I stumbled on Urban Plates while on a business trip to La Jolla. I considered more expensive places with reservation requirements . I was able to get in to UP last minute and I was very happy to find thi casual restaurant with great food and no reservation required.
Great healthy selections, the food is always great. You would pay a lot more at another restaurant.
Awesome spot to get food and drink! It’s a very affordable and diverse spot. Also the service is super great. Kye behind the counter was super helpful and understanding. My mother and father always complicate the ordering process but he handled everything with a smile while also offering some great insight. Go when he’s working!
We really enjoyed this place. We ate here for lunch and everyone in our group loved what we got. It was really busy. The food was well prepared and portions were generous. The parking lot was a big hassle and really busy but there are alot of other businesses in the lot. We'd go back there for sure.
Chill evening with casual dining and eats. Food made fresh and reasonably priced. The restaurant charges a small surcharge to pay for employees medical and this is clearly written and I agree. This makes great sense. The food came promptly. We had chicken Cobb salad, build your own triple with chicken, mash potatoes, and mac n cheese. Tomato basil soup and more mash on the side and this was a great meal. We also had a large cowboy cookie which was oatmeal coconut yummy.
Big seating area outside (covered patio) as well some indoors seating . Great ambience. Staff is very friendly and helpful.
Kandice was our server , she is the best 👌
Very impressed with the food at Urban Plates. When I arrived and I saw it was kinda like an order and take your number to a table I was wondering if it would be as good as the pictures. I can assure you it is. Excellent presentation and even better taste. I was very happy. The atmosphere was pleasant; there are several tables and a few benches and outdoor seating decor. It wasn't like most dining places where half the tables are dirty from prior customers; it was very clean and welcoming. I would definitely return. I will likely visit this place again on a future trip to San Diego.
Urban plates is my go to for a healthy and filling meal with an amazing ambiance. This location is too notch with the staff, cleanliness, and ambiance and is easy to get to and park for the La Jolla area. The food is amazing as usual and is generous portions and quality ingredients.
Kye provided excellent service and recommended options when the seafood chowder was not available. He was very patient and customer focused. It made the ordering experience very nice.
Kandice was very helpful at the register giving recommendations and options for our order. My mother had the shrimp with Parmesan butter and enjoyed it very much with a side of brussels sprouts and roasted rainbow carrots. The carrots were perfectly done to an al dente with a sweetness and served warm.
I had the local mixed beet salad and enjoyed it very much. The dressing was perfectly tart with not too much vinegar. the beats were perfectly cooked to be firm. The salad was a very good variety of flavors with arugula, pinenuts, and goat cheese. The salad was large enough to leave me perfectly satisfied for half a dessert.
One of my favorite restaurants. Great selections and great portions. It feels wonderful to eat healthy for a reasonable price!
Greg this is a good spot after you land and arrive to get good food without waiting. Get the crispy chicken tenders (you pick 2 or 3, but 2 is filling unless you're really hungry, btw honey mustard sauce is best for it). Add 2 sides:
Rainbow carrots & golden beets: good
Macaroni & cheese: standard and good
I've also tried:
Beet salad w. goat cheese: literally beets with cheese, decent
Herb Roasted potatoes: not as good as french fries or roasted carrots
