This is a typical Chinese restaurant with a more expansive menu than most with a few standard Vietnamese dishes. They offer a good rendition of my wife's favorite dish, Pepper Steak. The super crispy fried spring rolls are delicious. We are looking forward to other favorites of ours. In an area of San Antonio with many asian options! Kim Tran shines.
This place is AWESOME! I work at FSH and was looking for a good, quick lunch. Pleasantly surprised by finding this restaurant AND excited that I found one that is so good. I had the triple lomein and asked for spicy. It was perfection. Fresh shrimp and fresh vegetables. The egg rolls are out of this world. To add to the great food, the service was outstanding and fast! Will become a regular at this place!
The Oriental Express. Aka Kim Tran escorts you from Vietnam to China in one sitting.
This place has been around for 28 years in this center! Not more than seven minutes from my abode. Incredibly, yesterday was my first visit. This eatery is in the Ft. Sam strip center and the restaurant faces Rittiman Road. Kim Tran is tastefully decorated in a "westernized" Chinese theme and is clean, bright and relaxed.
Lunch specials are available 11:00AM - 2:30PM and priced less than $7.00.
I enjoyed the "Generals Chicken". Smaller than usual pieces of white meat chicken with a slightly atypical sauce. This came with white or fried rice, egg drop or sweet and sour soup and a spring roll.
My wife had the "Shrimp Chow Mien, served with the same extras. The chow mien is a crispy, Hong Kong style. All was good, indeed quite pleasant. Service was prompt, efficient and courteous. My wife and I will be returning to try some of the other selections.
What's to add?, 28 years, 90+% urbanspoon rating, extensive menu offering and budget pricing.
Try them! You will not be disappointed!
Get Your Pan-Asian Fix On here.... Kim Tran is now in its new location, around the corner from it's old location on Corinne. I never got to visit the old location, but I'm a big fan of Vietnamese for lunch, and the menu here is easy and affordable, which I really like. While I feel there is better Vietnamese out there, everything here is fresh and flavorful and service is bright and efficient. The new digs are modern Chinese Restaurant meets western Strip Center and is clean & comfortable. And since it is in a strip center, parking is easy. Though I lean towards the Vietnamese side of the menu it also has all the Chinese favorites you're used to and is a good, clean, affordable Pan-Asian meal that easily caters to almost any taste.
A friend of mine asked me if I’d ever experienced a food that was like “food crack” — instantly addicting. When I said “no,” she invited me to meet her at Kim Tran and try the spring rolls — warning me that we would have to get separate orders of spring rolls, because she couldn’t share hers with anyone. I was intrigued, so off to Kim Tran we went.
Super friendly staff. Huge menu and really good food.
Stopped by for a quick dinner before going to the Botanical Gardens in the area. It was during the week, so it was not crowded at all. The inside was decorated nicely and there were about 25 tables to choose from. Server immediately came to take the drink and appetizer orders. They have both Chinese and Vietnamese cuisine, but I stuck to the Vietnamese menu.
For appetizers, had the Vietnamese spring rolls which was very good. They were extremely crispy and fresh. They were served with the traditional cilantro and lettuce to wrap each piece and dip into the nuoc cham (fish sauce vinaigrette). This was my favorite of the night. For the meals, ordered the House Special Spicy Chicken and the Crab Soup. Both were delicious and equally as good. The Spicy Chicken was spicy, but not overwhelmingly spicy. The Crab soup had a large amount of crab and asparagus in the flavorful broth. Will come back to try some of the other menu items.
10/18/23. My husband and I had lunch here today, and it 2as a very positive and pleasant experience. The ambiance is very nice, from table settings to wall are, to music and TV showing pictures of various menu items. I was impressed that they offer both Chinese and Vietnamese menu options
We each chose a meal from the Chinese lunch menu. I had the sesame chicken and my husband had General Tso's chicken. Our Egg Drop soup was good. My crabmeat Rangoon and my husband's egg roll were both very good. His General Tso's chicken wasn't as spicy as he would prefer. My Sesame Chicken was a little tough, and the sauce was more of a sweet & sour sauce, to my way of thinking. The fried rice we each had was a bit lacking in veggies and flavor. A few culinary tweaks would make this five star. We'll be back to try their Vietnamese menu. Excellent experience.
Yummo! If you’re looking for some delicious Asian food (Chinese & Vietnamese) with the kind of service and atmosphere that you thought had disappeared long ago then you’ve found your place! It’s a warm comfortable walk back in time, when deliciousness and service were more important than nouveau-ness, and their consistency over the many years is amazing. I had the Beef & Scallops with a side of Spring Rolls, both were great, and I can’t wait to return! EAT HERE NOW!!
Not familiar to the area but tried this location based on reviews. It was a great decision very polite staff. The food was flavorful and delicious. Nice quiet dinner, but the food was great that we had to order to go as well.
Definitely a hidden gem! I go here every few months for the spring rolls and sweet and sour chicken. All the appetizers are delicious, and the food is always hot and fresh. The service is also always fast!
Absolutely enjoyed everything about this place. There's something very amazing about a really good Pho!! And I needed it that day!! Terrific price, good food, clean restroom, what more can one want.
I tried the limon grass chicken from the vietnamese side of the lunch menu because it had good reviews. The vietnamese egg rolls are excellent but the chicken was very dry and not what I was expecting. I prefer a meal with vegetables and it's just chicken and rice. I was disappointed.
But... came back a week later and had the chicken with vegetables and vietnamese spring roles and was very satisfied.
Very reasonably priced menu and not a very busy lunch rush and the service is quick.
My FAVORITE restaurant of all time. I drive over on hour just to get it. Same family operating since I was a little girl and before that as well. You must try the Jasmine Tea and fried spring rolls.
It has been the best Chinese food we had in a while. Very fresh, good taste, soso portions(lunch menu), speedy takeout.
