And well it should. The moment you enter, you feel as if you're in old Mexico. The decor & the ambience is just right, or should I say, "Muy Bueno"!!
But wait,, we came for the comida & bebidas. "DELICIOSO"!! Trust me Amigo, you will have to search far & wide to improve on this Mexican Fiesta!!
Our first objective on a recent visit to San Diego was to find some good mexican food, and opted for La Pinata, which we learned is Old Town's oldest restaurant, tucked away from the over-crowded main drag. I consider myself to be a chile relleno connoisseur, and their's was absolutely the best I've ever tasted!! The atmosphere is festive, adorned with dozens of pinatas and the service was friendly and prompt. We enjoyed it so much that we came back a few nights later!
After an afternoon of dodging tourists and others at Old Town, duck in here for food and drink. It's not overly crowded (even on a summer Saturday evening), but still hits the spot. Nice atmosphere, and good tables inside or outside. For food? Chile Colorado + una Cerveza Bohemia = a delightful end to the day!
LOVE La Piñata! Every time we come to San Diego on vacation we make it a priority to stop there after we visit the Mormon Battalion Museum up the street. The atmosphere is fun and festive. They bring you chips and salsa and a giant crunchy tortilla with melted cheese on it when you are first seated (both super yummy!). Service is super quick, our waitresses have always super nice and personable and the portions are plenty big.... Even the kids meals are big enough for my littles to share. Totally recommend!
Ok... I'm from Texas. ... and I LOVE TEX MEX! We heard great things about this place. ... it is where the locals eat. While the food isn't as spicy as I am used to. ..I was very pleased with the Chili Relleno and the shredded Beef Taco Combo.
Quaint place. In addition to the chips and salsa, the waitress brought us a fried tortilla with melted cheese on it. It was fabulous.
Our meal was really yummy and everyone left satisfied. Our waitress was very personable and the food came out quickly.
I would recommend this place if you're in the area.
The service was friendly and prompt. The serving size huge for a very reasonable price. I enjoyed the ambiance and would recommemd to my friends.
Pretty good. The chips were TERRIBLE. They were break your teeth crunchy and over fried. Therefore, I was very skeptical of the food before it even came out. Thankfully, my carnitas verde was very very good. The beans (my litmus test for Mexican) were delicious. Probably not the best or most authentic in Old Town, but it was still good. The decor & staff costumes were pretty cheesy and took away from the experience.

I just moved into the area, so I was looking to find my new local hot spots. This place is a great mom and pop Mexican restaurant that I highly recommend. The food was wonderful, and the portion sizes are not skimpy. Also, the staff here are very friendly and attentive to your needs. I'll definitley be back, and can't wait to try them for breakfast.
No complaints here. We were seated outside and the outdoor decor was beautiful. Inside they have lots of different kinds of piñatas hanging. Carne asada burrito was bomb. Cute place
