Excellent pork dishes, soup, and flan! A meal of our favorites is the Pernil de Puerco entree, house soup, toasted garlic bread, a side of ripe fried plantains, and flan for dessert. This is the best authentic Cuban/Puerto Rican restaurant I've found in San Diego. I have yet to find another restaurant that takes such pride is serving high quality food in good portions at a fair price. They set the standard for true mom and pop restaurants. Their wait staff is very friendly and happy to answer questions and make recomendations. I've been coming here since 1987 and have enjoyed each experience. Update: They are now open for regular dining and the wait staff wears masks. The food is as excellent as before! Update: Gone are the weekly specials and add-on soup to entrees. The portions have returned to the pre-COVID fair value amounts. Everything is consistently excellent! Update: Got our faves, Pernil de Puerco, white bean soup, fried ripe plantains, and flan. Excellent as usual! Sadly the owners are retiring and the restaurant will serve their last meals on 9/24/22. Update: For our last meal we got Pernil de Puerco, fried ripe plantains, a Cubano sandwich, and flan. Everything eas excellent. It's very sad that this will be our last chance to eat their authentic delicious food. I'm glad to have been able to eat here since 1987.
My wife blurted out of the blue that she wanted to try Cuban food. I searched the San Diego area and found this place so we gave it a try. Neither of us had ever tried Cuban food before, so it was a bit of an adventure for us. We knew that plantains were a staple in Cuban cuisine and wanted to try that. We ordered a pork sandwich which used plantain instead of bread, and papas rellenas, which is a potato ball stuffed with ground beef, battered and fried. Both selections were excellent. We will definitely return to sample more of the menu. The only negative I can mention is that we sat around for quite a while after finishing our meal, waiting for the check.. We finally decided to walk up to the counter to pay the bill. We're still not sure how they prefer to handle the payment.
Best Arroz Con Pollo in the City! Very authentic. Absolutely love this place. It's small and romantic. Family owned. I've been going there for over 10 years and it's nice to still see the same freindly faces every time I go...and it's super affordable!
Awesome, down home, Caribbean cooking. Healthy portions at a very reasonable price. Great service with a smile. I'll go back again and again.
1st time here and we ❤️ loved it, food, service all very very good !! Definitely coming back !
Recommendation = 100%
Btw... here again for The 2nd time and lovin’ it ! I forgot to mention that they also play nice 🎶 music 🎼
So I haven't been here in a bit but refer people here all the time. I've been coming to this restaurant since the late 90's and I've always enjoyed the atmosphere. Also to see the same friendly faces...the Brazilian hostess whose name I always forget, who unfortunately wasn't here today and Alfonso, who I did get to see. People stay because they're treated right and it has that family feel.
Today I had the Picadillo (seasoned ground beef w/ potatos, peas, onions and so on) Lunch Special. It's served with white rice, delicious black beans and fried ripe sweet plantain. I also ordered crispy fried plantain w/ mojo de ajo (garlic "marinade" dipping sauce). I drank 2 maltas (malt beverage drink) and for dessert I ate some flan. I can't emphasize how delicious my food was. That flan is the bomb. It's better than the flan from another restaurant of the carribean persuasion that I went to recently but whose comparing Every now and then you just need to connect to your roots and what better way than thru the food and music. I definitely recommend this restaurant.
Walked in and you're welcomed with a smile and once through the doors you're greeted with the sweet aroma of garlic. So far, the drive here and requested the mofongo (only made on Sundays) was worth it. The staff said yes!!! And we just walked in!!! Found this gem on Instagram and so happy we opted for Andrés tonight.
***on vacation from Tampa! Thank you for accommodating us this evening!!!
great tasting food on point! no leftovers! will definitely come back for more.
Amazing!!! Just move to San Diego and I was missing Puerto Rico and nothing better to remind me of home than food! I order pollo a la plancha (chicken) plate y pernil (pork) plate for me in my husband both came with delicious rice and they even gave us curtesy garlic bread! We picked it up and eat it home! Delicious! If your looking for a nice quality Caribbean food this is the place to go! Can’t wait to try the flan next time! Note: the photo is from my house NOT the restaurant! The restaurant has dinning pretty nice.
