great. We also love the prices and the variety of Caribbean cuisine. I am so glad I have a place to go with I am craving Caribbean food.
We’ve come here numerous times already, we bring all our friends that are out of town to try this spot, all day the same. The food and staff are great! It’s family operated and the food is authentic and vibe is very tropical. The food is very tasteful i would definitely recommend trying the plantain sandwich with cheese and salami from the Dominican Republic, since it’s a signature meal in the country. I would also recommend the oxtail the sauce it’s cooked in is very flavorful and I can guarantee you’ll love it. As an appetizer I would suggest the friend Yucca with the mayo-ketchup sauce. It’s really good as well.
Excellent customer service experience. They are attentive and friendly. I love the food there!!!! I recommend this restaurant to everyone and anyone looking for a change in their taste buds. Tropical Savor is my spot!
Oh my gosh. So delicious. Pictures of coconut fish, fried sweet plantain (Maduro) and yucca fries. Friendly staff and fast service. I'll be back on my next San Diego visit!
Tried this place last night, and it was very good! It is new to the Gaslamp, but an excellent choice. From the Dominican Republic, the owners offer a very tasty Caribbean menu that is pleasingly different from the rest of the eateries in the Gaslamp area. At this time, the prices are very reasonable and there are Happy Hour specials. The service is good, and Haley helped make the dinner excellent. Highly recommended!
The staff was very accommodating to our large group, it was a little slow on getting the food after ordering, but there were quite a few people there at the time.
The food was delicious, I enjoyed chicken wings, fried plantain n cheese sandwiches as my appetizers and a non alcoholic island style punch, and for my main course I had the Beef Ribs with a side of Rice n Beans. The Ribs had a pot roast style and flavor to them, unique style of ribs but rather good. Now I have to admit that I was expecting more of a sweet n spicy sauce to them.
They have very pretty tropical drinks that looked flavourful and served up with Island flare.
The over all establishment was very clean and roomy not too crowded.
Now they do need to work on the staff being a little but quicker and the host or hostes being more welcoming and outgoing ushering people in off the street that are looking but not quite sure if they want to stop.
I would recommend this place to others.
